Wailing Paris Hilton ordered back to jail
Saturday June 9, 09:04 AM

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A sobbing Paris Hilton was sent back to jail on Friday as a judge overturned a sheriff department's decision to place the heiress under house arrest after just three days behind bars.
The slender 26-year-old celebrity trembled and cried quietly throughout the hearing and then broke into loud sobs when the judge ordered her back behind bars. "Mom, Mom. It's not right," she shrieked as she was led out of the courtroom. Her mother, Kathy Hilton, sobbed.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer ordered Hilton to complete her 45-day sentence in jail rather than at home, marking a stunning turn of fortune for the multimillionaire socialite who has become a symbol of the excess of America's celebrity culture.

But it remained unclear how long the star of the television reality show "The Simple Life" would spend in jail since she will be given time off for good behavior.

Sheriff Lee Baca, who runs the county detention facilities, let Hilton out of jail on Thursday for unspecified medical reasons and ordered her confined to her lavish house in Hollywood Hills with an electronic monitoring device attached to her ankle.

At that point she had served just three full days of what was expected to be a 23-day stint in jail. She had been on probation for reckless driving when she was caught driving her Bentley with a suspended license.

The hearing was delayed two hours because of confusion over whether Hilton would testify by video from her Hollywood Hills home, or in person.

Finally, she was handcuffed and placed weeping into a sheriff's car for the trip to court and later driven back to jail, trailed by news helicopters.

HEALTH ISSUES

The sheriff's department did not say what health issues led to Hilton's shift to house arrest.

Judge Sauer said in court on Friday that he was contacted by a sheriff's official on Wednesday and told a psychiatrist who examined Hilton in jail reported a serious problem.

But Sauer did not elaborate and said the sheriff's department never gave him any documentation of Hilton's condition. "I at no time condoned the action of the sheriff," Sauer said from the bench.

The sheriff's decision sparked national outrage and accusations of preferential treatment for a celebrity, though Hilton's original sentence was considered by many to be excessive.

The City Attorney's Office, which prosecuted Hilton, said Sheriff Baca overstepped his authority and should be held in contempt of court for violating the judge's sentencing order, which expressly prohibited electronic monitoring.

Assistant City Attorney Dan Jeffries said that if Baca felt Hilton needed to be released on medical grounds, he should have sought a court hearing to review the matter.

Attorneys for the sheriff's department argued that Baca has the discretion to effectively modify a sentence under his authority as chief administrator of the jail system.

Hilton's lawyer, Richard Hutton, asked the judge to allow Hilton to return to house arrest while such a hearing was convened, but the judge refused.

And at the end of an hour-long hearing, he declared, "The defendant is remanded to the L.A. County jail to serve the balance of her 45-day sentence. The order is final."

Celebrity Web site TMZ.com said Hilton's lawyer was planning to appeal her sentence. TMZ also reported that she would probably spend the weekend in a medical facility at a city jail. Officials could not confirm that.

Paris Hilton ordered to LA jail's medical wing
Saturday June 9, 11:48 AM

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - A sobbing Paris Hilton was ordered back to jail on Friday as a judge overruled a sheriff's decision to place the hotel heiress under house arrest for psychological problems after she spent three days behind bars.
The slender 26-year-old celebrity trembled and cried quietly throughout the hearing, then broke into loud sobs when the judge ordered her back into custody.

"Mom, Mom. It's not right," she wailed as she was led out of the courtroom. Her mother, Kathy Hilton, also sobbed.

But rather than return immediately to the sprawling women's detention center where she began serving an expected three-week term for violating probation in a drunken-driving case, Hilton was taken to the medical wing of a Los Angeles jail.

Sheriff Lee Baca said she will be treated there for the unspecified psychological problems that had led him to "reassign" Hilton on Thursday to home confinement with an electronic monitoring device on her ankle.

The sheriff's decision sparked national outrage and accusations of preferential treatment for a celebrity, though Hilton's original 45-day sentence was considered by many to be excessive.

"Her medical condition was deteriorating and we didn't know how to fix it," Baca, who oversees the county's jail system, said at a news conference defending his move to place Hilton under house arrest.

"We have her in the correctional treatment center -- that is a special wing. I am not going to say exactly what her mental problem is," he added.

Hilton was returned to custody after Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michael Sauer ordered her to complete her sentence in jail, rejecting arguments that Baca had the discretion to "reassign" inmates to house arrest for health reasons without court review.

SYMBOL OF CELEBRITY CULTURE EXCESS

The ruling marked a stunning turn of fortune for the multimillionaire socialite who has become a symbol of privilege and the excesses of America's celebrity culture.

"Let's not make a judicial or criminal justice football out of this woman," Baca said.

Baca said Hilton was scheduled to serve another 18 days behind bars under a standard credit applied against her term for time served on good behavior.

