Hmmm. I'm a bit surprised, hafta say. You got the ones I thought were harder. So I'm a-guessin' that #11 was a bigger hit in the USA and didn't make it across the pond too much, although its been in several movies. Oh, and the artist for #6 is still open (sorry Cass)

I'll leave it open for another day with hints. Wink

1. Father and Son - Cat Stevens (CC)

2. Rhinestone Cowboy - Glen Campbell (CC)(though it was actually written by someone else)

3. Have you never been mellow - Olivia Newton John (CC)

4. The way I want to touch you - Captain and Tennille (SD)

5. Just you and me - Chicago (SD)

6. Summer Breeze - ??? (1/2 Cass, sorry bro, Isley Bros. version was a cover done a couple years after the original)(but still, good on ya) Smile

7. Magic - Pilot (Cassandrova)

8.
Took away our ways of life
The tomahawk and the bow and knife
Took away our native tongue
And taught their English to our young
And all the beads we made by hand
Are nowadays made in Japan

Hint: this hit #3 on the UK singles chart in 1968. Will accept various names as authors, just get the title right. What sort of people used tomahawks and bows and made beads? Idea

9. Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary MacGregor (SD)

10. Devil Woman - Cliff Richard (Cass)(I was counting on the fact that this guy was much bigger in the UK than he was in the US) Cool

11.
Some day, yeah
We'll get it together and we'll get it all done
Some day
When your head is much lighter
Some day, yeah
We'll walk in the rays of a beautiful sun
Some day
When the world is much brighter

Hint: Group that made it famous was all family members (all chilldren), and signed with George Harrison's Dark Horse label in the early 70s. Song was in the movies Shark Tale, Riding in the Car with Boys, and Boyz in the Hood (among others), an episode of "Cold Case", and commercials for Verizon and the ADHD Road Map to Success Kit. Very Happy

12. Jackie Blue - Ozark Mountain Daredevils (Cass)(holy shit, can't believe someone got this one! Shocked )

C'mon now, do it ... finish me off. Wink

RM

p.s. yeah Chick Chick, I saw the disappointing result and read the write-up. I STILL say that "own goals" should only count as "half a goal". Laughing Then again, it sounds as if they were lucky not to lose the match, so I reckon I should be happy. Must be those DAMN American owners, the bastards...

The Isleys was a cover version? Dang. It's Billy Don't be a Hero all over again. Embarassed

As for Jackie Blue... I not only know the song, I own a copy of the 7"! Very Happy

I know you havent finished yours yet but as I only have 18 posts left I thought I would but in and post a last set.

1 - Christmas, Christmas time is near,Time for toys and time for cheer, We've been good, but we can't last, Hurry Christmas, hurry fast, Want a plane that loops the loop, Me, I want a hula hoop, We can hardly stand the wait, Please Christmas, don't be late

2 - With a little love, we can lay it down, Cant you feel the town exploding?

3 - Big deal, So what, Who cares, You just got lucky that's all, It was, shut up, don't want to hear another word about, Candlelight and long stem roses, And how you're fallin' head over heels, In love, So what, Big Deal

4 - Plays with a vengeance, Controls our very soul, To weave you in my web of love, And never let you go

something for the true Aussies out there from 1978

5 - Lillies pounding down like a machine, Pacoes Making divits in the green, Marsh is taking wickets, Hookeys cleaing pickets and the Chappells eyes have got that killer gleam.

AND = whats the next verse

6 - See mrs. gray shes proud today because her roses are in bloom, Mr. green hes so serene, hes got a t.v. in every room

7 - Youre thinking up your white lies, Youre putting on your bedroom eyes
You say youre coming home but you wont say when, But I can feel it coming, If you leave tonight keep running, And you need never look back again

This is probably one of my all time favorite songs, it marks one of the most important times in modern/ recent history (my lifetime)

8 - The world closing in, Did you ever think that we could be so close, like brothers, The future's in the air, I can feel it everywhere

One of my all time favorite bands, anyone who has been around since the time of mole et al will know what that means. And it seems to talk to me.

9 - Don't talk to me of shattered dreams, Of course you don't know what it means, To live for someone else you can't just take it, Oh and when you're bitten by the truth, You blame it on your misspent youth, you never seem to learn by your mistakes.

and finally the song that sais it all, and sung by my good friend RM, um I mean paul. But that was only a cover for the wings over America Tour, who is the original?

10 - We've already said, So long, I don't wanna see you go, oh you'd better, Go now go now, go now (Go now),

thanks everyone I have had a wonderful time here and with only a couple of posts left I will leave me final farewell for the final post.
If you guys dont get it I will send RM a copy of the answers.

Very Happy No worries, the lyrics in this thread usually range from the 1960s to present-day. So please keep checking, we need some fresh fi ... errr, new blood in here. Laughing

Okay, let me go ahead and finish myself off. Ulp, I mean, finish off my previous set, and then we'll tackle SD's final set (sniff).

1. Father and Son - Cat Stevens (Crazy_Chicken)

2. Rhinestone Cowboy - Glen Campbell (Plucky_Pullet)

3. Have you never been mellow - Olivia Newton John (Heteroclitic_Hen)

4. The way I want to touch you - Captain and Tennille (Sir_Darkstar)

Note: did you know that Toni Tennille did backing vocals on Pink Floyd's The Wall? She's one of the few females listed, and does the speaking part of the female groupie invited back to Pink's place, right before "One of My Turns". She can also be heard clearly in "Waiting for the Worms", and in the chorus in a few other songs.

