Yeah, after two hours of running and struggling is the best way to decide. It is about skill and nerve.

That said though, Uruguay should be remembered they got through by cheating. I don't think Suarez will be going to his holidays in Ghana anytime soon.

Yes, that was kind of low from Suarez. As low as Henry scoring agaisnt Ireland. But i'm sure Suarez is a national hero by now.

he will also be a hero in Uruguay right now.....

I don't know how handball is a part of football. He cheated. 99% of other footballers would have done the same thing, but he still cheated. Suarez could have attempted to head the ball, but he had his hands up beforehand.

He did everything he could to keep the ball out of the net.. I agree, but he did that through cheating.

It definately is cheating to me. If it wouldn't have been cheating, he wouldn't have gotten a punishment.
I mean, come on.. if he had played by the rules, Ghana would have been through 100% sure. My sympathy for Suarez has surely dropped.

BY THE RULES..... THe referee showed a lot yellow cards for uruguayans... but he did not do the same in several fouls commited by the players of Ghana.
Once more... during de 90 minutes he should punish Ghana with a penalty shoot....but he did not.....

IMHO the rule should be: if a player prevents a goal with hand on the line
intentionally, the goal must count automatically, and not by a 50% penalty
shoot chance. FIFA, a rule change is in order! Confused

there used to be no punishment for an intentional handball, even on the line to stop a goal....it was just a penalty......everybody who has played the game has tried to get away with a handball at one time or another (including myself), occasionally, it suceeds (see Thierry Henry)....the cheating I would prefer to see stopped is the diving, the simulation, trying to get fellow professionals sent off......I can still remember the days when we could tackle without getting carded.....

What about if a referee did not punish with a penalty shoot by a foul commited by a player.....What should FIFA do then?

Nothing. The current rules are sufficient for things like these. We're not talking about punishments after the game. We're talking about measures taken at the very moment a player stops a 100% goal with his hands.
I'm not sure if waldimo's rule would work, but you can't compare your situation with the case we were discussing.
However, I do think video assistance for referees would be a good addition.

Very unlucky on Ghana, but the rule of deliberate handball stopping a sure goal, punished by red card offender and penalty to victim side seems ok to me. Ghana still had the dead ball chance to make them pay, and a couple of inches lower on another day and it was Ghana through. Lady luck plays her part. Sometimes its just not meant to be.
I like to see a goal as the ball crossing the line tbh and goaline technology is what we need to look at first if anything.

Punishing players and extra suspension after for deliberate cheating is another thing. Diving is still something else that is more damaging imo..

Personally I disagree.

It is a part of the game, and Suarez was penalized for it. Many times hand balls in the box are not going to result in goals, and just like the awful officiating at times, its a part of the game.

Unfortunately for Ghana it ended their run. FIFA is above changing their rules because they have that authority over the sport. Sad fact, but true. Its raw futbol and it sometimes isn't fair.

My heart goes out to Gyan and Ghana as a nation.

I feel for Ghana too. It was unfortunate though that Suarez had marred the game by blocking the ball with his hands. Still massive props to both teams for a tremendous show of football.