The star of the television reality show "The Simple Life" was sentenced to jail last month for violating probation in a drunken-driving case by driving on a suspended license.

The exact nature of Hilton's condition remained a mystery. Baca said she had not been taking prescribed medication for a psychological problem but declined to elaborate.

The sheriff denied Hilton was given preferential treatment, saying that under an early release program established to ease overcrowded jails she was actually serving more time than other inmates in the same low-level category.

"Under our early release program, she would not have served any time in our jail, or would have been directly put on our home electronic monitoring system," he said. "So the special treatment, in a sense, appears to be ... more time in jail."

Friday's court hearing was delayed two hours due to confusion over whether Hilton would testify by video from her Hollywood Hills home, or in person. Finally, she was handcuffed and placed weeping into a sheriff's car for the trip to court wearing drab gray sweatpants and no make-up.

Judge Sauer said the sheriff's department never gave him any documentation of Hilton's condition. "I at no time condoned the action of the sheriff," Sauer said from the bench.

The City Attorney's Office said Baca overstepped his authority and should be held in contempt of court for violating the judge's sentencing order, which prohibited house arrest or work release.

Celebrity Web site TMZ.com said Hilton's lawyer was planning to appeal her sentence.

Paris Hilton says it's tough, but will do her time
Monday June 11, 02:16 AM

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Celebrity socialite Paris Hilton, who was dragged sobbing back to jail, says being in prison is the hardest thing she has ever done, but she will not appeal her sentence, US media reported Sunday.

"Today, I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," Hilton said in a statement, reported by the Los Angeles Times.

"Being in jail is by far the hardest thing I have ever done," said the 26-year-old heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune who was sentenced to 45 days in jail in May for violating her probation and driving on an suspended license.

Her early release on Thursday, after just three days in jail, triggered a wave of outrage and an angry judge demanded she be brought back to court on Friday, when he ruled she had to go back to prison.

Images of a disheveled, distraught Hilton, far from the cool, glamorous blonde seen gracing catwalks and red-carpet soirees, were seen around the world as she was handcuffed by police and brought before Judge Michael Sauer.

"During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think, and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience," Hilton said in her statement.

Sheriff Lee Baca, had on Thursday released Hilton tagged with an electronic ankle bracelet and ordered her to serve out her sentence under house arrest for unspecified "medical reasons."

Stunned prosecutors filed a petition in protest and on Friday Sauer ordered Hilton back to jail to serve out her sentence, which was expected to run 23 days with time off for good behavior.

Hilton apparently broke down, wailing "Mom, Mom, Mom," as Sauer ordered her back to prison saying "the order is final and forthwith."

On Saturday, Hilton was in a Los Angeles jail hospital room, despondent and medicated with a psychotropic drug, gossip site TMZ.com reported.

Her psychiatrist spent two hours Saturday with the detainee, whom sources said had been crying, had not eaten, and was sullen and withdrawn, TMZ said.

But in her statement, Hilton thanked her fans for their messages of support which she said she had been reading in her cell, and took a swipe at Friday's relentless media coverage of the unfolding drama.

"I would hope going forward that the public and the media will focus on more important things, like the men and women serving our country in Iraq and other places around the world."

Paris Hilton won't appeal, calls for end to media frenzy
Monday June 11, 07:45 AM

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Paris Hilton said she will not appeal a judge's decision sending her back to jail and called for an end to the media feeding frenzy sparked by her sentence.

Hilton, who was reportedly held in a Los Angeles prison hospital unit on Sunday under heavy medication, was dragged sobbing from court on Friday after being ordered to serve out the remainder of her 45-day jail term.

The 26-year-old heiress to the Hilton hotel fortune was released for unspecified medical reasons last week after serving just three days behind bars, provoking a public outcry amid allegations of favoritism.

Though distraught at the decision to return her to prison, Hilton said in a statement released through her lawyers on Saturday that she would not appeal.

"I told my attorneys not to appeal the judge's decision," Hilton said, describing being in jail as "by far the hardest thing I have ever done."

Hilton, who according to sources cited by gossip site TMZ.com was despondent and medicated with a psychotropic drug, said she was using her jail time to reflect on her fate.

"During the past several days, I have had a lot of time to think, and I believe that I am learning and growing from this experience," she said.

An army of photographers, reporters and television news crews were camped outside Hilton's home on Friday as police arrived to take her away in handcuffs for the court hearing that ended with her being sent back to jail.

At least one photographer was hit by the convoy of police vehicles as it crawled through a scrum of media, footage of which evoked memories of OJ Simpson's slow-speed chase along a Los Angeles freeway in 1994.

Hilton, who throughout her career has rarely shunned the media spotlight, said in her statement she was stunned by the blanket coverage of her case.

"I was shocked to see all of the attention devoted to the amount of time I would spend in jail for what I had done -- by the media, public and city officials," she said.

