Like me...

1. Immigrant Song, Led Zeppelin
3. I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide, ZZ Top
4. Wango Tango, Nugent Ted
5. Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap - not one of my favorite AC/DC songs
9. Free Ride, Edgar Winter
10. Smoke of the Water, Deep Purple (only the third best song off Machine Head after Lazy and Space Trucking **)

** the alternate version of Lazy on the 25th Anniversary release of Machine Head is just absolutely amazing - so much energy.

An old pop classic for the dated among us...

And Go-Kart Mozart was checking out the weather chart
See if it was safe outside
And Little Early Burly came by in his Curly Whirly
And asked me if I needed a ride

2: Rainbow - Man on the Silver Mountain

6: Head East - Theres Never Been Any Reason This one I heard on the way home from work, and they said the bands name. I wouldn't of guessed the bands name, but the lyrics rung a bell.

7: The Rolling Stones - I Just Want to Make Love to You

Not bad, gents, not bad. #8 was the toughie for the set, though I'm sure Sir Darkstar could have gotten it with both skeletal hands tied behind his back. Perhaps he's still mad at me for that Stevie Nicks picture I posted...

And Funslover, I'm feelin' ya ... and good to see you 'round these parts. Very Happy

1. Led Zeppelin – Immigrant Song
Funslover
aaa-aaaa-AAAAAAAAA-aa!

2. Rainbow – Man on the Silver Mountain
Ozzy
Good one O-man, not that easy a snag. Great old hard rock song, before there was a thing called "metal". Ritchie Blackmore ... Ronnie James Dio ... hey, anyone else remember the band "Elf"? Confused

3. ZZ Top – I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide
FL representin'
The original "Roots Rock" band. Did some great hard Texas Blues Rock before going commercial in the friggin' 80s.

4. Ted Nugent – Wango Tango
FL again
Remember those big ol' wide-collared shirts? Embarassed Guy was such a perv, wang dang sweet poon-tang!

5. AC/DC – Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
same ol' man of the forum Funslover Laughing

6. Head East – Never Been Any Reason
Ozzy again.
Classic Rock station staple from 1974, thanks to these Illinois rockers.

7. Foghat – I just wanna make love to you - originally written by Willie Dixon (like many blues rock songs, see "Led Zeppelin")
1/2 point Ozzy - the Stones covered this in the 60s, and it wasn't nearly the KICK-ASS version Foghat unleashed in the 70s. Twisted Evil

8. Molly Hatchet – Whiskey Man
BZZZZZZ. No good ol' Gawd-Poundin' Southern Rock fans here, eh? Speaking of which, anybody seen Lynyrd? Lynyrd????

9. Edgar Winter Group – Free Ride
Funslover once more

10. Deep Purple – Smoke on the Water
Funslover at the last
Okay, hold your hand up if you remember going roller skating to this song. All skate, everyone skate ... now reverse. Embarassed

Melmac, thanks for the Bruce Springsteen quote. Manfred Mann did a much more famous cover of it in the mid-70's, but that Joisey boy BS had it on his Greetings From Asbury Park album wayyyy back in 1973.

Cassandrova, I missed your message ... got one for us there hoss? Go for it. I don't think SD will mind, he's too busy tearing new buttholes for all the spammers we seem to have around.

If not, I've got another set just like this one all rarin' to go. Pile in those pick-ups, fill the back up with water, and ride around town on a hot day gettin' all the hot babes to come a-swimmin', ohhh yeahhh. Cool

Absolutely, though I think Lazy is better live. And, IMRO, DP's live stuff was all incredible. Hard to find good clean recordings, at least, it was hard to find 10 years ago. Haven't noticed if anything's been re-re-released, and I can't remember if I've heard that 25th anniversary release you mention (should be 1997? 98?). Will check it out.

Of course, I've been an Ian Gillan fan ever since he did the original recording of Jesus Christ Superstar in what, 1970? Embarassed I guess that's okay, since I was only 4 then, huh. But I was a fan by the mid-70s.

And everyone knows that the pRon star Paul Thomas played "Peter" in the movie adaption of JCS in 1973. That guy could really sing. Then he went pRon. Some guys have all the luck, eh. Evil or Very Mad Laughing

They had RJD on "The Classics" or whatever the radio broadcast is called, last night.

