Here is the difference b/w Yankees fans and Red Sox fans. If the shoe were on the other foot, Red Sox fans would be horribly embarassed and would completely disown such a crazed lunatic.

Yet at this very moment you can be sure that in several bars in the Bronx there are cheers and toasts being offered up to this "woman" (I use the term lightly since she shows no signs of being an actual human being).

Who knows why Yankees fans are such morons? I guess it must have something to do with the lack of success as a franchise, and the fact that a whole generation of little New Yorkers are growing up not knowing what it is like to have the Spankees win anything. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Anyway, I thought I would start a thread that was sure to fuel a lot of hatred and animosity and perhaps set a record for flaming. Very Happy

Amigo, you may want to re-think your words and wording. I'm trying to be constructive here, by the way. Exclamation If you don't care, you don't care, fine. But it is hard to tell if you're joking or not. Some of my good friends in here and in RL are Yankees fans ... do you realize how you've insulted them? Anyway ...

1. The crowd here at FP is very international, and most (but not all) non-Americans will have no idea what you're talking about. Baseball is in fact my favorite sport (and yes I'm American), but I also love the multi-cultural and international flavour of this forum.

2. I'm not a Yankees fan - I'm a National League guy, actually - but I do know that "recently" they were World Champions in 1996, 1998, 1999, & 2000, they won the American League Pennant in 2001 and 2003 after that, and after that they've still won the AL Eastern Division in 2004, 2005, and 2006 (2002, also). They've made the Playoffs every year since the strike-shortened year of 1994 -- that's the last 13 years in a row, which is pretty freakin' amazing given that none of the other 31 teams in the Major Leagues have a streak longer than "1". Cool Your "lack of success as a franchise" comment was silly, and your "generational" statement was even more ridiculous. Were you joking? Couldn't tell. Oh, and respect where respect is due, to a very successful franchise.

3. The actions of one drunk and disturbed woman in New Hampshire in no way reflect anything whatsoever about the New York Yankee organization, or their fans in general. Your "assumption" about bars and fans anywhere is again, quite ridiculous. Sorry dude.

4. If this thread ends up "fueling lots of hatred and animosity and sets a record for flaming", you'll be lucky to not get a warning if you participate. Of course, if you don't participate than you're just a flame-starter, which is only one rung above the white stuff that accumulates around your mouth when you're really thirsty (oh god, I just referenced Con Air, I need another drink, stat).

But really, from my experience here at FP, why waste time arguing and being negative? There are like "Terabytes" (hah) of awesome pRon just waiting to be found. Very Happy But whatever, that's all I'll say ... carry on.

OMG ramblin'man, calm down. Rolling Eyes Of course it was mostly tongue-in-cheek. Do you really think there are lifelong Red Sox fans who don't know that the Yankees have won a couple of World Series here and there??? Really?

But that's the entire point - they have been taunting us since the mid-1930's about how long it had been since we had won. So now that we are on a little roll and they can't get out of their own way, we are enjoying the karmic payback. As the expression goes, Yanks fans, don't dish it out if you can't take it. We've been taking up the rear for the better part of a century, so now it is your turn to suck it up, smile, and congratulate us on our success.

Which you are welcome to predict is fleeting. We can take it. Very Happy

And of course I am joking about the flaming wars. I expect a polite discourse from any and all posters (which means that bigpaulie should probably not post here Wink). And Euros and non-baseball fans are not required to post here. They can have all the threads they want (Allez Lohème, Allez!). But we were clogging up an actual porn thread with RS/Y smack talk, so I thought it would be better to move it elsewhere and not hijack that poor guy's thread any more.

And finally, when that news story broke, it was like a politcal scandal where they announce that "Up next, Senator such-and-such from East Bumfuck was arrested today for bribery and yada yada yada," and you are desperately waiting until they get back from the commercial to find out if you are going to be elated or embarassed depending on which party they represent. When this story broke and they said it was the result of a RS/Y argument, I had a pit in my stomach, terrified that it might have been a RS fan. I shouldn't have been worried. I mean, why would a RS fan be homicidal when we are winning after an 86 year drought? Confused

OK, so to stir the pot a little...

I can't remember where I heard this (movie like Fever Pitch maybe?), but supposedly in the late 70's when the Yanks were horrible they set an alltime low attendence record with only 17 fans at a game in Yankee Stadium?

So there is yet another reason that the Yankees SUCK: RS fans persevered through generations of humiliating defeat but always supported the team. Yankees fans are all (except those 17 people) bandwagon jumpers. Laughing

I'm a "Euro", so what's your beef... I'm probably a better ballplayer then you are Razz .

I'm not a yankee fan, but I'm starting to dislike the "blue pants" after reading that load of crap.

Yeah CC, I saw that. Laughing Didn't bother commenting because our good friend Slade (the Ol' Angry Bear) doesn't show his snout here much in the GC section. In fact he hasn't been around in over a week, hmmmm. Anyway good to see you back again you funky fresh fowl. Very Happy

To the original poster: I'm totally calm dude, no worries. Its just that you sound like an whinging 11-year-old boy posting on a Red Sox blog ... and I thought you were better than that (from other posts I've seen) ... and this wonderful forum is better than that. By all means, carry on, I'm totally in favor of free speech. Wink

1. crazy_chicken - I have no beef (uh, wait a minute...); ramblin'man had worried above that the international non-American members would be confused by this RS/Y thread.

2. ramblin'man - my birthday was 2 weeks ago. I am 12 now. Laughing And why can't someone who is otherwise rational have a sports-related Mr. Hyde side? Smile Believe me, to paraphrase Bruce Banner, you don't want to see me watching football. Embarassed Red Sox, Schmed Sox. During football season I scare the neighbors. Laughing I hope I did not offend with my whining. No offense was intended...except a little to people like the above poster...

3. paulie I wondered how long it would take. Rolling Eyes What response could there be to blaming the victim of a vehicular homicide for his own death? Sigh.

Where are you getting this? You are simply making that up to distract from what actually happened. Next thing you'll be claiming the victim said he invented the internet...

Ah, but that's the beauty of it. It long ago ceased to be solely about the games. The entire regions pretty much loathe each other. Well, I guess that's not true. I've been to NYC twice and really enjoyed it, as I am sure most tourists do. But then again, tourists usually avoid the Bronx and Brooklyn and stick to Manhattan...

For those of you in GBR, the best analogy I can come up with is that the Red Sox are the Tim Henman of baseball. Not quite as talented (rich) as the competition (Yankees), always putting the hopes and pressure of a nation on his shoulders and playing into the 2nd week (Game 7's) at the All England Club, but always finding a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory in gut-wrenching fashion. After 86 years, the RS finally won their Wimbledon in 2004.

Of course, while the entire baseball universe outside of NY and St Louis was rooting for them then, I must admit that that near-universal support has quickly dissipated as we have become the Yankees in the last few years. As if Timmy had won Wimbledon, become arrogant and started using steroids to enhance his skills and rise to #1 in the world, the RS have started to far outspend the rest of the league excepting the Yankees, to the point where other towns are now lumping the two franchises together (horror of horrors!).

But we RS fans are still in the afterglow phase, where we are still so giddy to have won after literally generations of futility that we are still in who-cares-what-they-think mode and are starting threads like this one... Embarassed
