Hey SD - That was a good set, really. Never heard of a few of those artists (Delta WHO??), but hey, its not like I'm an expert or anything (like you make me out to be at least!). Smile Offspring, YES! That's right, and they had that great "Self Esteem" song as well.

Hmmm, I don't remember leaving. Question I was sick for a couple days, and I talked about my upcoming Morocco vacation in mid-May, but otherwise, yeah, still here. And thanks for the PM, check yours.

Your wish is my command, sahib. Evidently you want another break this weekend so Darkstar-Junior is ready ... we'll see if our team of song-guessers are still around. I really don't want to hijack your thread though, my man ... your sets have been fantastic, really.

NEXT SET -- the '80s! That's right -- bad hair, emerging heavy metal, classic rock band vocalists trying to go solo, Madchester rock in England, punk, electronica, the whole schmeal. Note -- RM does NOT do Michael Jackson (hee hee), Wham, or Duran Duran. Everything else is fair game. One song per year as before. Most of these might be easy but yeah there's a stumper or two Wink

#1. (1980) Our life together is so precious together, we have grown, we have grown. Although our love is still special, let's take a chance and fly away somewhere alone.

#2. (1981) All the world's indeed a stage, and we are merely players. Performers and portrayers, each another's audience, outside the gilded cage.

#3. I could feel at the time, there was no way of knowing. Fallen leaves in the night, who can say where they're blowing.

#4. He calls me over, calls me brother and I know. Always fighting and moonlighting, it never ends. In the city, if you're all alone, there's a sister and she's standing next to her man.

#5. Yeah, we're runnin' a little bit hot tonight. I can barely see the road from the heat comin' off of it. You reach down, between my legs, ease the seat back ... She's blinding, I'm flying, right behind the rear-view mirror now.

#6. (1985) Heifer whines could be human cries, closer comes the screaming knife. This beautiful creature must die, this beautiful creature must die, a death for no reason.

#7. No fight left or so it seems, I am a man whose dreams have all deserted. I've changed my face, I've changed my name, but no one wants you when you lose.

#8. Strapped in the chair of the city's gas chamber, why I'm here I can't quite remember. The surgeon general says it's hazardous to breathe, I'd have another cigarette but I can't see, tell me who ya gonna believe.

#9. You see my old man's got a problem: he live with the bottle that's the way it is. He says his body's too old for working, I say his body's too young to look like his.

#10. (1989) I can feel the earth begin to move, I hear my needle hit the groove, and spiral through another day. I hear my song begin to say, kiss me where the sun don't shine.

The eighties were a wasteland musically for me. However, I do recognize Fast Car by Tracy Chapman, thanx to SD's hint.

Answers:

#1. (1980) John Lennon -- (just like) Starting Over
#2. (1981) Rush - Limelight
#3. (1982) Roxy Music -- More Than This
#4. (1983) Genesis -- Its Gonna Get Better
#5. (1984) Van Halen -- Panama
#6. (1985) The Smiths -- Meat is Murder
#7. (1986) Peter Gabriel (with guest vocals by Kate Bush) -- Don't Give Up
#8. (1987) Guns 'N' Roses -- Paradise City
#9. (1988) Tracy Chapman -- Fast Car
#10.(1989) The Stone Roses -- She Bangs the Drum

Sorry that I screwed this set up. Sad

Mole I thought that Tracy Chapman might be a bit of a stumper for anyone outside the US -- but I looked it up and I am way wrong, she was even more popular in the UK for some reason. Thought the Stone Roses and the Smiths would be a stumper for Yanks, as both of those groups did almost nothing in the US but were huge in the rest of the world.

Funslover I'm totally with you -- the 80s were far and away the worst decade, and the one I know and like the least -- despite me evidently being the same age as SD. Of course there were some good bands and songs though. And some of the albums -- such as Rush's Moving Pictures and Dire Straits' Brothers in Arms -- are certainly among the best of all time.

Operating under my "why build one when you can build two at twice the price" philosophy, I've got another one from the 80s and could perhaps redeem myself -- just say the word SD. No worries either way.

Go for it RM, the 80's was my time for music and I am afraid I have to disagree with you and funslover.

Some of the best music came from that era. Im more of a hard rock man so I enjoy bands like bon jovi - started recording around 1982, u2 started around the same time, motley crue, cinderella, white snake, ronnie jame dio, and the list goes on, but on the other side of the coin we had straglers from the 70's that made a huge influence on the non dance/disco era of the 80's. kate bush, fleetwood mac, stevie nicks, gene pitney, AC\DC, the Angels, and them some bands that emerged in that era include INXS, and the list continues

throw 80's all you want RM I'm looking forward to it

I agree on Dire Straits. I'm not a Rush fan.
