I think GS has none of this in mind when he made the forum and it was for fun..........a forum doesn't worth that mush as a "Corporation" like hoster ie RS, MU etc etc. the most they going to and want to do is just shut it down.......like any other Godaddy.com
The way I see it is........if GS is short on cash to run this forum as "Free" for thousands of us......if the software is not too old he could have added a "donation" box as Liudnux mentioned so far as that I see is making sense. One dollar each from us would be I think enough to run the forum a while then if it is depleted ask some more. A one dollar donation from each of us should be more than enough to run a avg forum cost of $250 a year with dedicated host about $300 a month. With thousands members 1 dollar each that should be more than enough..........pretty much one dollar for one or two years form us maybe......not certain....if everyone honestly gave a dollar.
For the hosting services, I think GS should let it ride out it's own course........allow RS, MU, Hotfile, Deposit and some others even Oron if he leaning towards it, limit to around 3 or 4 and let the uploaders/posters and downloaders decided what they want to use. It's not going to be hard....because if majority stays with so and so hoster than he must consider that is the hoster to go. GS must not forget that FO is great because everyone feels that with one service....RS they can get everything they like here and just about 90%.......that is the fundamental reason this forum is working. If he breaks it then maybe...........just maybe.............there will be a transition time where "new" members coming for Oron or whatever FO is allowed but during then.......he will go broke cuz the base of members are gone. To make it work GS........transition must be very slow and not upsetting the majority of your members first.

Wouldn't it be ironic if someone, hyperthetically, owned a site like this, then one day, that person was arrested or something unknown to us all. Then because most people only know the site owner through remote contact on the web, law enforcement took over the site, encouraged everyone to post on this new site, where seeing that last post re Oron's site rules, they could then be prosecuted.

Not saying that is the case, but hyperthetically, it could happen somewhere on a galaxy far far away.

Having had a few days to think about the new rules now, I figure, I don't like them, but it's not my site, so if we want to stay here, we have to play by the rules, but alas most will find new places with new toys. It's still a shame, but I can echo what some have said, even elsewhere, Rapid does seem to be losing massively its pull and fewer and fewer posts are going through them. So it is annoying for us that have so many "rapids" but that's for us to take up with them not this site.

Unfortunately I don't have the cash to join Oron on top of Megaup and Rapid that I already have so no new posts from me and looks like my downloading here will soon stop. So adios, fun for a long long time and thanks for that. We shouldn't forget what was done for us for free.

Well, we're getting there. At least that's a bit of progress.

Dear Members,

I'm the forum owner and I hear you guys. I've been working with moderators, consulting, debating and after many heated discussions we came to a conclusion to allow 3 hosters:
ORON, MU and RS.

So, now all of you have a choice of what to use for your uploads and downloads.
I understand that you guys are used to RS and that's why I brought it back but I just want to let you know that ORON and MU are much better choices right now and you will see it for yourselves and I think gradually switch to those.

Anyway, thank you everybody for your input. If anything else changes, we sure will let everybody know.

I think it's a shame there couldn't have been a discussion about these changes before it came to all this. If you need help to support the forum financially, then it's well worth opening a topic and hopefully people can come up with some ideas?

Finally, a big THANK YOU most of all to the moderators who have fought our corner.

I don't use link protectors myself but some posters consider them to be essential to the health of their threads.

The justification given for their prohibition doesn't hold water.

la4765, if you google any of those fake new members' links you will see they are posted in dozens of threads, so their only intention is to earn money, as much as they can. I don't feel comfortable sharing the forum with guys like these. If you want to earn money, get a job MFs!

I don't use protectors, but, as a regular user of this forum, i can see that many major and respected posters use them. Can't they be allowed again ??

I used attachments and I think that this was a clear bonus of this forum because they were of kind of security and made a difference between leechers and members. Some fantastic posters, like mosaic for instance, used them to protect their links. Can't they be possible again ??

I am sure that GS and the mods and svinto have good reasons to make their decisions, but i should (humbly) be happy to have some explanations.

Things are better now

About link protectors - i'm confused:

1) If forum is searched by automat or bot - bot can easily check for encrypted links in protected format - and then transcript it to the strict location of every file. I'm using Jdownloader and it software need only address (even encrypted) because links are automatically decrypted and original files are added to queue. So for bots there is weak protection imho.

2) If search is done by human - situation similiar, and human must just manually put all links to decrypting software. When i have all page of encrypted links - all i have to do is ctrl+c, and all is automatically decrypted and added to queue.

I think only reasonable option is some "code". In way used by Dagobert1, or others. Such "code" can't be solved automatically by machine. But some files still are deleted, so or some human solves puzzle and report files (protector not stop him) or someone are posting vulnerable files in other places/forums. Protectors won't help in this case too.

This is only my opinion - but in fact most work (hard and long) is done by uploaders, so if any of them want's to use some tool - it is better to help him instead of making his/her work even harder...
