An important announcement!

I must admit I have a hard believing what i'm reading here, you would have thought Good Samaritan had decided to make this a pay-forum or something.

1. Rapidshare may have changed their packages and they certainly are better for downloaders than what they started out with. BUT for uploaders it's the same shit - there's no rapidpoints so no way to earn a free premium account, and that wouldn't be so bad as i'm prepared to pay 10$ a month to keep my files alive. BUT if I wanted to keep the files I had on RS (before they deleted my accounts) I would have to pay 20€/month to keep them up - I had about 1 TB on rapidshare when they deleted them. On Oron I only have to pay the 10$. And yes I would have liked a service (like HF or Fileserve) that gives more or unlimited storage, but thats life.
2. Oron is more expensive than RS - 10$ for 120 GB on RS it's half that - but then again 10$ for 120 GB of porn isn't that bad - you can't even buy a membership to Metart for that.
3. Some people say that RS is used allover the rest of the net, but that's not really the case anymore, on the two largest release-blogs there are almost no RS-links anymore. On the bigger DDL-sites rapidshare links are also disappearing fast, it's only on the number 1 DDL-site that there's any RS-links left and that's only because 4* and 5* sites have to provide a RS-Links (that rule might be history - at least that what the admins are saying).
Yes it would have been better if it had been HF or Fileserve or Netload, because then you could have used the account to get your warez-needs, but then there's a lot other ways to get that: Private-trackers (torrents), Usenet or you could just buy topsite access (yes some in the scene still don't know what security is )

Well that's my thoughts - onto uploading and posting!

Good points RabidSquirrel, but I think the problem is that it has been banned. It isn't a case that RS has fallen out of favour and people are moving away, it has been banned.

This is apparently for members' benefit, yet already good uploaders have started leaving and I am faced with the decision of paying more money for yet another filesharing site.

They might as well have made Forumophilia a pay-only site because to carry on using it I would have to pay to use Oron and then at the end of the day would get less for it because the good uploaders are jumping ship.

RabidSquirrel is right about RS.RS links are harder and harder to find on the blogs of porn because rapidshare is the most hunted server .

I understand what you are saying, tbh , and if all uploaders leave then there's no reason to buy an Oron account.

But for now i'm gonna keep uploading, if in a months time I can see that they are not being downloaded, I might also jump ship.

I can't really see how you can call it all that expensive, it's 10$ for 120 GB which I think is sort of reasonable (don't get me wrong - it could be better - but there are worse out there).
If you have bought a whole lot of rapids (or had a lot of days left) then yes it's a bummer to buy a new account. But I would never advise anyone to buy more than a 1-month account, because tomorrow they might not be there, and yes that also goes for RS. Just look at Megaupload it almost lost it's domain name a couple of weeks ago, and FBI (or more likely the U.S. Attorney for New York) and BREIN have their eyes on them now - so I wouldn't buy a platinum (or any account over a month) there either.

Just want to add my two cents and say this is a disasterous decision as I have paid for a Prem RS account for this forum and am not going to start paying for every other service.

If someone starts a new forum with RS much like this, please PM me and let me know.

I'm a huge fan of this forum but I'm really concerned that the new rules will force people to post on other forums... From what I saw in the different threads I feel that this is already the case!

One thing is for sure though: I paid money for a Rapidshare account and there are some months (or Rapids or whatever they call it now...) left and I'm certainly not willing to pay money for yet another filehoster.

The basics of any operation is that one should listen to the "customers" before making sweeping changes and that has not happened here. While many of us have enjoyed forumophilia for a long time, the loss of thousands of preview pics alone will make it hard for newbes to find what they are looking for.

Noone has ever heard of Oron yet you're **** all uploaders to use it. Even if you're using MU you're still **** to upload a mirror to that totally unknown site. There can only be 1 reason to that, the owner of Forumophilia is related to Oron and wants your money.

Whoa, I totally missed the fact you have to mirror to Oron if you upload to Megaupload. What a total nonsense, these changes are even worse than I thought!

There is obviously some kind of business reason for GS to choose the utterly obscure and unproven Oron. Does he own the filehost?

Posting to megaupload I could just about tolerate, but having to bother with a mirror at Oron - NO THANKS.

And on top of that I see
1. ALL link protectors (!) are banned and
2. pics-hosting is now not allowed; this has proved a great and reliable host for hot-linking of pictures.

Way to kill a brilliant forum in one fell stroke... I doubt I'll be hanging around for long.

What you've said is indeed right RabidSquirrel (in terms of cost and what not).

But I feel that is not the problem.

Personally it is the way the change has been imposed. If ORON was the default filehost from the start, then no one has the right to complain. But that is not the case. Good or bad, all the other filehosts that have now been banned have helped made this site great.

If GS needs help financially to run this site, ask for it. While I admit that only a meager handful would help, that is still help nonetheless, no?

I do hope that GS rescinds his decision, if not... ces't la vie no mon amie?
