Very good ozzy1234...

Although, in fairness, your namesake Ozzy's version of 21st Century Schizoid Man is a cover... Surely someone remembers who performed the original version?

And you mean to say that no-one recognised number 10) instantly???? Laughing

Esty you crack me up. Just smile, nod, and have another potato farl! Cool Most of these are way before your time ... you weren't even a glint in your Da's eye. Wink

Was hoping that Funslover or SD would chime in ... you know, some of my fellow old men ... but alas, not much happenin' here. SD has already left this thread for dead several times over the last couple years, but pain-in-the-ass-moi keeps reviving it. Wink

Anyway Cassandrova good stuff here. Progressive, eh? Where's ELP, or The Moody Blues? Laughing Well at least you got the 2 best drummers EVER in there (Peart and Bruford)(with apologies to Bonham, Palmer, and Moon). And Ozzy you should have left #5 for Gnome, not that he has time to take off from his incredible posting to peek over here.

I'll take my share of these, though C you got me on #7 and #9. I know I'll smack myself in the head when I look them up. Confused

#2. Genesis - I Know What I Like blah blah blah in your wardrobe. Firth of Fifth was better, but I digress. 1973. I was 7 years old. When men were men, and songs were 10 minutes long. Selling England by the Pound, with Mr. Gabriel still leading the group. Yummy.

#3. King Crimson - 21st Century Schizoid Man. Most people only know "The Court of the Crimson King", but yes, indeedy, there were other songs on that album... Thanks Ozzy, didn't know that your namesake did a cover of that song, will have to check it out.

#4. Rush - Xanadu. Not to be confused with Olivia Newton John's Xanadu. Rolling Eyes Razz

#6. Mountain - Nantucket Sleigh Ride. Personally, I much prefer Theme from an Imaginary Western, especially Live (e.g. the Woodstock bootleg). Mr. Bruce had a helluva set of underrated pipes on him, yes he did.

#10. The opening lyric from YES - Tales of the Topographic Oceans. Were there any actual songs on that bizarre album? Be fucked if I know. Maybe something about a DAWN? Rolling Eyes Man they did go "out there" for a couple years, didn't they. Wasn't my thing, from '73 to '77 or whatever.

Thanks C.

Man, I don't even remember 73 to 77. Wait... There's something... Nope, just an acid flash.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Back then a "tub" certainly had a different meaning, n'est-ce pas?

Shortly after that time, of course, disco was starting ...

Kudos to ramblin' man!

Spot on every time!

I can reveal that the Yes track is actually called The Revealing Science of God. But hey: I'm just glad someone else has listened to Tales from Topographic Oceans all the way through! Laughing

Question 9) is probably the toughie. Although the song is on one of the quintessential prog albums of the 70s.

And I'm surprised no-one has got 7) yet - it was the only one of the songs to go into the pop charts and has to be one of the greatest debut singles of all time...

LOL! You never fail to amaze me. I thought for a second that really was a picture of me from the disco era, but then I remembered that I had a perm.

BUMP!

Cassandrova, can you put us out of our misery? #7 and #9?

I have another set waiting in the wings, and this one is a little more recent -- Esteban might have a shot at some! Laughing Laughing

Elmo, you're the one that amazes me, amigo. No one else could ever hump that poor stuffed animal for as long as you have. One wonders if you'll ever go back to boppin' Jordan C. like you used to. Wink

Sure thing... Very Happy

7) Virginia Plain by Roxy Music, a 7" inch release that I believe was later added to their self-titled first album as a bonus track

and

9) Golf Girl by Caravan, off the In the Land of Grey and Pink album

Caravan ... Shocked Oy. I think they were "progressive" before the term even applied (or, some would say, crappy), back in the 60s, weren't they? Laughing Eh, could be wrong. By the way, I think they were bigger in the UK, not so much in the Colonies.

Should have known the Roxy Music tune, dadgum it. After all, a band with such wonderful initials should be right up my alley...

I did honestly give Tales from Topographic Oceans several college tries. I mean, there are plenty of examples of albums which I just didn't "get" from the first listen, or the 2nd ... 3rd ... whatever. Radiohead's "OK Computer" from the mid-90s is a great example, or older stuff like Rush's 2112. So I tried and I tried and I tried with TfTO. Never got it. Cool

Thanks for the set.
