Germany look early favourites to me. I thought they were clever saying they weren't going to win the cup beforehand thus taking pressure off them, unlike England who heap pressure on themselves by talking themselves up.

Maybe so, but a Germany team that can put the ball in the net is going to be a serious contender. They are always solid but not potent enough to stay with offensive juggernauts like Brazil for 90 minutes, so if they have the ability to average 2+ GPG they should go far.

Uh...I know you are 5-6 hours ahead of me, but isn't it still too early to be that drunk over there?? The Dutch will make it out of their Group but lose their first elimination game.

Holland 3 - 1 Denmark
Cameroon 2 - 1 Japan
Italy 3 - 0 Paraguay

Hah! I think Holland have a lot of players in coming into great form at the right time (Van Persie, Robben, Sneijder) and as every team isn't perfect, why not? Who do you think will lift the trophy?

I admit I have no flipping clue this year. It is completely wide open, so in all seriousness Holland has as good a chance as any. I just don't think they have the 'presence' to win a big game on the world's biggest stage. I could be wrong.

For me, when the field is wide open you will have some big upsets - at least one big name team (England? France?) will shockingly not get out of the group stage. But eventually when all else is equal, historical stereotypes will take over, if only because they are rein**** in the heads of the players for all teams.

I think the USA shocks Germany in the QF after winning Group C and getting a weaker opponent in the Rof16 than expected, thus getting their feet underneath them before playing Germany this time around.

After that I think historical form holds, so semifinals:

Argentina over USA 3-2
Brazil over Italy 4-1

with Brazil over Argentina 5-1 in the Final. Brazil will get stronger with each round, while Argentina will be beat up after a rough game against the USA that will be far tighter than anyone expects.

Of course, if the dirty play by England (how shocking that there was not call against the favorite) resulted in broken ribs for Howard instead of "just" a soft tissue injury, then probably Germany is there in the SF and that changes everything, with Germany beating Argentina (2-1) in the SF and then going down to Brazil 3-2 in a much tighter, far more entertaining final.

So I have no clue...but there are my very specific predictions. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Australia wasn't that bad, they had at least two good chances at the beginning, too bad there were only 10 players at the end.
The german youngsters were having a lot of fun and it looks like Ballack isn't really needed anymore, let's hope they don't loose faith when things get rougher.

yes loui you are right. Ballack ist too old. even chelsea dont need him anymore ! the young players are hot to play but they have no experience.
