Paris Hilton wants to move to gated community
August 18, 2007 01:00am

PARIS Hilton has unveiled her namesake clothing line and talked of moving to a gated community.

The 26-year-old heiress, author, singer, perfume designer, reality-TV star and celebrity debutante met a crowd of fans at the Los Angeles event.

"It's a dream come true to have my own clothing line," she said, wearing a gold sequined mini-dress.

"It's just Paris style: Fun, bright and flashy."

The collection - which Hilton described as "really comfortable" and "really affordable" - includes shoes, T-shirts and jeans.

Hilton said she spent a year submitting and approving designs.

"It's just from my closet to their closets," she said.

"I'm just excited about it and everyone really loves it."

Additional pieces would be released next month, she said.

The heiress also discussed other newsy matters in her life: her pregnant pal, Nicole Richie - "She's going to be a great mom," Hilton said - and the pending sale of her Hollywood Hills home.

"I'm going to miss my house because I love it.

"I really designed it to be (to) my perfect taste," she said.

"But too many people know where I live and I'd rather be in a gated community."

MEL Gibson and Paris Hilton have inspired California lawmakers to propose legislation to protect celebrities caught breaking the law.

Amid concern over the frenzy of entertainment internet blogs and tabloids competing for inside information on Gibson's tirade during a drunk-driving arrest and Hilton's days in jail, state lawmakers have taken steps to clamp down on some forms of chequebook journalism.
A bill presently going through the Legislature will - if passed - make it a crime for law enforcement or court employees to profit by releasing confidential information gathered in criminal investigations or unauthorised photographs of people in custody.
The proposed legislation - which was requested by controversial Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, whose staff dealt with Gibson and Hilton - has outraged the media in the golden state.
Tom Newton, general counsel for the California Newspaper Publishers Association said the measure would whittle away press freedoms for the convenience of celebrities.
"It's the Paris Hilton and Mel Gibson Protection Act," he told The Los Angeles Times.

"Fundamentally, it attempts to regulate news gathering and criminalise it."

But proponents said outlawing celebrity leaks and punishing public employees who take cash from the media was a necessary move to restore faith in the state's justice system following allegations of law enforcement officials providing prohibited information for cash
Assemblywoman Julia Brownley, who introduced the bill at Sheriff Baca's request, said the digital media age and obsession with celebrity news made the law a necessity.

"I felt it was important to help law enforcement to maintain the integrity of the criminal justice system," she said.

"So-called traditional media (have) obtained information and pictures through official channels and via the Public Records Act.

"The new Internet media and others have recently been attempting to circumvent the system by offering law enforcement officials money for information and pictures of celebrities."
Ms Brownley said the bill would not quash acts protected by state whistle-blower laws, including the release of information involving allegations of improper activity by government agencies or officials.
Sheriff Baca's office is investigating the leak of Gibson's police report to LA celebrity news agency blog TMZ after the star's arrest in July last year - which subsequently made headlines around the world.
"When we arrested Mel Gibson we lost control of the information and it ended up on a blog," Baca said. "The question is whether that was done for profit or gratuitously."
The investigation has not found evidence that police documents and information in Gibson case was released to TMZ for financial gain.
TMZ published parts of a deputy's account of the actor-director spouting anti-Semitic remarks as he was being arrested for drink driving in Malibu.
The bill would make it a misdemeanor for those entrusted with such material to receive financial gain in exchange for confidential information obtained in a criminal investigation or to solicit or offer financial compensation for such information.
The ban would include "any unauthorised photograph or video taken inside any secure area of a law enforcement or court facility".
Sheriff Lee Baca said the law was a necessity in an age when a photo of a jailed Paris Hilton could have reportedly fetched up to $US500,000 ($A620,00).

"It was like putting a bounty on her," Baca said.

