Thanks CC (Insane in the BirdBrain)(sorry I like that one almost as much as Funky Fowl), most revered Grimble, and ... Shocked ... Sir Darkstar? Hey, you're alive! Very Happy Cool. What happened in Uni, did they take all of your capital letters away? Cool Anyway welcome back my friend, to the thread that never ends, we're so glad you could attend, come inside, come inside. Of course now you have to get back to 5000 posts like you used to be. Very Happy

Awesome to see friend Gnome in here. Would have thought you'd know #8, I bet your band has tried bangin' away on a couple songs from this band. Wink Anyway if your voice is like Young Neil's, duuuuude, you're going to be doing lead vocals, not me! =)~

CC, you only get a half for Mississippi Queen. Ozzy didn't do it first. Razz

I'll reprint the open quotes here with answers so far, so that nobody has to page back. Golly ain't I a peach of a guy.

Anyone else interested in having a go? Anyone? Anyone?

And how about that "theme"? Should be more and more obvious? What connects all these songs, and perhaps that will help get the final missing ones? Embarassed

1. Train - Meet Virginia (Crazy Chicken)

2. CSNY - Ohio (Honored Gnome)

3. Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet Home Alabama (Geisteskrank Geflügel) Laughing

4.
Staring at the stars above
Wonder what are we made of
Some folks say that they know right away
So you look on a cloud for a lullaby

5. __________________ - Mississippi Queen ( 1/2 Eccentric Egglayer)

This lady she asked me, If I would be her man
You know that I told her, I'd do what I can
To keep her looking pretty
Buy her dresses that shine
While the rest of them dudes were making their bread
Buddy, beg your pardon, I was losing mine!

6. Mamas and the Papas - California Dreaming (Lunatic Leghorn)

7. Charlie Daniels Band - Devil Went Down To Georgia (Sir_Darkstar)

8.
She ain't the kind to turn
At the drop of her name
Well all the things she does
They turn you on just the same
And I love her,
God knows I love her.

9. Jilly Boel - New York State of Mind (Ringo)

10.
I was raised a farmgirl
I'm too far from home, all alone on the road
Trying to figure out who I am now the the stardust has turned to sand
And the sand has turned to stone on the starmaking machine.

Good to see a new member playing the game Exclamation Damn.... only half a point.... Probably cause black sabath is from BIRMINGHAM and you prefer Liverpool Laughing Well, let me state here and now, that John Winston Lennon (the only Beatle with talent) was an ELO fan. Laughing They (The Beatles and ELO) have one thing in common... The drummers suck big time..... Ringo Starr.... Bev Bevan...... ouch...... Laughing Sounds like an epileptic seizure when they "play" the drums

BARTENDER! I'll have one of what CC's drinking, STAT. Exclamation

Holy crap Man, talk about PUI. Laughing You're going off on tangents that would make even me go hmmmm. Laughing

Everyone knows that Birmingham is a boring-ass place, all industrial and sheidt. Laughing Manchester and Liverpool are great towns, though the latter has a great footie team and the former has a team made up of overpaid MINIONS OF HELL whose deal with the devil paid off well this last season. Cool Ahh but for music, all 3 cities have been great over the years, even Madchester.

And you better hope that Darkstar doesn't see your post, he's a bit of a Ringo fan. Razz He gets a bit ornery, and hey, he does have a scythe and you have a tiny little neck.

Xippo, welcome to the game and yep you are correct, #5 was done originally by Mountain, featuring Leslie West, one of the more famous Lawn gIsland axe-pickers.

CC, you got any more? #4 was my stumper for non-Americans, though #10 isn't terribly famous (but the artist is a babe and has great breastesses). Figgered you or somebody would get #8 though. Bummer Cassandrova isn't around, its right up his alley.

Theme: All song titles have US State names in them. After all, doesn't EVERYONE around the world know all 50 USA State names? Laughing Laughing

Gotta agree with Sir_D on this one. When I was younger, I was into guys like Carl Palmer, Bonham, Paice, Peart, etc, for their obvious ability, but the more I got into the Beatles, I more really started to appreciate Ringo. His fills are epic - everybody gknows them by heart...ie, A Day In The Life, and The End (which gave Moonie the idea to do that drum part at the end of Won't Get Fooled Again). John didn't like drummers who over played, as with most songer/song writers... On the gnew release of Let It Be, there's one part where Ringo does an amazing intro fill, and it throws John off, and John puts on one of his voices and says, "Heyyyy, whaddaya doin' there...?!"

