Any UFC fans still around? I'm really looking forward to the Shogun/Machida match. I think Shogun is gonna go out the same way thiago did. With his lights turned off.

Big fan here! Cool
Like Joe Rogan said after Machidas win over Rashad Evans: "Welcome to the Machida era!". It's going to be as hard or even harder for most fighters to adopt to Machidas way of fighting as it's nearly impossible to adopt to Anderson Silvas style. I always liked Machidas style although it was kind of unspectacular but the fight against Rashad Evans was fun to watch! I hope and think that we will see Machida defending his title more than once.

By the way: Yesterday I found a great video interview with Forrest Griffin who I love as a fighter (first interview after his embarrassing loss to Anderson Silva). Forrest was bitchy during the complete interview so I really had to laugh as Forrest told the TV host something boring about his current workout like using the stairmaster or jogging...
Forrest: "I like to jog... actually I'm god at jogging..."
TV host: "I noticed that after your fight with Anderson Silva!"
Laughing Laughing Laughing

btw... This evening Kimbo Slice fights on TUF! Cool

Well, I don't want to spoil the result in case somebody didn't watch yesterdays fight - But Kimbo once again showed his weaknesses against a hardly dangerous opponent! But one thing is for sure: Dana White is going to milk Kimbo and we are going to see much more of Kimbo in the UFC regardless if there are much better fighters than him on TUF! Well... that's ok with me! I like the top level fights as much as I like the fights including big names with fighters that are long past their prime! (I would watch Randy Couture even if he continues to fight until he is 75 years old!) Cool

Randy may very well fight until he is 75 at the rate he is going. I feel really bad for Forrest after the Anderson Silva fight. He was basically put in there to force the issue because well Anderson's last few opponents wouldn't. And we know how that ended up. I also agree that I don't see Machida losing anytime soon. His footwork and distancing is phenominal. So hard to hit and yet always in the right spot for a counter punch. BTW being from Hawaii, I'm a huge BJ Penn fan, regardless of how polarizing he is.

Hi mucwong!

Good to see another UFC fan around here - and you also seem to be a big Randy Couture fan like me! Smile

I absolutely agree on Forrest and his fight with Anderson Silva. This was a huge loss which might have damaged his career significantly. I consider Forrest to be one of the top light heavyweights with the biggest heart of them all - but this time he looked like he fought for the first time in his life! I'm very interested to see how and if the UFC will build up Forrest again!

Although I'm not from Hawaii (unfortunately not even close! Wink ) I'm a BJ Penn fan. It was good to see him in great shape again in the Florian fight after his demoralizing loss to GSP. BJ is a sensitive artist from my point and if he had lost his belt to Florian?! ... I don't even want to think about it!

What about the new TUF season? Like the last season where I became a fan of Hendo (although I liked Bisping more in the beginning) this time I'm somehow disappointed of Rampage Jackson and start to become a fan of Rashad Evans. At least on TV it seems that Rashad is the better coach but I can imagine how pi.... off Dana was when Rampage told him that he would leave the UFC. So I won't be surprised if TUF shows Rampage in the worst light possible!
Wink

Update: Yahoo sports reports that Forrest Griffin will fight Tito Ortiz at UFC 106. Well, good for Forrest to step back into the ring again - but as a replacement for 97 year old (rough estimation!) Mark Coleman against Tito Ortiz who fights for the first time in the UFC again after his back surgery?! Rolling Eyes

I've met Rampage once in Hawaii, at Eggs and Things, it was about 3 in the morning. He is an acquaintance of a friend of mine. This was when he was still fighting in Pride and not the UFC. Funny though, he was sitting down at the time and he didn't seem as big as he does on TV. Anywho, what are your thoughts on the Machida vs Shogun fight? I think it will be a good one, though I don't think Shogun is back to where he was in his Pride days.

As for Forrest, I think he has the heart of a champion but he is getting a lot of breaks from being Dana's boy. And I still can't stand Rashad Evans, never could.