No photographs have been published of Hilton in her cell during her 23-day sentence at LA's Century Regional Detention Facility Hilton for violating the terms of her probation on alcohol-related charges of reckless driving.
Sheriff Baca said he was concerned about confidential information being sold even if it was not about celebrities.
"We in law enforcement have a tremendous amount of information (and providing it to anyone) for profit is wrong," he said.
Recently allegations of California law enforcement officials releasing confidential information have made headlines in the U.S.
Hollywood private investigator Anthony Pellicano, who was recently charged for illegal wiretapping, alleged that he paid members of law enforcement agencies for confidential information while doing background checks in cases involving celebrities, including comedians Garry Shandling and Kevin Nealon.
In another incident, an Los Angeles Police Department investigation determined last month that one of the agency's officers used a mobile phone to shoot video of the rapper known as The Game as he was held in a jail cell after being arrested.
The video, provided to TMZ, showed the entertainer bragging and waving a wad of money.
TMZ posted the video May 12, the day after police arrested the rapper at his Glendale home on suspicion of making criminal threats.
Investigators said the unidentified officer insisted that he provided the video to TMZ for fun and they had not found any evidence that the officer was compensated.

Paris Hilton's baby buy spree for Nicole Richie
August 27, 2007 12:00am

SHE may not be the bub's best role model but there's no doubting Paris Hilton's taste when it came to shopping for pregnant pal Nicole Richie last weekend.

The jailbird (pictured) splurged a cool $10,000 on romper suits, toys and a Sydney-made Flatout bear for Richie's unborn ****.

The sheepskin koala is already a celebrity favourite with the offspring of Tom Cruise, Sarah-Jessica Parker and Princess Mary.

The spoilt little rich kid also remembered Richie and expectant father, rocker Joel Madden, during the buy-up, buying the bub a slogan T-shirt reading, "Don't you wish your mama was hot like mine" and a Diaper Dude nappy bag for dad.

THREE years ago, as Paris Hilton was about to turn 24, she got a sense of her worth to the nightclub industry in Las Vegas.

