But on the whole, the _group_ is the best ever, as far as I'm concerned. 38 years (I think) since they got together, and 33 years since their first album (I think Alex and Geddy were in high school together)

So I guess at this point I need to spoil my "name the song" post above

A refuge for the coming night
A future of eternal light
No one gets to their heaven without a fight

It's from Rush's (of course) latest album "Snakes and Arrows" album released May 1, the second song on the album called Armor and Sword

Hmmm. Have to admit that they fell out of favor with me in the mid-80s with Power Windows and Grace under Pressure -- I wished they wouldn't have tried to use some of that crappy mid-80s technology. I came back to them in the early 90s with Roll the Bones and Counterparts, but honestly, while still incredibly talented, I thought they were pretty done. E.g. Geddy's voice was straining, and so on.

Just my ramblin' opinion now, don't be hatin'. Cool

Of course, from '74 to '82 ... from their debut (my God "Working Man" was incredible) to Signals, oh yeeeeeaaaahhhhh. And their musical talent for a trio was unparalleled. I think I spent like an hour one day just trying to figure out the time signature changes in La Villa Strangiato. Embarassed

Honestly didn't know they were still going, and wow just released a new album, eh? They must be in their mid-50s now, hmmmm. Maybe I'll give that there SnA a little listen, to see what's up. Very Happy Thanks for the recommendation.

PassageToBangkokin'Man

"And the meek shall inherit the earth..."

Yes, Ramblin, I have to agree that the 80's were not the highlight of Rush's career, but even then, I relished every album they put out during that time. There were a few awsome charts from every one of those albums. The "techno experiment" with tons of synths at that time has thankfully been replaced by the power-trio configuration (bass - drums- guitar) in the latest three albums.

Snakes and Arrows, the latest, takes some growing time to really like it, as did the previous album, Vapor Trails, which is actually, in my opinion, the best Rush album ever (and I've been following them since Signals when I was in high school.)

Vapor trails came out about 5 or 6 years ago and was the first album they produced after Neal suffered the double tragedy of losing his 19 year old daughter in a car accident, and then his wife to cancer a year later...

And prior to Vapor trails, Test for Echo came out, and is also a great album. I'd recommend you spend time with all of these if you were once a rush fan Very Happy

Heck, maybe we should start a Rush thread here in the GC section. I could talk about them all night Embarassed Total pr0n tends to get boring...

Fire on High - ELO How could I forget that one?!?!?

When I was you-nger and worked at an amusement park, they had a ride called The Astrosphere, and that was the only song ever played for that ride. I must have heard it over 1,000 times during the summer months.

Shit. Was this by chance in central New Jersey? Reason I ask is because I remember going to a certain park in NJ as a yung'un (I grew up in near Phila) ... and they had this ride that played that song over and over ... and no, I'm not joking, I'm serious. Shocked

So of course it is included in the set! Idea

RM, nope it was up in Maine.

That was the only song ever played on that ride, year in and year out.

One reason I shocked I didn't remember it, heard it so many times.

Time by PF from Dark Side of the Moon

Here's mine:

1) I wasn't walking on water
I was standing on a reef when the tide came in

2) I'll run, I'll run to Niagara
I'll cry , I'll cry in the dark
She wouldn't have me for conversation no more
Her last destination's outta town

3) A boy tries hard to be a man
his mother takes him by his hand
If he stops to think
He starts to cry
Oh why?

4) the finest hour I've ever known
was finding a pound in the underground

5) Your friends are sorry for me
They watch you pretend to adore me
But I'm no fool to this game

Hate to see this thread on "page 2". Embarassed I'll try to finagle a set soon to see what happens...

Dedicated to Gnome. One of those where KM showed off his singing talents. Very Happy Grimble, I hope you have found some drums to play down there, don't you go stopping the music now. Cool

A beach is a place where a man can feel
He's the only soul in the world that's real
Well I see a face coming through the haze
I remember him from those crazy days

Ain't you the guy who used to set the paces
Riding up in front of a hundred faces
I don't suppose you would remember me
But I used to follow you back in '63

I've got a good job
And I'm newly born
You should see me dressed up in my uniform
I work in hotel, all gilt and flash
Remember the place where the doors were smashed?