"I would hope going forward that the public and the media will focus on more important things like the men and women serving our country in Iraq and other places around the world."

Hilton was jailed in May for violating the terms of her probation following a conviction for alcohol-related reckless driving.

The bottle-blonde pop-culture icon was twice caught driving on a suspended license. She was stopped in January by California Highway Patrol officers and told that she was not allowed to be driving.

On that occasion, Hilton signed a statement acknowledging that she was not supposed to drive, and she was let off with an informal warning.

But just over a month later she was hauled over again in Hollywood when spotted driving her 190,000-dollar Bentley Continental GTC at night with the headlights off.

At Hilton's court hearing last month, Judge Michael Sauer ruled she had violated her probation and sent her to jail, specifically ruling that she not be allowed to serve out her sentence under house arrest.

However Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca last Thursday released Hilton tagged with an electronic ankle bracelet, ordering her to serve out the remainder of her sentence at home for "medical reasons."

Stunned prosecutors filed a petition in protest and on Friday Sauer ordered Hilton back to jail, which is expected to run 23 days with time off for good behavior.

Hilton apparently broke down, wailing "Mom, Mom, Mom," as Sauer ordered her back to prison saying "the order is final and forthwith."

Clooney slams Paris Hilton

Prisoner, Paris Hilton has been slammed by George Clooney. The 46-year-old Oscar winner announced, "You can only get so far without any discernible talent. Then you either work or use cheap publicity tricks to keep the public's attention."

Paris has had the media in a frenzy over her jail sentence, short-lived release and subsequent re-incarceration. When she was defending her drink-driving arrests, Paris had claimed that police were harder on her because she is famous.

However, Clooney - who is currently promoting the number one US box office hit Ocean's Thirteen - does not feel any sympathy. He recently said, "You are in no position to complain if, like Paris, you are on the receiving end of bad publicity."

ADD afflicts Paris
Jun 14 09:57am

screenshot

So why did Paris suffer in the first few days of her incarceration?

It appears that Paris Hilton suffers from extreme Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and claustrophobia, and these conditions were possibly the reason as to why Sheriff Lee Baca's decision to release her early to home detention.

It also seems that Hilton was taking the prescribed medication of Adderall for her ADD, and it was possible that she was not receiving her pills at the Lynwood Correctional Facility.

As such, Paris was apparently suffering from severe panic attacks in her small jail cell - so much so that, at times, she could not push the panic button in her cell.

Now housed at the infamous downtown Los Angeles penitentiary known as the Twin Towers, Paris is said to depressed but no longer in tears, and losing weight but no longer not eating.

Armed with a pencil and a pad of paper she's spending her time writing down her thoughts, and taking visits from her family and friends.

Can we expect a 'Paris Hilton: Prison Diaries' to be released?

Paris Hilton back in jail
From correspondents in Los Angeles

JAILED socialite Paris Hilton was transferred from a medical ward to a detention centre to serve the rest of her sentence for violating probation in a drunken-driving case, officials said today.
Hilton, 26, was taken from the Twin Towers jail in downtown Los Angeles to the Century Regional Detention Center in the suburb of Lynwood on Wednesday night.

Celebrity news site TMZ.com said Hilton was now in the medical wing at the detention centre.

"To describe Paris as emotionally upset would be an understatement," it quoted a law enforcement source connected with the facility as saying.

The Sheriff's Department, which runs the jail system, declined to comment ahead of a news conference scheduled for 8am (local time). Hilton's spokesman was not immediately available for comment.

Hilton had begun her 45-day sentence at the detention centre on June 3, but was expected to serve only half of that time under a formula designed to relieve jail overcrowding.

In reality, she was released just three days later by the Sheriff's Department because of unspecified psychological problems and ordered to remain under house arrest for 40 days.

The early release drew fire from prosecutors and court officials, and sparked a fierce public debate about celebrity justice.

The day after Hilton was put under house arrest, the judge who had sentenced her to jail ordered her back behind bars. That angered Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca, who said Hilton was being turned into a "criminal justice football."

The tearful hotels heiress was then taken to the Twin Towers jail for continued medical evaluation.

i think its sooo unfair that the hilton guest dont wait to visit

granted, they really cant stand in line because of the paparazzi and security issues, but they should at least wait in a holding room and get to visit after the person whom they otherwise would be standing behind gets to the front of the line

Parisexposed.com oversight reveals credit card details.

Web users who signed up to a Paris Hilton exposé website may be in trouble after poor web design left their credit card information exposed.

Parisexposed.com was set up by internet entrepreneur Bardia Persa after he bought a container of Hilton's personal possessions at an auction. The container came up for sale after the heiress forgot to pay a US$208 storage bill.

The site claims to include Hilton memorabilia such as videos of her having sex, allegedly snorting cocaine off a man's chest and allegedly making racist and homophobic remarks.

