‘I used to act dumb’: Paris

Socialite Paris Hilton is making good on her prison-cell promise to become a better person.
The 27-year-old has made an “extremely generous” donation to help fund the construction of a new cancer centre at the C.h.i.l.d.r.e.n.'s Hospital Los Angeles, hospital officials said.
They did not specify the amount.
“The c.h.i.l.d.r.e.n I have met through my involvement with C.h.i.l.d.r.e.n's Hospital have truly touched my heart,” Hilton said in a statement.
“I am proud to make a donation and lend my name to the fundraising effort to help c.h.i.l.d.r.e.n who are facing terribly serious illnesses.”
The new C.h.i.l.d.r.e.n's Centre for Cancer and Blood Diseases is expected to open in 2010.
After spending about three weeks in jail last year for violating probation on alcohol-related driving charges, Hilton said the experience had **** her to take a long look at her life.
In an interview from jail, she told veteran interviewer Barbera Walters that fans could expect to see a person who'd been changed by her brush with the law.
She'd found God in jail, Paris said, and a sense that her life should be more purposeful.
“I used to act dumb. It was an act. I am 26 years old, and that act is no longer cute,” she said.
“It is not who I am, nor do I want to be that person for the young girls who looked up to me.
“I know now that I can make a difference, that I have the power to do that. I have been thinking that I want to do different things when I am out of here. I have become much more spiritual. God has given me this new chance.”
