Instead of using rapidshare, I was thinking of putting files names on here that members can download through a torrent service such as bitlord. That way they don't have to wait for each file to download individually and then reset thier modem to go to the next file. I can't find any rule that says we can't do that here. Is it okay?

Hi Cosmo76.

Sorry, but torrents aren't allowed here (rule no.3):

Arrow Rules

3. Do not post or exchange by private message any images or download links using any image hosting, file sharing or link protection site other than those permitted at Forumophilia or share material using any form of torrent or similar file sharing programs.

There's been a lot of talk about torrents around boards lately. With Rapidshare pulling their new download limit bullshit, that may be an option.

I've never played with torrents, but may have to try. I've been using emule for all my p2p needs for a number of years and have been quite happy with it.

Hey Buckethead, Does emule still work? I've tried it a couple times lately but there's just a few servers and I always get low ID's.

Emule works great. I'm on it all the time. If this computer is going then emule is on too. If you're getting a low ID there may be a number of reasons for it. Google something like "low ID on emule" and you'll most likely find an answer to why it's not working for you. It could be something to do with your firewall. As far as servers go, just google "emule servers" and you'll get all kinds of them.

Thanks buckethead. I've no idea what the problem is cause I have the ports of my router open.
You should try using torrents, You get things a lot faster than with emule and there's just an incredible amount of stuff you can dl.

I downloaded yTorrent 1.8.1 and am playing with a bunch of torrents I found on a Japanese hentai board. So far I love what I've seen, but I don't think I'll drop emule. I think I'll use them both. I know emule is great for music, but torrents may be better for movies, especially some of the stranger stuff.

I have to admit, I also wish we could use torrent, I am tired of this rapidshare BS. They erase your stuff at random and the unbearable 15 minute wait on all downloads...
I am weary of megaupload tho too many ads.

I'm all for Torrent sites - there's usually a good culture, you're bound to find something interesting, and I'm sure a lot of our material originates from them; but torrent files are 'shared' in a completely different way that make them totally inappropriate for this kind of forum.

Here's why; a torrent file is shared peer-2-peer. What that means is if someone wants to download it someone else must be willing to upload it. The first time a file goes out the originator must seed it entirely but then another guy also has it and can also seed, and so on and so on.

In order for this kind of sharing to work the members (called peers) commit to upload as much as they download and to monitor this the site employs a tracker. If you fall below a certain ratio you are blocked from downloading anything until you've uploaded enough again.

Check out Torrent sites - everybody should - but it makes no sense for this board.

I completely agree with U Sugarman and because I use torrent everyday and very often it's used for big sized files n ot for file under 300 Mo, it's for full movie or Full applications , I don't think it will add something to a forum like FP . And because you have to seed and upload in both way it's not a good solution here.

that's my opinion

Newsgroups have always been an excellent source of pron. I've always wondered which ones were the best...the one that is available via my ISP is not that great and most of the other newsgroups require $$$.