He was asked about playing back then compared to now, and the first thing he mentioned was playing in Rainbow. He mentioned how first starting out was a rather unique experience, seeing everything for the first time, and that it could become passe` for people later on, but he hasn't gotten there yet, and still enjoys playing.

The station I listen to, WBLM, has a top 500 rock albums voted on by the fans going on right now, and that was how I got the name of Head East, other than that I would of never guessed their name. The song I hear quite often though.

Foghat does play a better version, but The Stones popped into my head first, so that was who I wrote. Embarassed I have the Foghat version on my computer, maybe I should of looked there first. Very Happy

Can't believe I didn't get the Molly Hatchet song. I love southern rock, and Molly Hatchet was the first southern rock band I liked. IIRC I was 11 or 12, and Flirtin' with Disaster was the first song I had ever heard from them. Beatin' the Odds, Gator Country, Bounty Hunter, bringing back some fond memories of ****hood. Cool Cool

The 25th anniversary release is a double CD, with the first CD being Machine Head as it was released and the second being Roger Glover's remixes. In the case of Lazy, he used the first take which had the energy of a live performance.

So Ozzy now we know sort of where you live. Ayuh. Laughing

Dio actually used the word "passé", and correctly? Wow. Didn't think he'd have enough brain cells left.

Flirtin' with Disaster would have been too easy, right? Cool Well yep given my love of the Blues, I had my 70s "southern rock" stage. But given my dislike of Country, my liking of it waned. Very Happy Of course Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Allman Brothers (see sig) were the best of the genre, though I was always partial to the Outlaws (e.g. Green Grass and High Tides) and the Marshall Tucker Band. And let's not forget Black Oak Arkansas. Shocked Hated .38 special though.

Incidentally, I will never post a Stones song ... unless it is one of the only 2 I like from them (Sympathy for the Devil, You Can't Always Get What You Want). Otherwise RM hates the Stones, yes he does.

Cassandrova ... yo. You're up, dude. I'll give you a day or two, but then I'm a-gonna post my other asskickin' 70s set.

RM

p.s. Thanks for the link and info funslover. Very Happy

Ayuh! You should at least know the state I live in. Very Happy

He did use passe` correctly, and it doesn't sound like he's doing any drugs at all anymore. Seems a lot more level headed than I had ever heard him before.

I'm not a fan of country, but I still love southern rock, but I'm a big fan of rock, so I don't care if it's southern or not. I do like some of Charlie Daniels band, and that's as close to country as I'll ever get. The Legend of Wooley Swamp is my favorite from them, Stroker's Theme comes in second, followed by Long Haired Country Boy. I know some will say he is country all the way, but I don't think every thing they released was completely country. If it is, I'll deny that fact. Laughing Laughing

Okay, I am now re-setting my challenge.

As I said before, we are going to 'progress' (that might be a clue) through the 1970s... Very Happy

1) Sitting on a park bench
Eyeing little girls with bad intent

2) Over the garden wall
Two little lovebirds cuckoo to you
Keep them mowing blades sharp

3) Blood rack barbed wire
Politician’s funeral pyre
Innocents ****d with napalm fire

4) Nevermore shall I return
Escape these caves of ice
For I have dined on honey dew
And drunk the milk of paradise

5) We’re just two lost souls
Swimming in a fish bowl
Year after year

6) Three years sailing on bended knee
We found no whales in the sea
Don’t cry, little Robin-Marie
Because you know I’m coming home soon

7) Baby Jane’s in Acapulco
We are flying down to Rio

8 ) So you think your schooling’s phoney
I guess it’s hard not to agree
You say it all depends on money
And who is in your family tree

9) Later on the golf course
After drinking tea
It started raining golfballs
And she protected me

10) Dawn of light lying between a silence and sold sources
Chased amid fusions of wonder, in moments hardly seen forgotten,
Coloured in pastures of chance dancing leaves cast spells of challenge,
Amused but real in thought, we fled from the sea whole.

5 - Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

8 - Supertramp - Bloody Well Right
