But I feel comfortable enough here to share this with you all!

My problem is simply this...I need to figure out how to RAR or ZIP small video files together using either WINRAR or PowerArchiver, so I can stop splitting my videos and posting both parts separately. I know that you put small files into an archive, so when the downloader opens the first one the others unzip as well, and the entire video is there.

I am here asking the experts (you all) because some of you do it daily Very Happy
Anyone wish to give me a tutorial on how this is done, or at least direct me to one?

Thanks in advance. Very Happy

For two files that I want to add to an archive file, I believe that I just right click, and the first rar option is add to archive. Click that, and an archive rar file will be made. A second file that is to be added is done the same way - click add to archive, but use the arrow option in the title box, and your first archive rar title should be there, too. Click that, and the second file should go in the first archive file.

Does that help?

Okay, got it! Very Happy Thnak you. Now I have 1 (one) 200MB RAR/ZIP file with 2 smaller video files to be extracted in it. The problem is that it is 200MBs, and cannot be uploaded to RS. Do I split the large RAR file now, and if so...how?

my bad. Do you have hjsplit or mastersplitter? With hjsplit, I just choose the rar archive and then you have the option of how big you want to split the file. I choose around a 100mb - any bigger and it might come out bigger than 104mb which rs won't except. If you chose 100mb on a 210mb file, it will split it in 3 files - 2x 100mb files and a 10mb file. For a 200mb file it will split it in 2 files.

I have hjsplit, but never knew what it was for Very Happy Let me try splitting the RAR file.

Okay...did it, but the second (smaller) file doesn't open. Getting a CRC error.

When you open a .001 file, they should open together. You just locate the .001 file with hjsplit, and it will automatically join any .002, .003 etc files. Whatever you rar'ed should be in the rar file that was opened with hjsplit.

An example: I have a 200 mb rar file that was created with winrar. So I use hjsplit by clicking the `split' box. The next page to open with have an input box. Click it, and you can browse around your computer to find the rar file. when you find it, click it and it will be in the box that said `unknown' below it I would choose 100mb. I hit start and it will split the files into 2 100mb files, and will look like `blah blah.001' & `blah blah.002' I would then upload them on rs using rapidloader and post them the same way I would a regular avi or mpg... When opening them, I would choose join instead of split, and go to the folder that I dl'ed the `blah blah.001' & `blah blah.002' files. the first blah blah.001 will appear - not the second. Click join, and they will join together automatically, and the result will be the rar file. Then I would unrar them and all the files within the rar will be there.

Did that make sense?

Made perfect sense gnome. I will give it a shot. Thank you for all your help and PATIENCE with me, it is greatly appreciated. The next thing I upload should be
the result of my success! I'm off to bed shortly, so I will give it a shot, and let you know that it worked in the morning. Thanks again.

I thank you too Gnome, I have always known how to join, but never understood the splitting process.

Cool, I'm glad that made sense, cuz I wasn't sure if it did. The first time I split a file, I did it in kb by accident - pretty funny having hundreds of 1kb files! Laughing

Hjsplit is really cool. I use to hate dl'ing 8 seperate files of a vid, and I didn't have a joiner so it kinda sucked. Now I join all my files with EZ Video joiner and split `em - it's better for the dl'er. I don't think alot of members realize how much more of an effort it is to do this (especially before I started using rapidloader) - and only for their benefit, because it's less dl's for them, but also less rs points for me. But ya gotta be cool to the people you consider friends. Cool screenshot

Your an excellent tutor, Master GK.
Still there is another method.
You could as you know split the rar directly which in the end is less timeconsuming.
Both for you as an uploader and for the leeches.
One operation instead of two.

If I'm going to create a rar with several files I would select the files by clicking on them while I hold down the ctrl key.
I would then rightclick on one of the highlighted files.
Choose "Add to archive" from the dropdown menu.
In the archive popup window is an option "Split to archives/volumes"
There you will set the size of the individual parts.
104 857 600 bits creates the maximum 100 MB chunk.
The rest you will setup as usual yungt33nluvr.

Good luck.

That seems like the best way if you have a bunch of small files you want upload together. However, I guess I'm misunderstanding the OP's issu, because the way I read it was that he had 2 100mb that he is combining into a single rar, and then splitting back down to 2 100mb files. That seems like alot of extra work instead of just uploading the original files as-is.

I do agree, however although both parts have to be downloaded separately, once you join them with HJSplit, they (should) "play" as one big 200MB (or whatever size) file.

I'll add this though. For people that want to "check it out" to see if they like the movie/quality/whatever, posting smaller "chunks" that are playable on their own are better. To play all chunks back to back, just put them in a folder and click "play all" and all the parts will play back to back.

I think something is getting lost in the mix here. Putting 2 video files into a rar file will not make them into one video file. A rar file is basically like a suitcase. Whatever you put in is going to come out the exact same way.

In the methods described above you take file "a.wmv" and "b.wmv" and put them into "c.rar". You then hjsplit the file into "c.rar.001" & "c.rar.002", which you upload. I then download "c.rar.001" and "c.rar.002". I then use hjsplit to combine the files which gives me "c.rar" When I extract "c.rar" i will get "a.wmv" and "b.wmv".