Hilton had celebrated her previous three birthdays at Light, the Bellagio hotel-casino nightclub run by the Light Group. But for her 24th, another company swooped in with an offer that trumped the standard private jet to and from Los Angeles, a free stay at a luxury suite, a sumptuous dinner and, of course, free booze.
The hotel heiress would get a big pay cheque - Light was told $US200,000 ($A245,624) - just to party, but it had to be at PURE, a rival nightclub at Caesars Palace run by the PURE Management Group.
Her people let the Light Group know that their former deal was off.
"We said, 'OK, well listen, we're not here to tell you not to make money,"' said a former Light executive, who did not want to be identified talking about industry specifics.
Celebrities often make appearances and walk the red carpet as part of the deal for coming to a nightclub. In return for generating media coverage, they receive all sorts of free goodies, if not cash. For nightclub operators, it has become the standard way of getting their establishments known.
Besides buzz, it generates more patrons, more people willing to pay a $US30 ($A37) cover charge, $US15 ($A18) for a cocktail and $US500 ($A614) for a bottle of name-brand vodka or champagne.
"If you quantify that in terms of the amount of press they got off it, the press they got off it was priceless," the former executive said.
PURE re-created its formula on Friday with the recent opening of LAX and Noir nightclubs at the Luxor hotel-casino, with a grand-opening party hosted by Britney Spears. The company would not say how much it paid her.
PURE managing partner Steve Davidovici said rumours of celebrity payments are exaggerated, and pointed to reports the group paid $US250,000 ($A307,031) to Spears eight months ago to host PURE's New Year's Eve countdown.
"That's a lot of sour g****s from other nightclubs, I guess," Davidovici said, while giving a tour of LAX, a plush club that resembles a chic 1920s opera house. "It's a third of those prices."
Even at that, the appearance fee, which works out to about $US83,000 ($A101,934), was money well spent, he said. The club sold a table next to Spears that night for $US50,000 ($A61,406), and some 3,000 revellers spent $US250 ($A307) on tickets.
"If you look at (the celeb fee) from a monetary standpoint, it's significant, but not if you're taking in half a million dollars," he said.
PURE nightclub alone will generate about $US53 million ($A65.09 million) in revenue this year, while the company plans to gross more than $US120 million ($A147.37 million) from its 12 venues in Las Vegas and the Bahamas, he said.
On a recent Tuesday, PURE nightclub hosted Paris Hilton and her sister, Nicky, as they unveiled new products from Nicky's clothing line. The club later gushed in a release that the sisters "danced their hearts out for the admiring onlookers" as "the two socialites stuck to the main VIP stage."
At LAX, the central focus of the theatre-like layout is a raised dais of booths in front of the dance floor for "super VIPs and celebrities," Davidovici said.
Industry observers say such celebrity-spotting is worth the price of admission.
"It's fun to be famous and rich. That's why people pay to get in and watch," said Lori Levine, the president of Flying Television, a talent-booking firm in New York.
"If you go to a club to see one of the 'It' girls, you take a photo on your phone and you'll have a story to tell for the rest of the summer," she said.
The pay scale for celebrity ranges from free drinks to thousands of dollars.
NBA pro basketball stars command appearance fees from $US5,000 ($A6,140) to $US30,000 ($A36,843) and models can broker $US2,500 ($A3,070) to $US25,000 ($A30,703) "depending on whether she's been in Victoria's Secret or Sports Illustrated's swimsuit issue," said Ryan Schinman, president of the entertainment consulting firm Platinum Rye Entertainment.
In exchange, the stars are obliged to do little more than shine.
"Be (listed) on the invite, pose for some pictures and call it a day," Schinman said.
For Blush's second weekend, it is hosting a "gifting suite" for rockers getting ready to take the stage for the September 9 MTV Video Music Awards. A list of up to 300 invitees includes Fergie, Nelly Furtado, Timbaland, 50 Cent, and U2.
Those who show up the day of the awards can get pampering from a barber and/or masseuse and will walk away with a gift bag stuffed with clothing, spa packages and jewellery.
"It's for them to come in, relax, enjoy themselves," said Blush marketing director Rosine Frangie, adding "there's going to be a small press wall (red carpet) inside."
Other than the requisite photo op, there are few rules for contracted talent appearances.
At Spears' New Year's Eve appearance at PURE, the new mother famously fell asleep around 1 am and was helped out of the club, generating a barrage of scandalous Internet gossip.
Some said it did not matter a whit.
"Clubs don't care about bad behaviour," said Steve Striker, the founder of trip organiser Striker VIP. "It creates media, good hype or bad."
Light Group managing partner Andy Masi says his company does not pay for appearances but will supply jets, suites, dinners and drinks for celebrities on special nights such as club anniversaries - with tabs often running into the thousands of dollars. The group generally makes celebrities pay when they visit on their own.
Masi said red carpets are set up for press when celebrities want to promote their own projects or for anniversary bashes when the club wants to show off who came.
But unscripted celebrity appearances at Light's 10 restaurants and clubs in Las Vegas can do a better job of generating interest, he said.
"Afterward, the buzz gets out. Someone you know, Leonardo DiCaprio, seen eating in STACK or Tobey Maguire seen at FIX restaurant or Kevin Connolly hanging out at Jet (nightclub)," he said. "That stuff comes out afterward, but we're not crafting the entire night and spending money to create that. It's just happening naturally."
Both Light and PURE say building relationships with the stars and giving them great service is key to getting them to return. Both approaches appear to be working.
Light is set to make from $US90 million ($A110.53 million) to $US120 million ($A147.37 million) in revenue this year, and is set to open four new venues and manage a hotel-condo tower in the new CityCentre, Masi said.
Davidovici said it takes more than just buzz to keep venues making money, though.
"You couldn't get 5,000 people three nights a week for three years to come if you didn't run a real establishment, if our doormen were rude to people and the cocktail waitresses weren't friendly," he said.
"It's more about the regular customer than the celebrity, because that person is spending money."

Paris Hilton tipped to star in Prisoner musical
September 04, 2007 07:44am

screenshot

PARIS Hilton is set to go back to prison - for a West End musical.

The hotel heiress, who recently served 23 days in jail for driving with a suspended licence, is to appear in a London stage version of cult Australian TV show Prisoner: Cell Block H.
A source said: "Everyone is very excited.
"There was a real buzz around the show when we thought we would get some well-known Australian soap actors but Paris is a major coup.
"The casting agents never thought she'd be interested, but before meeting with the directors she researched the show by watching DVDs of the original series.
"She absolutely loved it and thought it was brilliantly camp."
Paris, who is said to have been keen to tread the boards in the West End for some time, is to star as an inmate in the production set in a women-only prison.
It is believed her character will be involved in a lesbian romp.
The source added: "Paris is keen to stretch herself as an actress so she's happy to kiss another girl for the audience and actually thinks it'll be fun to play a lesbian.
"She'll also get to stretch her vocal chords and she loves that."
If Paris does appear in the West End it will be just the latest addition to her growing list of talents.
She has previously starred in a number of films, including House of Wax, released a signature perfume, recorded a pop album, designed her own clothing range, appeared in an adult film and starred in her own reality TV show The Simple Life.

