Do the officials have to pass an eye exam? I guess not. Late in extra time, the Netherlands had a free kick deep in Spain's territory. It clearly was deflected by the Spanish wall out of bounds and should have been a Dutch corner. But the refs awarded a goal kick and soon afterward Spain scored. If the Dutch had the corner, what would have happened? I don't know, but again a colossal blunder by visually impaired officials had a major impact on the game. Maybe Spain still would have scored. Maybe the Dutch would have scored on the corner. FIFA needs to fix their officiating mess. It's an embarrassment when so many games have been affected by atrocious officiating. Bad calls happen in sports, but not every second game like this World Cup.

Congratulations Spain.....!
A few remarks:
- The ref was close to blind at times, choose not to see some Spanish fools and withhold the Netherlands a corner)
-The Dutch played (way to) hard (De jong's yellow was red. Period), unlike their normal game play. Im not sure what came over them.

But most important:
-The best team won.

To make sure immaturity will not kill the good purpose of this thread; does anyone have any visual impressions of Spanish celebrating the cup? I mean the squares in Madrid, Barcelona? Would be good to see..

I agree, the stronger and faster team did win on that day won. I just have a few questions, was this Bert van Marwijks big plan on how to win against Spain he was talking about?
Looked like the same plan Germany had, to not pressure Spain and let them into your half then put pressure on the ball... well that worked. NOT

I wont point fingers even if I was hoping for the Netherlands. But that Howard Webb, did you hear his wife talk about him and what she said ?
"He cant even control his own **** at home, I wonder how he does his job"
Point is he doesn't ! The best of the worst referees Webb was once called.
All I will say is if he would have called the game by the book two things would have happened. One the Netherlands might have got beat worse or two I know for sure a yellow card would have been handed out for that blatant hold and undressing of Robben that took place.
Why do you think other officials are now banding around Howard Webb now. FIFA has to keep up appearances of including all nations as possible referees good or bad at it.

No matter, Im still a proud Oranje till the day I die Cool

Even though I consider myself a Oranje-fan as well, I don't think we are in the position to question yellow cards that were or were not given to Spanish players. With the K1-kick De Jong delivered, I think we should have been playing with ten players in the first half already Rolling Eyes.

Sorry if you missed my point. If Webb would have red carded De Jong as he should have and called a cleaner game things might have been different. You play at what you can get away with if you know what I mean.
I know we watched the same game and it wasn't the prettiest world cups on the Netherlands behalf I will agree. Most that watched the game live on big screens in Amsterdam I know said the same as me, didn't look like our team from past games.

My only point was Spain's skill added with Webb's incompetence to keep control of the game didn't help the Netherlands and got into our heads nothing more.

Spain did play a much better skilled game no question & did deserve the win

Sorry for the delay, I have been partying

An estimated 300,000 people forming a sea of red and yellow packed Madrid's downtown Paseo de Recoletos boulevard to watch the final from Johannesburg on giant TV screens and erupted at the final whistle as Spain became world and European champions.