I gotta take Crazy C to task on his statement that John was the only Beatle with talent - musically speaking, he probably had the least. But he did have a helluva voice, and had the amazing ability to simplify his thoughts, and put them into words that were universal.

...But, what tha hell do I gknow - I'm a drummer!

BTW, how do you tell if a stage is level?

If the drummer is drooling from both sides of the mouth! Laughing Laughing Laughing

Good to see the usual suspects here - ssssup, RM, C_C, Sir_D? Cool

Sorry, Braxy, my offering surely will gnot match anything that good ol' Ramblin' may have share with us, but it's something til he stops in....

1. "So you found a girl
Who thinks really deep thoughts
What's so amazing about really deep thoughts
Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon
How's that thought for you?"

2. "She is like a cat in the dark
and then she is the darkness
she rules her life like a fine skylark
and when the sky is starless
All your life you've never seen
woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
will you ever win?
Will you ever win?"

3. "It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh I never should have said the books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
And it's the memories of the shed that make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise"

4. "Write me a letter a face in the hall
hiding from someone afraid of the fall
and she's waiting for someone to take her back to where she came from
and she'll wait alone for hours she won't mind because there's someone
in the story she remembers she remembers in the letter
and the tears locked up inside her make her heart break open wider
shuts her eyes and takes the picture from the wall "

5. "She lives in this house over there
Has her world outside it
Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth
She's five years old

Thread worms on a string
Keeps spiders in her pocket
Collects fly wings in a jar
Scrubs horse flies
And pinches them on a line
Ohhh... "

6. "I wanna hold the hand inside you
I wanna take the breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life, you go in shadow
You'll come upon and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Close your eyes with what's not there"

7. "The priests and the friars
Approach me in dread
Because I still love you
My love and your dead
I still would be your shelter
Through rain and through storm
And with you in your cold grave
I cannot sleep warm."

8. "There are no words to say
No words to convey
This feeling inside I have for you
Deep in my heart
Safe from the guards
Of intellect and reason
Leaving me at a loss
For words to express my feelings
Deep in my heart
Look at me losing control
Thinking I had hold
But with feelings this strong
I'm no longer the master
Of my emotions."

9. "Thursday afternoon
You cast a shadow 'round my room.
The breeze moved the curtains,
and lifted my perfume into the air,
and danced with lazy curls in your hair.
The sun was in the sky like pink champagne,
and it glistened in your eyes all day."

10. "...baby, dont get crazy
Detours...fences...I get defensive
I know you've heard it all before -
So I don't say it anymore
I just stand by and watch you
Fight your secret war.
Although I used to wonder why -
I used to cry till I was dry.
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside..."

Never played before, so I hope ID-ing only the ones I recognize is OK. If you are supposed to know them all before posting, my bad, and this post is just a hint. Smile

1. Tori Amos - Silent All These Years (nice one)

6. Mazzy Star - Fade Into You

9. Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - Air of December?

You can have half Braxy, but I'm laying claim to the other half. Wink

Thanks for posting most esteemed Grimble. Looks like "someone" has an affinity for late 80s and 1990 there huh. Razz And ... heh heh GK, chickrock ... you didn't really think that ol' Rambler would ... heh. Of course Billy beat me to the one TA song (what an amazing songwriter is she). Stumped me on #5 though, I'm gnowhere gnear gknowing that one. Confused

I'll snag a few and see if Darkstar or his evil twin show up and get some. I should leave #2 for him, but I can't resist a chance to make fun of the goat-voiced one. Twisted Evil (sorry, I gknow you like her, but her voice is gnails on chalkboard to moi). And will be curious to see if we get 2 different gnames for the group in #4. Shocked

#2. Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac (written and performed by Stevie Ni-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-cks)

#3. Here's Where The Story Ends - The Story. GK, you hit me up gnicely with this one, as its one of my favorite songs. And the odd thing is that -- as analytical and obsessive about music as I am -- I can't really say why its one of my favs. Just love it. Oh, and 1990. Cool

#7. I am stretched out on your grave - Sinead O'Connor. One of the better songs off of her amazing debut album (1990). Very talented, if misguided, Eirrish songstress. Oh, and Grimble -- Nothing compares 2 U. Laughing

#10. Joey - Concrete Blonde. Very, very passionately-sung song, not sure if Jannette (Jonnette? Johnette? Janette? Oh fuck-all, that Napolitano chickie) has ever sounded better. Song is all about being in a relationship with an alcoholic ("fight your secret war") in case anyone wuz a-wondering. Some of you can probably relate ...

Wonder where the Plucky Pullet is? Probably celebrated a little too much as his country bitch-slapped those Italian scallions earlier today. Razz