Dumb decade and its mascot is Paris

screenshot screenshot

PARIS HILTON grabbed so much media attention last week I thought she must have done something interesting while I wasn't paying attention. There were, of course, many possibilities. Maybe she stunned the press by making a joke. Perhaps one of the paparazzi pack called out: "Why did your parents name you after a hotel, Paris?" And Paris stopped mid-sashay, turned her pale pout towards the questioner and said: "I know my parents, like, named me after a hotel. But I'm so, like, lucky. They nearly called me The Ritz."
Maybe Paris invented a new fashion, a pair of sunglasses so big they can be used as riot shields in an emergency. Or maybe her pet Chihuahua, Tinkerbelle, had to go into dog rehab. There must be substance abuse clinics for dogs in LA. They've got everything else: dog spas, dog psychologists and dog cook books including my favourite Bone Appetit, Gourmet Cooking for Dogs. So I could just picture little Tinkerbelle going into The Betty Four-leg Clinic to be treated for, say, a shoe sniffing addiction. All you have to do is take one look at Tinkerbelle with those big googly-eyes and that snappy, twitchy nature and you know she's on something!

Then I thought I was just being a cynical journo. Maybe Paris has made a real contribution to society. What could that be? Maybe she's taken up a cause. I can just see her wearing the little t-shirt with the words "Stop, like, bad stuff" or "Give Tibet back to the Tibets". Or, maybe, she's written a book. Once again there are many possibilities. Porn Home Video Etiquette for Beginners, How to become an Heiress for Dummies (I mean, Duh! You've got to so, like, pick the right parents!) and Waxing Lyrical: The Brazilian Song Book (Oh! Ah! EEEEEEEh!)

Or perhaps Paris has embraced religion and took up Gospel Aerobics or Pontius Pilot Pilates. I'm not being funny. Classes like this actually exist in LA.

When I finally caught up with the cause of the recent Paris Hilton media frenzy, I discovered nothing much had happened at all. Paris had just been stupid again. She'd been caught drink driving again and threatened with jail again. But, in some strange way, I admire Paris because she's managed to, like, totally represent this decade. If the '80s were the "Greed is Good" decade, then this, the first decade of the millennium, is the decade of "Dumb is Good". We listen to dumb songs.

BBC listeners just voted a Des'ree song with the lines: "I don't want to see a ghost/It's the sight I fear the most/I'd rather have a piece of toast" as having the dumbest lyrics.

We wear dumb t-shirts. Once t-shirts were ironic and political. Now you're likely to see the Kama Sutra for Dogs. We watch dumb TV. It's called reality TV, which is rather frightening because it mostly involves dumb people saying dumb things to other dumb people. We watch dumb singing shows and dumb dancing shows. I say this because they seem to involve people who can't sing or dance. We read dumb books. Not all books are dumb, but they're not too bright either. In the best-selling book line-up in Australia last year, among the Harry Potters and Dan Browns, was Spotless and The CSIRO Total Wellbeing Diet. So we're not exactly worried about developing our brain power. We're concerned about removing stains and the size of our butts. We even have dumb university degrees now. Loony uni I call it. Today in Australia you can get a degree in surfing.

So I rest my case. This is the dumb decade. We're not pondering on the meaning of life. The big question this decade is: What will Paris Hilton wear in jail?

Paris Hilton Plans Trip to Rwanda
"There's so much need in that area," the socialite says of her November destination
Posted Wednesday, Sep. 26, 2007
By Sara Hammel

It's not the typical sort of hot spot she's used to, but Paris Hilton says that she's planning to hit the road to Rwanda.
Apparently making good on her post-jail promise to help others, the socialite, 26, tells E! Online about her African ambitions, "I'll be going in November, after I get back from filming my movie. There's so much need in that area, and I feel like if I go, it will bring more attention to what people can do to help."

