You could try typing www. in front of rapidshare in the url...this seems to work, although you have to wait for the tcp communication error page to appear.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the workaround. It can be problematic but at least it works.

I hope rapidshare are being candid about trying to fix the problem.

It is entirely possible BT are to blame. They have been bitching about download limits for months. They sell you their service as offering unlimited downloads, then complain when you exceed what they have nominally dubbed a 'reasonable' amount. It's either a fucking unlimited service or it isn't.

I really wouldn't be surprised to hear they are deliberately blocking rapidshare. Sort of shitty trick they would pull.

Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Just some questions to British people suffering these 'ups and downs' with BT ...

  • Is British Telecom the 'only' ISP in the UK? I don't think so.
  • So you'll have (for sure) a number of friends/relatives using the services of another ISP, right?
  • Are they also suffering that hidden blackmailing? If the answer is no, then BT is guilty.

The bottom line ... change your ISP as soon as you can ...

well at least I've had some responsiveness from RS indicating they are progressing the issue ("thanksyou for your understanding"). They asked me to run a trace on the connection to their site and I sent this today and got an immediate aknowledgement. I also connected directly to the site today.

Oh and it is my understanding that pretty well all the lines in the UK are run by BT, with other ISP suppliers simply renting from them so not sure there is any benefit in changing.

i think rapidshare are up to their old tricks of making life difficult for those that haven't paid for their premium service in order make us subscribe and boost their revenue.Have suffered ,like many in the last few days, to get a connection. Now I do get through but each time I am told a variety of reasons why I can't download, including (a) your computer is already downloading from rapidshare (b) you have exceeded your free limit -please try again in "x"minutes(c)you have entered too many wrong codes-please try again-----------all this and I haven't downloaded anything from rapidshare fore 3 days!!!!!!!
Is this taking the piss or what?
