I do agree, however although both parts have to be downloaded separately, once you join them with HJSplit, they (should) "play" as one big 200MB (or whatever size) file.

I think something is getting lost in the mix here. Putting 2 video files into a rar file will not make them into one video file. A rar file is basically like a suitcase. Whatever you put in is going to come out the exact same way.

In the methods described above you take file "a.wmv" and "b.wmv" and put them into "c.rar". You then hjsplit the file into "c.rar.001" & "c.rar.002", which you upload. I then download "c.rar.001" and "c.rar.002". I then use hjsplit to combine the files which gives me "c.rar" When I extract "c.rar" i will get "a.wmv" and "b.wmv".
Yes, you're right...something DID get lost in the mix, and what a MIX it is. I think I misunderstood the concept, as I thought it would turn out as 1 "big/whole" scene. It's easier just posting separate "playable" video files then.

No offense to Gnome, a great tutor to be sure Very Happy

I see people here that have like 3 or 4 100MB RAR files that have to be downloaded as single files, but when you unzip the first one, all the others open as well, and (PRESTO!!!) you now have a playable 400MB video.

Now there are ways of combining a multiple video files before putting it into a rar. One of the better programs IMO for doing this is Biolsoft Video Joiner. The limitation of joining is that the videos have to have the same resolution and audio/video framerate. What kind of files are you trying to join?

I use Boilsoft software to split larger than 100MB video files, and it gives me 2 (or more) files of the same resolution and approximately same size in MBs which is how I am posting my videos now.

Are you splitting them for the sole purpose of posting them?

Because if you have larger files that you are wanting to split into 100mb chunks for posting, you can use winrar for that without having to split the files beforehand.

I thought from your original post that you were starting out with small files that you wanted to join together.

So say you have a 300mb file you want to post, right click on the file (assuming you have a PC) and choose "Add to archive". When the winrar window pops up, in the lower lefthand corner there is a pull-down menu that says "split to volumes, bytes", one of the preset pulldown options is "98,078k-Zip100" which works just fine for Rapidshare etc. (or you can enter an amout in the line if you so choose). Hit "ok" and you will wind up with 3 files that looke like "Filename.part1.rar, Filename.part2.rar, Filename.part3.rar" in 98 meg chunks. Unlike the scenario earlier in the post, this time when the person downloads all 3 parts and extracts them they will have one big file, because that's what you started out with.

Hopefully that's what you were looking for originally. Smile

edit: To see what I'm talking about, check out My Video Post. The last post is a perfect example of the output.

Thank you also to Gnome, who guided me patiently without me explaining clearly what I wanted to do. Shame on me Sad

Here is a step by step tut how I do it with WinRAR.

screenshot
Right click>select "add to archives".

screenshot
GENERAL TAB:Rename the file to hide contents from hosters>set compression to best>set split archives to 100 mb for RS constraints>select "put recovery record">select "lock archive".

screenshot
screenshot
ADVANCED TAB:Select "encrypt file names">type a password then click ok button and your splitting into equal chunks save the last one which will be much smaller than 100mb.
