Mine was ready to finish anyway, I just couldn't get back in for a while. Thankfully Sri Krumble came and hooked us up after your bump.

1. Tori Amos - Silent All These Years (nice one) The Dewey Evans fan.
(I was going to do Icicle)
"So you found a girl
Who thinks really deep thoughts
What's so amazing about really deep thoughts
Boy you best pray that I bleed real soon
How's that thought for you?"

2. Rhiannon - Fleetwood Mac (written and performed by Stevie Ni-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-i-cks)
Ramblin'
"She is like a cat in the dark
and then she is the darkness
she rules her life like a fine skylark
and when the sky is starless
All your life you've never seen
woman taken by the wind
Would you stay if she promised you heaven?
will you ever win?
Will you ever win?"

3. Here's Where The Story Ends -
(RM missed the bands gname! Shocked )1/2 to the Son of a Gambling Man
I always felt the song was very Lennonesque - ala You've Got Hide Your Love...
"Places I go, people I gknow
make me feel so tired..."
"Hear I stand, head in hand
turn my face to the wall" The meter is similiar & what they are singing about, as well....though, Harriet adds a female touch

"It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes my eyes feel sore
Oh I never should have said the books that you read
Were all I loved you for
It's that little souvenir of a terrible year
Which makes me wonder why
And it's the memories of the shed that make me turn red
Surprise, surprise, surprise"

4. (These are the complete lyrics)
"Write me a letter a face in the hall
hiding from someone afraid of the fall
and she's waiting for someone to take her back to where she came from
and she'll wait alone for hours she won't mind because there's someone
in the story she remembers she remembers in the letter
and the tears locked up inside her make her heart break open wider
shuts her eyes and takes the picture from the wall "

5. (hint - you're probably more familiar with her solo stuff)
"She lives in this house over there
Has her world outside it
Scrapples in the earth with her fingers and her mouth
She's five years old

Thread worms on a string
Keeps spiders in her pocket
Collects fly wings in a jar
Scrubs horse flies
And pinches them on a line
Ohhh... "

6. Mazzy Star - Fade Into You
Billy, the gnaughty boy.
"I wanna hold the hand inside you
I wanna take the breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life, you go in shadow
You'll come upon and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Close your eyes with what's not there"

7. I am stretched out on your grave - Sinead O'Connor.
Ramblin'
(I agree with your assessment of the lovely Sinead - oh, and, RM, this forum does gnot want what it doesn't have, because it has you! Wink )
"The priests and the friars
Approach me in dread
Because I still love you
My love and your dead
I still would be your shelter
Through rain and through storm
And with you in your cold grave
I cannot sleep warm."

8.
(These are the complete lyrics)
"There are no words to say
No words to convey
This feeling inside I have for you
Deep in my heart
Safe from the guards
Of intellect and reason
Leaving me at a loss
For words to express my feelings
Deep in my heart
Look at me losing control
Thinking I had hold
But with feelings this strong
I'm no longer the master
Of my emotions."

9. Edie Brickell & New Bohemians - Air of December
Billy
(a great cd - with great songs and excellent musicians - great drumming!)
"Thursday afternoon
You cast a shadow 'round my room.
The breeze moved the curtains,
and lifted my perfume into the air,
and danced with lazy curls in your hair.
The sun was in the sky like pink champagne,
and it glistened in your eyes all day."

10. Joey, Concrete Blonde
- 1/2 to Braxy & 1/2 to Ramblin' for Johnette Nepolitano
(They released a live version of this song that will tear your heart out.)
"...baby, dont get crazy
Detours...fences...I get defensive
I know you've heard it all before -
So I don't say it anymore
I just stand by and watch you
Fight your secret war.
Although I used to wonder why -
I used to cry till I was dry.
Still sometimes I get a strange pain inside..."

Gawd, what the hell was I drinking that day? Must have been some potent hooch!

The band is of course The Sundays, not The Story as I originally wrote. The only thing I can reckon is that I was listening to some Jonatha Brooke, and she begain her career in a duet from Boston called "The Story", a very folksy light-rocksy talented college-circuit act (sort of Boston's answer to the Indigo Girls)(and less Lesbian) from the mid-80s into the 90s. Great stuff, check 'em out if that's your thang, especially if you like Jonatha Brooke like I do. "So Much Mine" is probably their most famous song.

While I'm here I'll snag ...

#8. For You - Tracy Chapman.
Last track on her awesome 1988 debut album. Very intense and passionate, though in a subdued way on that song ... you've surprised me again Lord Krumble, wouldn't have thought that she'd be your thing at all. I liked her first few albums, and have some amazing meaningful memories of New Zealand and her second album (long story involving Wanaka))(big surprise).

Still no clue on #5, and Only You might know #4. Wink

Good job, Ramblin'. Yeah, you are right, these are all from the late 80's and early 90's...didn't mean to do that - I just like alot of the music wimmen' were putting out during that great time for music. Sadly, me thinks I might have killed this thread with a list of all women! Shocked

Sorry, RM & S_D...please, carry on!

Impossible! If anything you took it to another level. The difference b/w your average male singer/band leader and the average female equivalent? The girl's lyrics have actual meaning, while the guy's are just drivel. And has anyone not had enough of nerdy male lead singers/guitarists pretending that the mic/guitar is the penis they wish they had??

Kurt had it so right - most male rockers are no different than the rednecks he hated to see enjoying his music. Like him, given the choice I would rather hear a woman (if she's hotter than fuck like Amy Lee that's a totally awesome bonus) singing/playing music than a guy 99 times out of 100.

And I hate to admit this, but when I saw your recap with credits, I was confused/pissed that "Dewey Evans fan" stole my glory. Until I put down the crack pipe. I had the mother of all man-crushes on him when I was a little k1d. Nobody ever had an arm in the outfield like him, and we always sat in right field when we went to Fenway. D-ooooooooooooooooo-E. Though they are commonplace now, that was quite possibly the first cheer-that-sounds-like-a-boo in sports history...

Now now Grimblus, ya'll just calm down there. That was a great set, thanks again for it! We're just not getting enough participation in here, too many people getting lost wandering in the pRon sections. Understandably, of course. Very Happy

Yeah I did know #4, my "only you" comment was meant to be a hint to anyone else, as that was their biggest hit here I reckon. Yaz was known as "Ya****" outside of the USA, by the way. Can't remember why.

Had no clue on the birthday song. Now if I *heard* it, yep, as Bjork has a very distinctive voice, hmmm. And I will have to check out that album you mention, thanks for the heads up mi amigo! Cool

The Stevie Ni-i-i-i-i-i-i-icks sketch I found online a long time ago, was probably made sometime after the famous South Park episode where she was compared to a Goat as well. I have no such talents, trust me. If I do something like that, it ends up like this, which is probably posted back in this thread too:

Guess we need a new set, yes? Anyone? If not, I'll whip up something in a bit. Doesn't have to be 10 songs folks, could be less, more, what-evuh.

Hey, RM, kinda figured you gknew the Yaz one - but is there anything about music ya don't gknow?!

Yes, if you like Bjork, the Sugarcubes first cd, Life's Good, is a must have. One of the best to come outta the 80's, imhgo. It's rocks out at times, and Bjorks voice is amazing. There is a guy that sings, as well, and he gets irritating at times, but gnot enough to kill this great cd. If you want, I'll try and scare it up, and see if I can post it over at LePh's place.
