Next set. More '80s. Again, one from each year. There will be no Hee Hee, no Duran freakin' Duran, no Thompson Twins, no Wham, and MY GOD no Prince. But otherwise -- you want variety? Ok, I gotcher variety right down heah...

Get 'em while they're hot. Get 'em while they're cold. Get 'em 'til they get to be 2 days old.

#1. (1980) Come up on different streets, they both were streets of shame. Both dirty, both mean, yes and the dream was just the same. And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real.

#2. (1981) Beat me up with your letters, your walk out notes. Funny how you still find me right here at home, legs up with a book and a drink.

#3. White man came across the sea, brought us pain and misery. Killed our tribes, killed our creed, took our game for his own need. We fought him hard, we fought him well, out on the plains we gave him hell.

#4. There's a kiid who had a big hallucination, making love to girls in magazines. He wonders if you're sleeping with your new found faith. Could anybody love him, or is it just a crazy dream.

#5. Now Main Street's whitewashed windows and vacant stores, seems like there ain't nobody wants to come down here no more. They're closing down the textile mill across the railroad tracks, Foreman says these jobs are going boys and they ain't coming back.

#6. We can't go on pretending day by day, that someone, somehow will soon make a change. We're all a part of God's great big family, and the truth - you know love is all we need.

#7. (1986) It was long ago, it seems like yesterday. I saw you standing in the rain, then I heard you say. I want to love, but it comes out wrong, I want to live, but I don't belong.

#8. I should have known better, than to let you go alone. It's times like these I can't make it on my own. Wasted days, and sleepless nights, and I can't wait to see you again.

#9. Can I survive all the implications, even if I tried could you be less than an addiction. Don't you think I know there's so many others, who would beg steal and lie, fight kill and die, just to hold you.

#10. (1989) What chance did I stand? How could I resist? Your American arms and your French kiss. From New York to London, London to New York, with this broken heart so British.

RM

p.s. SD, damn you ... you had to go and mention RJD, which changed my 1983 selection, oh well. Also ... Bonjovi and U2 are "hard rock"? Rolling Eyes Very Happy Very Happy

Wow, I bet most yanks would find that a stumper, she's not very well known in the Estados Unidos (although I love her and actually had dinner at a table with her and 8 other people in San Francisco before seeing her in concert). Would you have got it if I used the song Porcelain instead? Smile Plus its chick-rock, which I wouldn't think would be that popular in this testosterone-laden forum (no offense Mozzie).

Anyway, Oobz, yeah, I'm no Darkfather. Trying to do better though. Did you see that he broke the 2000 post barrier? Sheesh. All that and a musical expert too. Hey, you'll be banging through that barrier yourself pretty soon huh, cool.

I'm closing this one out. I bet SD knows the missing 2 but its been a day-and-a-half so there you go.

#1. Dire Straits - Romeo and Juliet. Awesome Funslover. Song was also beautifully covered by one of my all-time favorite Chick-rock groups, the Indigo Girls (little-known international fact -- REM is only the second best band to come out of Athens, Georgia).
#2. Squeeze - Is That Love?
#3. Iron Maiden -- Run to the Hills. SD, as I mentioned in your forum, I honestly didn't get this from there. Just a weird coincidence, amigo.
#4. Pink Floyd -- The Final Cut. Great one, Funslover.
#5. Bruce Springsteen -- My Hometown. Funslover, you da man.
#6. USA for Africa -- We are the World. SD/Funslover, most excellent.
#7. Smithereens -- Blood and Roses. Good one Sir-DAMNyougotthatone.
#8. Whitesnake -- Is This Love. Awesome Darkfather. Had to include this title once I put in the Squeeze song above. Laughing
#9. Melissa Etheridge -- Like the Way I do.
#10. Julia Fordham -- Manhattan Skyline. Oobooloo I am VERY impressed.

Stumpers were #2 and #7. Surprised no one got the Melissa Etheridge song, that was her first big hit (at least in the US). She was young, and she was incredibly INTENSE then. Great song, god-pounding great song. Mole would probably have gotten it, but I'm not sure when we'll be seeing him again in this forum, unfortunately. Or Tamarin.

USA for Africa -- first performed to close out the Live Aid concert in Phila, and yes, Ramblin'Man was there. 1985, I was 19, I grew up outside of Phila, and was there at JFK with some friends (and about 110,000 other friends) from high school who I hadn't seen in over a year since we graduated. It was so friggin' hot, stupid Geldof did it in JULY for chrissake. Quite a day. Good, but the bands only did about 3 songs each -- which was good for some shitty bands like the Hooters but it sucked for some awesome stuff like Eric Clapton. High point for me was LedZep reunion doing Stairway, and all of Neil Young's set -- Powderfinger, Needle and the Damage Done, Sugar Mountain, Helpless, ....... <shiver>. Ahhhh, sorry for ramblin' on so, me mateys.

Can't believe I just put Julia Fordham and Iron Maiden in the same set. God I am so messed in the head. I mean, WTF? Sorry folks.

All yours SD. Time for me to <whoosh>.

I remember watching it. I bet you guys didnt see anything of the Aussie shows? we had some talent. but thats life, I satyed up all night to see Dylan and what a waste that was, he came out with Keith Richards and Ron Wood and all three looked stoned. oh well, I remember Sir Paul, who wasnt then but is now, awsome show world wide, shame the same intent wasnt placed on the one last year.

anyways here another so your brains dont freeze and thanks RM for to great lists

1) You're struttin' into town like you're slingin' a gun, Just a small-town dude with big city attitude

2) I've belong, a long way from here, Put on a poncho, played for mosquitos and drank til I was thirsty again

3) A winters day, in a deep and dark december, I am alone.

4) Is this the real life, is this just fantasy, caught in a landslilde

5) I heard about a person who had a broken heart, with nothing to drive him on, no hope, no spark, no flame.

6) I keep a close watch on this heart of mine, I keep my eyes wide open all the time.

7) Theres a hero, if you look inside your heart, you dont have to be afraid of what you are.

8) You should have seen me with the pokerman, I had a honey and I bet a grand, just the nick of time I looked at his hand.

9) Late at night I close my eyes, and think how things could have been, and when I look back I remember some words you said to me, its better to have lost at love than to never have loved at all.

10) I went to the crossroads, bent down on my knee, Asked the Lord above, have mercy now, Save poor Bob if you please

have fun peoples

2)If it makes you happy Sheryl Crow

4)Bohemian Rhapsody Queen

10)Crossroads The Cream ...although, I always thought it was: ask the Lord above for mercy, hear me if you please! What the hell do I know - half my life I thought the CCR song, Bad Moon on the Rise was there's a bathroom on the right! OK, I'll scurry back in my cave again!

Number 3 is "I Am A Rock" by Simon & Garfunkel

I was going to jump in with Robert Johnson but you beat me to it.
