I hear you. The Sox have failed to pull away early this year. Whether it is a tired Beckett, an injured Dice-K, the crap-shoot that is Wakefield, Papelbon having mechanical problems, injuries to Manny and Ortiz, the nut-case that Youkilis is turning into, or the horrible Japan trip that sucked the life out of the team for a few weeks, they
should be up at least 10 games by now. But they tend to go into funks that become losing streaks, erasing any gains they make while on hot streaks. They are simply too inconsistent right now, and the Yankees are close enough to smell blood in the water.
It will be interesting to see how the 4 games at the end of next week turn out. I think a split in NY would get us Sox fans crowing again, but a series win by the Yankees would conjure up a lot of bad memories. I'm also interested to see how Joba Fett / Joba Chambermaid (I can't decide which I like better
) will fare against a good lineup of hitters who have seen him before.
May the best team win, and hopefully no injuries to either team.
It is, of course, still very early. My hopes are that all the starting pitcher injuries will translate into extra rest and more production in October, whereas the Yankees are riding AARP arms that might be expected to tire by the end of the season...
