Next 1996 set!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

You didn't really think I'd write ALL that and then only have one set waiting, did you? Rolling Eyes

Dum dah-dum dum dum dum dum dah-dah-dum, HEEYYYY, Macarena!

Should be a mite bit harder, I reckon. C'mon now fellers, cowboy up!

1.
Tommy played piano like a kiid out in the rain
Then he lost his leg in Dallas
He was dancin' with a train
They were all in love with dyin'

2.
The sea is a very easy place to disappear
Drift away
Fall asleep
Make your peace
I came out here tonight to look for my friend
I don't know if I'll ever get to see him again

3.
I'm the trouble starter, punkin' instigator.
I'm the fear addicted and danger illustrated.

4.
To all those people doing lines
don't do it, don't do it
Inject your soul with liberty
it's free, it's free
To all the kiids with heroin eyes
don't do it, don't do it

5.
Tied to a wheel, my fingers got to feel
Bleeding through a tourniquet smile
I spin on a whim, I slide to the right
I felt you like electric light

6.
I only smile in the dark
My only comfort is the night gone black
I didn't get knocked down I'll tell you that

7.
Now all I wanna do is to exit
So I go to where I can get off
On a curve, through the shoulder
There's no parking in that trough
So I drive around all day
Combing atmospheric haze
Till I wanna get on again

8.
Must have been mid-afternoon
I could tell by how far the chiild's shadow stretched out and
He walked with a purpose
In his sneakers, down the street
He had, many questions
Like chilldren often do

9.
I think if you're ready to go out with Johnny
Now's the time to tell him about your one month limit
He wont mind, he'll apreciate your fresh look on dating
And once you've dated someone else you can date him again
I'm sure he'll like it

10.
And I'm thinking what a mess we're in
Hard to know where to begin
If I could slip the sickly ties that earthly man has made
And now every mother, can choose the color
Of her chiild
That's not natures way

11. (dedicated to Bobrysl)
She came from Greece she had a thirst for knowledge
she studied sculpture at St Martin's college
that's where I
caught her eye
She told me that her Dad was loaded
I said "In that case I'll have rum and coca-cola."
she said "Fine"

Smoke 'em if you got 'em.

Papa Cassandrova and I have this thing about mentioning Tales from Topographic Oceans in multiple posts. Laughing Anyway I wasn't serious at all about them doing it on TV, just being silly. You know me -- I'm a Bill Bruford fan, and am more appreciative of Yes's early work. Alan White was/is not even half of the drummer that BB was, IMHRO. Shocked

Actually not so silly...

(I'm currently suffering lots of flashbacks to my youth as a result of being **** to remember minutiae about Davd Essex, so you'll have to indulge me LOL)

I do remember sometime in the mid-1970s sitting and watching a Yes concert live on British television. Anyway the gig climaxed with them performing Ritual from Topographic Oceans, with lots of lasers and dry ice and all these Roger Dean sculptures rising up out of the stage.

And you are absolutely right about Bruford. One of the few rock drummers able to combine massive power and extreme delicacy at the drop of a cymbal.

how can we have a 1996 set when this is still the eighties?

Gotta disagree with both the Ramblin' One and Cassandrova - while Bill bruford was an excellent drummer, he was really a product of his time - many drummers were playing in that style back then. A great drummer, no doubt, but a bit too frenetic for my tastes. And he was/is a musical snob. Alan White, on the other hand, transcends his time! He can adapt to any kind of music. From pop to progressive, he mastered it all. Listen to him play on live versions of Ritual, or on the intro to Changes or the cascading ebb and flow of Cinema... Besides, John Lennon would never have chosen Bruford for Imagine. Laughing

So good, so far, laddies. Good to see ESTEBAN gettin' a few, although he's going to be a bit embarrassed unless he chimes in and gets #4 ... and that right soon. Twisted Evil

Anywho the following are still available. Admittedly 7, 8, & 9 were more popular in the US, but let's get with the program people! Very Happy

(hint) the above is not exactly "sung" in the song.

10. title?

Welllll ... I'm not really a big opera fan. That said, The Marriage of Figaro in '86 was pretty impressive. And Don Giovanni in '87 was a pretty darn good follow-up. I actually prefer some of Mozart's piano concertos from a few years earlier ('82 - '84). Oh, wait, you were talking about the 1780's, weren't you? I know you're like 2400+ years old, so maybe I should have checked first.

Regarding Rock Drummers and Bill Bruford and Alan White, well we do have varying opinions, and since Gnome actually plays the drums, I trust his opinion more than my unknowledgable own. Embarassed Cass makes a great point as well though, so in conclusion, let me just say that both of them -- White and Bruford -- still could never hold a candle to the God of the Rock Skins, that amazing banger from Canadia, ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Neil Ellwood Peart! Shocked Cool

RM

p.s. Papa Cass, I only meant that I was just being silly, not the actual discussion about Yes and TFTO. Sorry mate, should have clarified that, but you know us Americans -- our English isn't too good. Wink

Yeah as crazy_chicken pointed out number 10. is a Jamiroquai song. The title is Virtual Insanity. Why didn't you go for the kill and finish it crazy_chicken? Laughing (hmmm I think I am doing so badly at this game that he feels sorry for me and gave me the artist so I could finish and get the point for the full title Embarassed Rolling Eyes Laughing )

Number 4. I am embarrassed to say I had to google just now (sorry RM) and yes I am kicking myself (although not to hard as I am not a huge fan of theirs).

Okay I'm closing down this set now. I do have another final one from 1996, but frankly I'm a bit bored too now with it, so perhaps someone else could post a set and revive the energy? Maybe some older songs which gets different responders in here? Someone else? Maybe someone who has recently retired from other forum responsibilities? Laughing Laughing

But I'll post it if no one else does anything within a few days. Rolling Eyes Laughing

Anyway here's the official list of answers. Esteban got a fair amount of them, Crazy Chicken got the rest, way to go fellers. Congratulations, blah blah blah.

Laughing Cool Laughing Cool Laughing
