Just curious if there are any MMA/UFC fans around. Thought I'd start a friendly MMA related thread. Please, no attacking each other, none of that "wtf are thinking, do you train" bullshit, you can get plenty of that at any MMA board. I'm no fighter, trainer or coach. High School wrestling and a torn ACL after two weeks of Judo adds up to my fighting experience. Well, that's not exactly true, Chris Walker gave me a bloody nose in the 3rd grade so I bashed his head with my Flintstones lunch pale.

UFC 92 fight card is as follows:
-Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Frank Mir
-Forrest Griffin vs. Rashad Evans
-Quinton Jackson vs. Wanderlei Silva
-Mustapha Al-Turk vs. Cheick Kongo
-C.B. Dollaway vs. Mike Massenzio

Personally, I'm looking forward to the "Rampage" vs. "The Axe Murderer" match up. I know they fought twice in Pride and Wanderlei almost killed him, but that was the ring. The cage is different and they normally won't stand fighters up as easily in the UFC. I think Quinton can take him down, (Wand has only stopped one takedown in his career) and ground and pound his way to a ref stoppage.

Cant wait for the ppv. IMO if Forrest beats Rashad it'll be an even bigger upset than when he beat Rampage.

Not that I wouldnt love him to pull it off. I agree that Rampage has a much better chance of beating Silva this time around. It is weird that he's being made favourite considering their history tho.

I'm not much of a Mir fan, but I am a Brock Lesnar fan, so even tho I'd like to see Nogueira kill Mir, I dont see Brock being able to kill Nogueira, so I gues I hope Mir wins that one. Mir got lucky the first time he fought Brock, he was getting mullered on his feet and while he was on his back.

Yeah, Werewolf, Mir may have gotten lucky submitting Lesnar, but that really is the whole point of MMA - ya gotta be on your game the whole match, or it can be lights out in a second. Btw, I heard that Randy Couture's (how tha hell do you spell his gname?!) head was bouncing on the ground... Evil or Very Mad Randy is the greatest - period. Don't really like Lesnar, but he is an insane threat - he's big, brutal, and fast as hell. Shocked

Rampage will win. Speaking of Pride - didn't he beat Liddell twice in Pride? Ya gotta love Chuck, but he's lost more than a few times. Laughing Laughing Laughing

Mir will beat Nogueira.

And Forrest will beat Evans.

...imhgo.

I am of the opinion that Mir would never have gotten off his back if the ref hadnt stood them up after Brock supposedly hit him to the back of the head. The chances of that happening again are very slim imo. Very Happy

It's probably moot point anyway as Noguiera is probably gonna take the shizzle out of Mir.

Rampage beat Chuck once in Pride and once in the UFC. Chuck has lost 3 of his last 4 fights.

I wouldnt put it past Forrest pulling off the upset (again) but its about time people starting taking Rashad seriously, I've been a huge fan of his since TUF & predicted his rise to the Light Heavyweight title a few years ago, its about time he made me look clever. Very Happy

On the Mir/Nog match up, I"m not sure Nog will take this one. I have a feeling Mir will use his wrestling skills and take Nog down for some GnP. I hope that fight turns into a Cummo/STevenson or Buscape/Azeredo ground war.

Forrest and Rashad, I don't know who to pick, but this might be the fight of the night. I've learned never to count Forrest out, learned that the expensive way, and Rashad continues to improve every fight. I'm picking Forrest in an all out war.

Hey Grimble, if you search around you should be able to find the full Rampage/Chuck fight in Pride. It's one of the best fights in MMA history.

That depends on Mir's condition. He's had a habbit of coming into fights in bad shape and getting tired. And Noguiera is the WORST dude for that to happen againts. Noone stops Noguiera, not even Fedor. I dont see Mir being able to last for 5 rounds without Noguiera catching up with him.

I think Forrest will end up on his back before too long and get hammered down there for aslong as Rashad wants to. Rashad is also a much more elusive and faster striker than Rampage, Jardine, or Shogun and could easily catch Forrest and knock him out on their feet too.

So my picks are:

Noguiera over Mir.
Rashad over Forrest.
Rampage over Silva.

I think I may be the only guy here who likes the axe murderer over Rampage. While the cage vs ring will make a difference, I think Silva has figured out how to fight in the cage and should be fine against Rampage. Silva also seems focused again while Rampage in his last fight, not so much.

On a side note, this is no bullshit, I met Rampage once at Eggs and Things in Waikiki. He was still fighting in PRIDE at the time and was on vacation. It was about 2:30AM, he was with some Japanese tourist, I think they must have just left the WAVE nightclub. Sad that both places have since closed down. I liked the WAVE and loved eating at Eggs and Things.

How was he? He seems pretty cool with his fans. Back in the day in about 2002 he gave his cell number out on a message board. If you check around you can find vids of him in Japan, that is funny shit!

I assume you're from Hawaii? Ever run into BJ Penn or Charuto?

He was pretty cool actually. One of my friends knew his former trainers and that's why he acknowledged us. I always thought he would look a lot bigger but I guess he does fight at 205, probably walks around at 225. Never met BJ, he lives on the Big Island, I'm on Oahu. Watched Charuto fight once at either a rumble on the rock or Icon sport, but this was much later in his career.

I've met Rampage aswell, along with a bunch of others. At the UFC 75 weigh-ins in London. I went to the weigh-ins and the event the next day. Was bad ass.

I'm still backing BJ over GSP. I know GSP beat him the last time, but it was very close and imo the only reason BJ lost was because he ran out of steam. (its been the only reason he's ever lost imo). I guess its similar to the Mir - Noguiera fight, depends what kinda shape BJ comes in at.
Cant wait for it tho.

I like BJ too in this fight, but I gotta give GSP credit, he looks like one of the best around at the moment. It will be a good fight.

The Ultimate Fighter Finale this week & Ultimate Fight Night Live. Should be good.

Glad that little prick Junie lost his fight last week. He's on the finale card tho.

Dont suppose anyone watched K1 GP 2008 Finals? was very good, a few nice KO's.

Kimbo Slice was apart of the commentary team, supposedly set to sign with them.

I heard Kimbo is joining K1, missed the event though. Good to see he landed on his feet. The man has talent, he just needs time to bring it all together.

YES, it was great to see Juine lose.

Bit disappointed with Kimbo's fight against Petruzelli.

Kimbo would be such a better fighter if he worked on his cardio- not that cardio had anything to do with that fight...