BJ will be fine. Diego is going down.

Sorry for replying that late but I was on vacation for two weeks...

It's funny that you think Rampage doesn't look big in reality because I thought the same thing during his staredown with Darrill Schoonover on the latest TUF episode.... except for his head which is huge!!!
Btw what is wrong with Rampage that he leaves his fighters alone after they loose their fights? That's so disrespectful!

What do you think about Machida winning against Shogun? To be honest I thought Shogun was winning the fight and from what I read most of the reporters in attendance + Dana White thought the same. I was really surprised that Shogun was able to adopt that good to Machidas style and I can't wait for the rematch! I don't think Shogun is as good as he was during Pride but he improved in every UFC fight so far!

I absolutely agree on the BJ Penn vs. Diego Sanchez fight. A focused BJ is very hard to beat!

But currently I'm looking forward to the Couture vs. Vera fight in November. Hopefully Randy wins so he can take a shot at the light heavyweight title in the future! Cool

Well, the old man won the fight and he imposed his will on Vera - but to be honest I wasn't impressed that much. Don't get me wrong: As stated above I'm a huge Couture fan. Maybe if Couture and Vera had to bang for two more rounds the fight would have been as exciting to watch as the conditional strength and will would have been the key factors. It will be interesting to see if Randy gets another shot at the light heavyweight title in the (near) future with this performance...

Did anybody see UFC 106?
For me - like Randy Couture - Tito Ortiz is one of the faces of the UFC. Therefore I was glad that Tito and Dana made up. But looking at Titos' fight against Forrest Griffin I doubt that that Tito will be scheduled for many more fights in the future. Maybe he can fight some other big names that passed their prime somewhere outside the US to attract public that only knows big names (like Marc Coleman). But Tito fighting for the title somewhere in the near future? I don't think so... By the way: I wasn't impressed by Forrest Griffin as well but he looked extremely good against a tired Tito.

For me the biggest fight of the evening was put on by Josh Koscheck! Whether you like him or not: He showed everything that you need to become a future champion and although I like Dan Hardy I think both Josh and GSP would kick Dan's ass!

I hope nobody is bored by my endless posts containing no nudity at all! Laughing

I don't think GSP would have a problem with Hardy or Koscheck, but they're probably only giving Hardy a shot because GSP is coming off an injury.

I'm sure Tito will fight Forrest one more time and probably Couture too. I don't think he's much of a threat to hold the belt though.

Belfort vs. Silva is probably the fight that interests me the most on the schedule.

You might be right. After GSP's injury Dan Hardy might be an easier opponent than Josh Koscheck. Nevertheless I hope Koscheck will be the next in line because I was really impressed by his quick hands in his last fights. If you get hit by one of those the lights go out immediately.

Well, don't get me wrong but I hope this will not happen that soon because I think the fight wasn't hat entertaining. As I stated before I thought Tito would be in a better shape but in the end he once again found excuses for his performance. Although I must admit that I noticed even before the fight started that something was wrong with Titos face. If you can get hold of a copy of the fight look at the time the judge puts on Vaseline on Titos black eye. He immediately pulled the head away like he was in pain... Sad thing is that after a loss nobody will ask for the reasons...

This one is going to be huge! I was sure that Griffin would get Silva into trouble like I thought Franklin would give Belfort a hard time. Man, I was so wrong! Laughing Now I can't wait for UFC 109! By the way I just read that Silva plans to retire after his UFC contract of 6 fights is fulfilled. So we have 3 more fights until his retirement at the age of 35...
And we will have plenty more fights after he returned to the UFC at the age of 36! Wink

Sorry I have been a way for a while and haven't been keeping up with this. I watched the Couture v Vera fight and was completely underwhelmed by them both. GSP will run through Hardy in my opinion even though I can't stand GSP and BJ by whatever he wants this weekend.