5. Just you and me - Chicago (Sri_Darko)

Note: song is from Chicago VI, in 1973. Incredibly awesome band from 1967 - 1971, one of my favorites, though they started to lose their plot by the mid-70s. Terry Kath (d. 1978, RIP) was one of the most underrated guitar players of all time, and a damn good singer/songwriter as well.

6. Summer Breeze - Seals and Crofts (1/2 Cassandrova)

7. Magic - Pilot (Papa Cass)

8. Indian Reservation - Paul Revere and the Raiders, or Raiders, or Don Fardon

Cherokee People ... Cherokee Tribe ...

9. Torn Between Two Lovers - Mary MacGregor (Ringo)

10. Devil Woman - Cliff Richard (Cassus Scientius Maximus)

11. Oooh Chil.d - The Five Stairsteps

12. Jackie Blue - Ozark Mountain Daredevils (Cass)(holy shit, I STILL can't believe that someone got this).

Well done gentlemen.

Now on to SD's set.

9. Smokie - Wild wild angels
10. The moody blues - Go now

Okay, at the risk of everyone laughing at me...

Wasn't 1) by the Chipmunks? I had the Chipmunk Christmas album when I was a lad and seem to remember Alvin, Simon and Theodore singing those lines. Or maybe that was just some bad drugs I took when I got to college...

2) With a Little Luck by Sir Paul McCartney

Drawn a blank on the others.

Had to disqualify myself in this forum. Wink

What a co-in-kee-dink, SD mentions Mole in a post, and Bobrysl stops in to say hi. Serendipitous, even. Sorry Cass, CC, etc, these were both guys who were very active around here around April-June 2006.

Finishing up SD's last set:

1 - Christmas dont be late - Alvin and the Chipmunks (Cass)
2 - With a Little Luck - Wings (Cass, close enough)
3 - Big Deal - LeAnn Rimes (CC)
4 - Die for Me Only (Black Widow) - Lita Ford (1/2 for me somewhere else)
5 - C'mon Aussie C'mon - Mojo Singers (its an Aussie thing, we wouldn't understand)
6 - Pleasant Valley Sunday - the Monkees (me, somewhere else)
7 - Take it on the run - REO Speedwagon (CC)
8 - Wind of change - the Scorpions (CC)
9 - Wild Wild Angels - Smokie (CC)
10 - Go Now - the Moody Blues (CC)

I'm not sure to what important world-events SD is referring, in reference to #7. I know "Take it on the run" was a hit single in May/June of 1981, and I know that the album it came from, "Hi Infidelity", was released in December, 1980 (the same month that the world lost John Lennon). But really, I'd just be speculating.

Thus endeth Sir Darkstar's noble efforts here. He will be missed. Moment of silence please.

HeadBowin'Man

p.s please note that SD started this thread in December 2005, and it has been running continuously (more or less) ever since ... 26 months ... that might be some kind of ongoing record, I dunno. Rolling Eyes Very Happy

Here's one from the chicken.

1.

Here we all are sittin in a rainbow(do do do do)
Cor blimey hallo missus Jones hows your Berts lumbago?
I'll sing you a song with no words and no tune
I'll sing at your party while you suss out the moon, oh yeah

2.

When we were at school our games were simple
I played the janitor, you played the monitor
Then you played with older boys and prefects
What's the attraction in what they're doing

3.

The fishing boats go out across the evening water,
Smuggling guns and arms across the Spanish border.
The wind whips up the waves so loud,
The ghost moon sails among the clouds

4.

Till forever on it goes
Thru the circle fast and slow,
I know
It can't stop I wonder

5.

Anyplace is better
Starting from zero got nothing to lose
Maybe we'll make something
But me myself I got nothing to prove

6.

Start your journey early or maybe later
get your boots on

Look for rainbows
it's cloudy

Take your hairdryer
blow them all away.

7.

There is history in this place
There are dragons to be chased
And though I don't know who you are
An easy flow and a strong, a strong heart

8.

What's with these homies dissin' my girl?
Why do they gotta front?
What did we ever do to these guys
That made them so violent?

It's good to see you're still ramblin' (as is your wont). I'm celebrating the return to DSL at the moment, by download a couple pantloads of quality porn, and I thought I'd check out my old haunt. I probably won't return to my old posting habits, but I'll be around for a time.

I'm sorry I missed the last posts of Sir D.... (if he's reading - all the best). It will be interesting to see who is left around.

Good egg-clectic set Chicken. I'll crack a few open while I'm here, but won't be shell-fish and take too many.

2. Carrie Ann - The Hollies. Quick, who was the guitarist for the Hollies who sang backing vocals?

4. Have you ever seen the rain - CCR. That's "Creedence Clearwater Revival", not "Crazy Chicken Ruuuules"!

5. Fast Car - Tracy Chapman

8. Buddy Holly - Weezer. Ahh, the famous "Happy Days" video.

What a trip that Bob has returned, ain't it, Ramblin'? He's missed alot, and not alot at all. So many people have come and gone. Mole was here a few months ago - he popped in on one of my threads, and then left. He said he's into playing computer games nowadays. It's great to see you back, Bob. Cool I posted a Jennifer Love Hewitt shrine over in my celeb shrines thread in the celeb section, if you're interested. I was actually thinking of you when I was posting it.

Hope you stick around for awhile. Cool

Oh, yes, and I'm sure that RM will join me in this refrain: GO BIG BLUE!!! Wink Laughing
