So are there any new solutions to saving 60-day-with-no-download files, or do I just have to kiss mine goodbye?

My "solution" depends on how many files you are talking about and the reason why they haven't been downloaded:
If you have already posted them and they don't get downloaded, maybe the stuff isn't really good? Or maybe your previews are not working anymore. Make a new, nice preview to "advertise" your files, that may help.

If you have used RS for storing purposes and maybe want to post the files later, you can try to download them by yourself (if there are not too many files). Of course it's a bit strange, but maybe better than loosing the files at all (if you have no copies on hdd).
Try a download manager during the RS happy hours. If your download speed isn't fast enough, maybe think of remote uploading them to another hoster. It's much faster and the files get completely downloaded so they will stay for another 60 days.

I know that's not a real solution, but if RS isn't changing the rules this "downloading darwinism" will kill a lot of files. But who said the internet is for preserving the history of porn Wink

we hereby inform you of a modification regarding the file inactivity regulations for Collector's accounts. The guaranteed storage time of a file after the last download (or after the upload, if a file has never been downloaded) will be lowered to 60 days on January 1st, 2010.
Please note that Premium accounts whose files use more than 50 GB of storage are subject to the same storage rules as Collector's accounts.

I find it hard to get my ahead around rapidshare's constantly changing rules.

Wasn't the new policy only applied to (premium) accounts with 25GB or more uploaded before? So now if you're under 50GB of stored files, then the files are safe from deletion? Is that right?

Correct, they doubled the 25 GB limit.
If your account stores less than 50 GB, no files would be deleted due to inactivity (= no dls).

Thanks Monkey D! I'm sure rapidshare never informed me as a premium user of the change. Well it's good news for me at least, as I won't need to worry just yet about safeguarding my less active files.

Yeah, I'm using it for storage, and I have about 450 gigs about half of which doesn't get downloaded. Downloading that much every two months is not the best option for me, but perhaps transferring to another host would work.

Argh.

Edit: I've just started posting a ton of the stuff. Might as well get a few points for it before it gets deleted.Smile I appreciate all the suggestions--keep 'em coming. There must be a way to beat this.

Wow, I'd be even more pissed with rapidshare than I am already if I was in your position Sad Especially as I'm sure RS used to market their service as "online file storage" or some such.

C'est la vie, no? Everything is impermanent.

I'm sounding quite buddhist now. Very Happy

I wonder if there's any buddhist porn? I've seen catholic porn, why no buddhist porn?

RS is infuriating me. something must be done.

and for those who use downloads to sustain your premium accounts and who are unconcerned by our complaints, how are you going to keep up your accounts if most of the day non-premium users can't download? you all should be concerned too.

Checked it several times during the last few weeks.

I get round about 20 points/hour (my premium stores 60 GB at the moment), 1/3 free, 2/3 premium.
Even if there are no free points, the premium will be enough to keep my account self-sustaining (10,000 free or 8,000 premium points per month needed).

I am nearing the 50,000 premium points again and RS blocked all my metart files. This might be their way of saying I can not convert the premium ponts to cash anymore like the last time. It's ok though, it's not like I need the cash, I can find it somewhere else in a much easier way. After months of posting "illegal stuff" (as RS calls it), I have grown complacent about it. If I was told this was illegal the first time I posted, I probably would not continue posting. I know I brought in customers to RS, the way my premium points count behave, and also when they still have that "cash earned from referral system".

One thing I would like to point out, which I probably should post in the other thread (but changed my mind because of the kind of discussion going on there) is that the forum should add more file hosters. Times are a changing (Bob Dylan) and we should change as well.

Best regards guys, tell me if there is something I can help with

Edit: Oh yeah, I knew it was illegal but I made my way around it, LOL

Popular stuff will be reported soon, Met-Art spies/bots are harvesting the whole net for links and will report them.

All OCH (One Click Hoster) will delete copyrighted mterial, if the owner reports it.
Regardless if you use MU, HF, DF, MF or one of the other OCH, all are acting the same.
If the copyright owner tells them to delete the file, they do.
The only other possibility you can do is to host your stuff on a server as backup and remote upload it again (after changing name and checksum of course).
Fine and fast solution, but it's somewhat expensive.

Please, please stop hosting files to Rapidshit. Can never download anything. Why oh why does no one use Megaupload Confused
