Yes the download speed is slower, but if you had bothered to do the math, you'd see that free users can now download more because there are no waiting times between downloads!

If you buy the downloads from a filehoster you have significantly more time to spend in all your other pursuits, only you have 5 less minutes of chat at $2per minute, or 10 less singles to stuff. Much more free time for your other pursuits is worth the expenditure.

There are very few sites where everything is worth watching let alone downloading and once you've picked through the choice bits you have to wait for updates...and on some that's a long wait. On the other hand, each time you go to a rapidshare, it's because it's something you've decided is worth while; kinda like a "Best of" album where you do the choosing. Not only is it dirt cheap, but you get value for every $ spent. I imagine most of us have paid for a membership only to think, "What a waste of money!"
As for putting money in a geek's pocket, I doubt if many, if any, of these models do all their own site management so you're just giving the money to a DIFFERENT geek.

Hmm..it made me get another premium account too,but wtf.
I actually think Megaupload is the biggest crap ever.They promise you the highest download speed as a premium member.Funny,I had the same low speed like a free user.And its for sure not a problem with my ISP,got a fast connection.
It had to come.No doubt about that

i am curious on why everyone is hating on megaupload? not that i love it, but it isn't that bad for free users. i can download very quickly at least as fast as rapidshare free user used to be and the captcha doesn't have the unsolvable riemann hyposthesis. and best they seem to take a long time to delete copyright links.

RS isn't a non-profit institution, it's a business company and wants to make as much money as it can do.

I have a premium rs account as well and the only reason why I bought one was to download more than 1 file at the same time, get rid of the waiting periods, and don't want to solve stupid riddles (cat-dog-horse...you know).
And after sharing some nice gems of my collection I'll get points as a benefit and every third month for free.

And jbsa - what you Megaupload advocates fail to realize is that there seems to be tremendous variability (time of day? geographic location?) in their service. So while it apparently seems great for a few lucky people, be aware that for a lot of other people it is a terrible option.
