6.

Start your journey early or maybe later
get your boots on

Look for rainbows
it's cloudy

Take your hairdryer
blow them all away.

7.

There is history in this place
There are dragons to be chased
And though I don't know who you are
An easy flow and a strong, a strong heart

Been a while since we had a new challenge, so I'm gonna step up to the plate...

I make no apologies for this being another progtastic trip back to the Seventies. Tried to put a few toughies in here to sort out the men from the boys, as they say. Twisted Evil

So without further ado...

1) Caught the chaos in the market square
I don't know what, I don't know why, but something's wrong down there
Their bodies twistin' and turnin' in a thousand ways
The eyes all rollin' round and round into a distant gaze

2) I just don't care to see your years go wasting
There's no longer magic in your eyes

3) No computer stands in my way
Only blood can cancel my pain
Guardians of a new clear dawn
Let the maps of war be drawn

4) Gazing at people, some hand in hand,
Just what I'm going through they can't understand

5) All alone and all together
Every day, come what may
By the time we find each other
We can live, we can die
And nothing stops the river as it flows by

6) In my town, there is a raincoat under a tree
In the sky, there is a cloud containing the sea
In the sea, there is a whale without any eyes
In the whale, there is a man without his raincoat

7) There is no pain, you are receding
A distant ship's smoke on the horizon
You are only coming through in waves
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying

8 ) Home from work our Juliet
Clears her morning meal
She dabs her skin with pretty smells
Concealing to appeal

9) California tumbles into the sea
That'll be the day I go
Back to Annandale

10) My sun shall rise in the east
So shall my heart be at peace
And if you're asking me when
I'll say it starts at the end

Hey, aren't you supposed to be out buying textbooks or something? Or maybe downloading some Coldplay Rin... SD? Twisted Evil Heh heh, good to see you here Darkstar ... you CSN song-title you ... Darkity-Dark, the Aged One ... the Eighth Wonder of the World ...

Sorry I've been away, and I only have a moment before I have to go get some freakin' sleep ... but I had to post something here, and grab a certain song from Cass's set (can't believe CC or SD didn't grab it, and its a shame that GNOME doesn't poke his furry little face in here any more, he's a huge fan of that band). In fact I'll grab 2 and make an ash of myself. Rolling Eyes Embarassed

2. Persephone - Wishbone Ash. Really different sorta stuff for them, nice ballad. Not a big band in the US, by the way.

3. Karn Evil #9 3rd impression - ELP. From Brain Salad Surgery, ohhhh yeahhhhh. You knew I'd get this one Cass, but still, you turn me on. Cool Of course many people just have the greatest hits or whatever so they only get the famous second part of the "1st" impression. Rolling Eyes They're misssing an awesome, awesome album. Funny ... though I'm not a Brit, I really love their version of Jerusalem. Embarassed "And did those feet in ancient times ..."

Okay Cass, sit down and stop singing now. Very Happy And stop making up words, by the way! Laughing Laughing Prog-what? Laughing Laughing

Quick quiz for you Cass:
1. Where did the name "Brain Salad Surgery" come from?
2. While Greg Lake came from King Crimson, from what bands did Keith Emerson and Carl Palmer come from?

Wow, the Squalid Squab got 5 of them, good on ya CC. Couple were easy -- shit I could do a one-man show of The Wall -- but a couple certainly were NOT. Shocked Yikes. I would not have gotten #1 or #10.

RM

p.s. no clue on #5...

SIR

AN ANSWER TO YOUR Q.
1) I'LL LEAVE UP TO YOU HERE!
2) THE NICE

To answer RM...

Brain Salad Surgery was a term coined (I think) by Dr John. Incidentally, it's one of the those weird occasions when a song doesn't feature on the album which bears it title - the song Brain Salad Surgery is on the Works Vol 2 album (two others: Houses of the Holy by Led Zep, where the song actually appears on Physical Grafitti, and Waiting for the Sun by the Doors, where the song appears on Morrison Hotel/Hard Rock Cafe)

And to fully answer the second question...

Greg Lake came from The Godz and the mighty King Crimson.

Keef came from The Nice, who were formerly PP Arnold's backing band.

Carl Palmer came from the Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Atomic Rooster.

Did I do good? Cool

Sooooooooo, any takers for the last song?

Ohhh, man, I heard y'all wuz talking about ELP, so I had to stop by! Top 5 all-time favo(u)rites for me, no doubt. Cool I had the awesome pleasure of meeting Keith & Carl in a small club out on L.I. when they were touring as 3, and they were really cool! They always got tagged as pretentious by the press, but they were so down to earth. Funny story that I may have told: at the end of the show (in a tiny club that was so small, Carl was flipping the stix behind his back during his solo, and they hit the ceiling - he started soloing off the ceiling! Laughing ), I waited for the roadie to break down Carl's kit, and I offered him $20 a stick, and got `em... At their tour bus, I asked Carl to sign them, and he looked at me funny, and asked where I got them. I told him, and he had a strange look in his eye... The next year, he was selling his sticks on his website. Rolling Eyes Laughing I should get some kinda cut for the idea! Evil or Very Mad Laughing

I also got to meet Carl a few more times at drum clinics, and he was totally cool. Cool Very personable. My brother's then girlfriend had a crush on Carl, and she wore the lowest cut blouse to show the immense ta-tas she had. She took a picture with him, and her bad boys - funny as hell picture! The next time we saw him, she showed him the picture, and he was a little weirded out by it...she gnow hates him!

Those are great stories. Very Happy

The only member of ELP I ever met was Greg Lake. When King Crimson released their Epitaph boxed set of early concert material they had a special playback at a hotel in London for members of the KC Collector's Club. All the original members of the band - Bob Fripp, Greg Lake, Pete Sinfield, Ian McDonald, Peter and Michael Giles - came along, along with a few later members like John Wetton. As you probably know, Greg Lake has blimped out in recent years. He was wearing a bright scarlet jacket and looked a bit like a big red balloon. Laughing

Emerson toured the UK a couple of years back with The Nice. To be honest, The Nice sucked except when it was Emerson dong things like Rondo and America. But the concert picked up after the interval when Emerson sent the rest of The Nice to the bar and came back onstage with a new band of young guys and they hammered through a number of ELP classics like Tarkus.

#2 Joni Mitchell - Both Sides Now

I have to admit, I remembered the lyrics and could sing it in my head, but I had to google to remember who it was. So do I get partial credit? Smile