Bell Boy! I got to keep running now
Bell Boy! Keep my lip buttoned down
Bell Boy! Carry this baggage out
Bell Boy! Always running at someone's heel
You know how I feel, always running at someone's heel

Some nights I still sleep on the beach
Remember when stars were in reach
Then I wander in early to work
Spend the day licking boots for my perks

A beach is a place where a man can feel
He's the only soul in the world that's real
Well I see a face coming through the haze
I remember him from those crazy days

People often change
But when I look in your eyes
You could learn a lot from
A job like mine
The secret to me
Isn't flown like a flag
I carry it behind
This little badge
What says

Bell Boy! I got to keep running now
Bell Boy! Keep my lip buttoned down
Bell Boy! Carry this baggage out
Bell Boy! Always running at someone's heel
You know how I feel, always running at someone's heel

4 - I, dont want to know your name, cause you dont look the same, the way you did before.

5 - Shes so young at heart, she likes the pleasure of his company.

No worries, Melmac ... SD should be far more embarrassed that he not only posted it, but also posted #9. Had to look it up ... oh, the horror ... the horror ...

Tough set Darkity-Dark. Ones I knew:

#3. The group is Manfred Mann, but I'm not sure of the song title. The refrain goes "Like the fox, like the fox, like the fox on the run", so I'm guessing the title is the same as in ...

#4. Sweet - Fox on the Run. Much more famous song. Very Happy

#7. Rob Thomas - This is how the heart breaks

#8. Ringo Starr - the title is something I'd say to Kelsey Chow, who's in the American TV show "One Tree Hill" - You're 16, You're Beautiful, and You're MINE!

#10. Meetwood Flac - Seven Wonders

Okay, my turn. LET'S KICK SOME ASS NOW! Shocked

I'm talkin' 1970's. I'm talking heavy guitars and no holds barred. Twisted Evil And for fuck's sake, none of those long-haired pussy metal bands of the 80's. Twisted Evil

I'm talkin' being in your late teens, going out with your buddies in an old POS Ford pickup, yellin' at all the old people, whistlin' and hootin' at the girlies, and, above all, playin' the music fuckin' LOUD. Shocked Mad Cool

I'm talkin' music to play while you go out lookin' for some BEER, some BABES, and someBODY'S ASS TO KICK! Or, as they call it in Australia, "weekdays". Rolling Eyes Laughing

Getcher motor runnin' ... head out on the highway ... okay, now, let's start with the easier of my 2 sets. And SD, please leave some for the masses, I know you'll know every last one of 'em. Shocked

1. How soft your fields so green, can whisper tales of gore
Of how we calmed the tides of war, we are your overlords
On we sweep with threshing oar
Our only goal will be the western shore

2. I'm the day, I'm the day
I can show you the way
And look, I'm right beside you
I'm the night, I'm the night
I'm the dark and the light
With eyes that see inside you

3. Easin' down the highway in a new Cadillac,
I had a fine fox in front, I had three more in the back.
They sportin' short dresses, wearin' spike-heel shoes,
They smokin' Lucky Strikes, and wearing nylons too.

4. You take her right ankle out
You take her left ankle out
You get her belly propped down
You get her butt propped up
Yeah lookin' good now baby
I think you're in the right position now baby

5. If you got a lady and you want her gone
But you ain't got the guts
She keeps naggin' at you night and day
Enough to drive you nuts

6. Save my life, I'm going down for the last time.
Woman with the sweet lov'in, better than a white line.
Bring a good feeling ain't had in such a long time.
Save my life, I'm going down for the last time.

7. I can tell by the way that you baby talk,
I can see by the way that you switch and walk,
I can tell by the way that you treat your man,
But I could love you baby, it's a cryin' shame.

8. You start to get straight , then you get weak,
Can't you see your on a loosing streak.
You have your highs, you have your lows,
Nobody knows which way you'll go.

9. All over the country, I'm seeing the same
Nobody's winning, at this kind of game
We gotta do better, it's time to begin
You know all the answers
Must come from within, so

10. They burned down the gambling house
It died with an awful sound
Funky Claude was running in and out
Dragging kiids out the ground