Though a trouble spot of notorious proportions — an infamous 1994 genocide in Rwanda claimed about a million lives (in a nation of 9 million) — the country's multitude of problems doesn't seem to worry Hilton, who vows to pay calls upon a variety of beleaguered regions.

"I want to visit more countries where poverty and ****ren's issues are a big concern," she says. "I know there's a lot of good I can do just by getting involved and bringing attention to these issues."

Hilton reportedly will visit Rwanda at the invitation of Scott Lazerson, whose year-old Playing for Good charity assists celebrities and high-profile business personalities in getting involved with organizations that benefit those in need.

Hilton's Rwanda trip will also cap a busy September, during which she's been in Toronto filming her upcoming movie Repo! The Genetic Opera, partying at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas and hitting a slew of Emmy parties in Los Angeles.

The unattached Hilton, who recently has been seen with Entourage star Adrian Grenier, insists that the actor is not a romantic interest.

All this week she's been spotted with Alex Vaggo, a model-esque Swede.

Paris dummy spit on Letterman
By Dora Tsavdaridis
October 01, 2007 12:00am

screenshot

PARIS Hilton has had an on air dummy spit while being interviewed by talk show host, David Letterman.

The party girl was visibly unimpressed with Letterman's line of questioning, especially when he refused to back down.
It seems Paris wasn't in the mood to talk about her time in jail and was only prepared to answer questions about her business ventures.
"I'm not here to talk about that, I'm here to talk about my clothes line and perfume," Paris said.
But that didn't deter a quick-witted Letterman, whose reply turned the corners of Paris' mouth down even further.
"Well that's where me and you are different, it's all I want to talk about," Letterman replied.
Paris continued to sink further and further into her chair and at one point, attempted to make a stand.
"You're making me really sad ... you're hurting my feelings," Paris pouted.

Paris: Rwanda Trip Is Next Year
Hilton says she remains committed to making a difference in Africa
Posted Monday, Oct. 29, 2007

By Tim Nudd

Paris Hilton says her postponed trip to Rwanda will take place in 2008, and she is still intent on bringing the suffering of other cultures to the attention of a younger generation.
"We were supposed to be going in November, but then the charity is doing restructuring and figuring things out," Hilton tells Extra. "It's going to be for next year."

The former Simple Life star, 26, said her philanthropy will not be dimished by the temporary setback.

"I want to travel the world," she says. "I feel like there's a lot I can do, and a lot I can do to help. I know [Rwanda] went through a lot of traumatic experiences, and I feel like if I go there, I can help save some people's lives."

The African nation was the scene of genocide in 1994.

Hilton sees her role as a motivational one for a younger generation not well versed in charity work.

"I lot of people do help, but they may be in the older generation," she says. "I want **** to know, even if you're 15 or 16 years old, you can do something."

Paris Hilton throws tantrum in Canadian porn store
October 30, 2007 02:00pm

screenshot

PARIS Hilton has allegedly gone ballistic at a Toronto adult store for promoting her infamous porn tape, threatening to sue them and call the police.

After walking past the store, the socialite heiress apparently stormed in and demanded the manager take down posters outside - they were promoting her infamous sex tape.

The best part? It was all captured on the store's surveillance tapes.

According to Canadian TV station CTV, the harassed heiress was overhead saying: "You guys can't use my image in a porn store. I'm going to call my lawyer and sue the (expletive) out of this place. I really want them down because they're mean and this is not right. I'm really serious, this is disgusting. And I want the other ones too or I'm calling the (expletive) cops."

Adding to the surreal nature of the billionaire's tantrum was the fact Hilton was allegedly dressed up for Halloween in a skeleton costume.

Shortly after leaving the store, a man claiming to be Hilton's manager returned and told the staff to keep the incident quiet, threatening a lawsuit for defamation of character if the tape of Hilton's meltdown were to be leaked.

Of course, the porn proprietors quickly called up every media outlet they could and are now negotiating for rights to the footage with two U.S. tabloid shows.

Offers are said to have reached $50,000.