Persa also claims to have more mundane items like ****hood photos and prescriptions for herpes medication. Online access is being sold for US$19.97 a month.

But an investigation by The Smoking Gun website said that by changing a few characters on the web page URL it was possible to see the subscriber's name, email address, password, phone number, mailing address and credit card number.

The fault was repaired after the investigators sent a message to the site's owner.

Listed among the 750 subscribers were viewers from 28 countries around the world, including the son of a famous US television news personality.

The website was taken down by a court order in February but was back up in defiance of the ruling after Hilton was jailed for driving offences.

Nicky feels for Paris
June 18, 2007 12:00am

IMPRISONED hotel heiress Paris Hilton's mother Kathy says that jail visits have sent her younger daughter, Nicky, into hysterics.

She admitted that her family had been finding the jail visits terrible.

"It's tough. It is," she said. "It's just one hour a week: 30 minutes on Sunday and 30 minutes on Tuesday. We talk through glass.

"And this one left in hysterics," she said, pointing to Nicky.

"Nicky tried to keep the brave face but -- I never see Nicky cry."

Nicky described her visit to the Century Regional Detention Centre, in Lynwood, Los Angeles, yesterday as surreal.

"It's sad. It's like right out of the movies. The glass partition, the orange jumpsuit. Everything," she said.

She said the misconception that Paris was in jail for driving under the influence annoyed her.

"What's annoying is all these people are going on television saying that she was drinking and driving," said Nicky.

"She's not in jail for DUI. That's a big misconception. She's in jail for driving on a suspended licence."

Kathy repeated Paris's statement that she would not file an appeal against her sentence, which could end as early as June 25.

"There are no appeals, as Paris said. But the point is that I hope this will shine a light on everybody (in those jails). That's the positive."

Paris Hilton adjusted and doing better in jail - Parents
19th June 2007, 12:45 WST

Paris Hilton is settling into her cell at an all-women's jail and is doing better, her parents said after a weekend visit.

They said the 26-year-old socialite was passing the time at the Century Regional Detention Centre in Lynwood reading letters from fans, relatives and friends and reflecting on her life.

"Basically just reading and just sitting there thinking ... what she wants to do with her life and the changes that she wants to make," Kathy Hilton told Fox News Channel's Greta Van Susteren today.

"She's never been alone so this is, as she calls it, a real time out," her mother said of yesterday's visit, where Hilton talked to her parents from behind a glass partition.

Hilton's father, Rick, said she was doing "much better" and gave him a handmade Father's Day card.

"It was kind of cute," he said.

"She had written a card for me and in front of it was a cartoon and it showed me holding her hand against the glass with her on the other side. Quite touching."

Rick Hilton also denied rumours that his father had donated money to Los Angeles Sheriff Lee Baca to garner favours for his daughter.

He said the donation was made 1 1/2 years ago, and it was just $US1,000. ($A1,190.)

"A lot of business people in LA I'm sure also donate to the sheriff," he said.

Hilton, whose unidentified psychological problems prompted Baca to release her from jail until a judge ordered her back behind bars, spent nearly a week in a medical unit in a downtown jail.

She was transferred to the Lynwood jail last week after her condition stabilised, authorities said.

Hilton is expected to be released on June 25, when she will have served about 23 days of a 45-day sentence.

"She sees the light at the end of the tunnel," Rick Hilton said.

Paris puts pen to paper in prison
Jun 21 11:22am

Paris Hilton has composed a letter to a fan from within her prison jail cell.

After receiving a letter of support, Hilton wrote back to the fan...and cable television channel E! got their hands on the reply!

It reads, in part: "I read your letter and just wanted to thank you for your kind words of love and support. The fact that you took time out of your day to write me truly means the world. Especially at such a difficult and scary time in my life.

"But I am being strong and trying to make the best out of the situation," Hilton continued. "And the letters I'm receiving really do put a smile on my face as I sit here in my cell, sad and alone. Again, thank you so much and may God bless you and your family."

With Paris staring at the walls, staring at the ceiling according to her mother and father, Paris Hilton seems to be having a tough time since having her time in jail extended after being released to serve her time via home detention, then being sent back by sentencing Judge Michael T. Sauer.

It also seems that Paris had previous dalliances with Jack Osbourne, son of Sharon and Ozzy and co-star in 'The Osbourne Family' reality show.

Chatting to a tablody prior to Ozzy's Wembley Arena performance, Sharon and Ozzy let it slip that son Jack may have had a romantic encounter with the hotel heiress

"Paris was always hanging around our house," Ozzy said. "I'm not sure if she was a friend of KELLY or AMY -- which one was it, Sharon?"

Sharon stuttered and stammered, then explained that "She was Jack's, erm, friend." Ozzy's looked more than a little shocked, then mugged "He didn't shag her, did he? Well done, my son!"
