Yet another reason to hate this new system. I just got this email from Rapidshare:

So, instead of cutting you off when you exceed your download limit, they automatically jump you up into the next higher bracket. What a nice and convenient way to eat up your #$@% Rapids.

No, Rapidshare - I'm not happy with your service. I don't know what host I'm going to, but I sure as hell ain't stayin' here!

I just saw that my acounts stores 630Gb and i'm still in the RapidSmall-package (for 4Rapids/day). So there must be something wrong with this email you got. Exceeding the storage volume does not force an automatic upgrade of the hosting package, but only exceeding the (download) traffic.
At least for now (or for the first day) ... maybe they change my package in the next hours.
So maybe the suggestion above to split the accounts is a good one: one account for downloading and another one for storing.

But that's the price you have to pay. I guess it should prevent too big accounts that are used for storing purposes. Even if i have the feeling that they will have a lot of unused space on their servers in the next weeks and months

Btw, it looks like the further information that were promised for today are only available in the RS FAQs.
Since it looks like they really turned off any rewards for uploaders (not even 1 Rapid for 100 downloads or something) RS has become a truely altruistic way of sharing files, which is somehow adorable.
You can argue that filesharing is not moneysharing and that's right, but thinking of the fact that RS is now the only one who is profiting from our uploaded files has a bad smell ...

How many of you are going to stop using rapidshare ? if they don't do for uploader's. it's good for down loader's but not for big uploader. and to the board mods and admin. can we use other file host like deposit file's and fileserve ?

Before you do that, you definitely you should have a look through your files and seach for those who may be deleted due to the 60-day inactivity rule:



In the filemanager switch to "Detail View" or "Info View" and sort the files according to their last download time, so you see which file is to be deleted next (so you can maybe post it)

I just noticed that in another account of mine RS choosed a bigger package for me, since there are some files that have not been accessed for 60 days. So the automatic upgrade does only affect accounts that would loose some files otherwise (beside that traffic thing).

I found the files that was due for deletion, It was a couple of mp3 my gf requested months ago.

Bottom line. I'll be using another file host soon. No other file host that I know of makes you click "this option" and "that option" just to keep your files alive. It's way more complicated than it has to be and I'm done with it. Unfortunately, I know I'm not the only former supporter of theirs to be this pissed off. I can see a lot of forums with a lot of dead posts in the coming months as people take their files elsewhere.

I'm actually looking forward to seeing them come up with a new system soon - when they wake up and see that they're suddenly not so popular.

I've got a feeling that if you're on a package that exceeds your storage (ie lower than they recommend) you can't upload any more files!!

I too was "upgraded" last night, & I just ticked small BUT I tried to upload a file twice last night & just tried with a small document file just now & it uploads but it's not stored.

Has anyone tried to upload a file while being on a lower package?

I work 5 days a week. I don't have time to constantly digest rapidshare's bullshit changes. If the only option as an uploader is to pay and constantly having to closely monitor your account, then I'll be going elsewhere. I don't want to have to think about GBs and download limits every day.
