A very useful word is Undutchables. There is a book with this name (can't find my copy otherwise i'd give you the ISBN) with info for people like you. There's also a recruitment agency of the same name specialising in jobs for non-Dutch people.

Do a web search with this word and you'll find some useful info.

Why don't you take vacation over here, and check it out yourself.

I live in the Netherlands, and i really don't understand, why someone will come over here to actually start a new life. oke we are liberal in more ways then any other countries.

there are to many people, and nobody looks at each other, or knows his own neighbor.

there are to many traffic jams, the country is one traffic jam, cause everyone owns more than 2 cars.

our summers are bad, we only got 3 weeks of good weather this year, the rest was rain.

our government sucks, you can compare it with all episodes of the muppetshow.

i can go on forever like this, if i where you, i should stay in the US. or move to the Caribbean. Cause that's my plan.
cause this country is on a collision course and there is no stopping.

It's only natural that you have issues with your home country, tho nothing you explained is any diff than here.........
It's really about someplace different with a broader view of things......

A friend in Rotterdam (few miles from Amsterdam?) has advised some things, but shes also on the lower rung of exsistence so I cant take what she says as factual, as shes just angry alot...LOL

So what about expenses and costs ? Like cigarettes ?.....Can I get ESPN w/satellite ?
Anything besides hate....LOL

Alibi:
I wrote that book info down and will be online or in bookstores tomorrow

cigarettes are very expensive over here, about ESPN, i don't know if you can get it with a satellite maybe with digital TV.

Costs of gasoline is very expensive, but that is all over the world these days.

Costs of houses to rent/buy, is expensive,

i really sound like a dutch man, everything is expensive Laughing

but if you really got a average Salary its all payable.

Actually its not so bad over here, of all the countries here in Europe, is the Netherlands the best country to live in..

You should try living out here in Oz, to start with we are one of the highest taxed nations in the world.

income tax from 20% to 49%
goods and services tax on everything 15%
sales tax on most things from 12% to 18%

our petrol is currently around the $1.50 per Litre so to fill the average car up cost about $100.

to rent you pay slightly more than you would if you took out a loan and were paying the house off.

we have Gas for heating and are paying $120 per bottle, 4 years ago it was $60 per bottle.

the average cost of an internet connection on broadband is $70+ per month.

Come to australia the lucky and beautiful country, but remember you are going to pay for the experience.

17% - 49%. New rates came in in July Razz
(But yes, we are still fairly highly taxed)

Quote:

10% actually.

Quote:

Sales tax was abolished with the introduction of the GST. If there's any sales tax still around it'll be state controlled.

(Ten years with an accountant, you pick these figures up unfortunately)

Quote:

$1.20 in Qld!

Quote:

Even the 512k connections average around $50/month. And some of them have download limits. Confused

I don't know why the discussion changed to Oz but it's not surprising really. In earlier days Oz was known as New Holland. From Wikipedia -

"New Holland is a historic name for the island continent of Australia. The name was first applied to Australia in 1644 by the Dutch seafarer Abel Tasman, and remained in usage for over 150 years. After the establishment of a settlement at New South Wales in 1788, the term New Holland was more often used to refer only to that part of the continent that had not yet been annexed to New South Wales; thus it referred to the area of land that is now Western Australia. In 1804, Matthew Flinders recommended that the name Australia be adopted in preference to New Holland, but it was not until 1824 that the name change received official sanction by the United Kingdom."

Apart from that, what can a Yank (excuse the term) expect from coming to Holland (ok I don't actually live there but it's my second home).

Yes Holland is a crowded place, the greatest number of people per square mile of any European country. But coming from London (UK) it does seem quite a spread out place. The roads do get busy during rush hours and traffic jams occur, but it's nothing like trying to drive around London and it's suburbs. However if you do insist on driving around the smaller streets in Amsterdam you will find the one-way systems are designed to deter anyone from ever wanting to do the same again!

Not having been to the USA and guessing from what I've seen and read, you will find Holland (the Netherlands) expensive. It's the same for any of the main European countries - UK, Germany, Belgium, France etc. But all have their own tax systems, demands etc. which vary the prices. You mention cigarettes. In the UK it's over £5 for 20 but less than half that in Holland.

Renting property is difficult to say. It depends entirely on where you want to be. Central Amsterdam is mega bucks, the cheapest areas are full of eastern European migrants, highest crime areas etc. My recommendation is to live in a town outside A'dam and travel in - the trains and busses run well and are good value.

One thing I will say about the Dutch is that they are careful with money and that means that you should find good value (relatively) wherever you go except in the tourist places of course. If you shop where they go then you will get better prices. And don't worry about not being able to speak the language, many Dutch speak good English.

The Dutch will say it's not a great place to live in, high taxes etc. but as an outsider who's had many visits over there as well as other countries, I will say that overall I'd prefer to live there than anywhere else.

Lol some funny shit you're writing here. Im from Holland as well and i can totally agree with this. There are many better places then Holland. I guess though Amsterdam can be quite entertaining for some time if you make your way a bit. UNless if you are specialized in something you will find it hard to find a job, except maybe for a real simple job.

With that avatar of yours, Amsterdam is not an option. Very Happy

Myself, I lived in the western part of the Netherlands for a long time but I'm glad I moved to the eastern part (KAN).
I agree with thenhe678 if he is talking about Holland, but the Netherlands is (a litttle bit Very Happy) bigger than Holland.

For example:
screenshot screenshot
A beautiful stinzehuuske in Frysland (in the north). Intresting landscape...: Fryslân Boppe! Very Happy

On thing is true: there're windmills everywhere:
screenshot screenshot
(Arhhem (gelderland region) and Stiens (Friesland)

In in the east and south Nederland isn't all flat:
screenshot screenshot
Arnhem.

Beautiful hotels in Arnhem by the way, for example:
screenshot (ask the fan tailed traveller: he knows all about it) Twisted Evil

Tho Amsterdam looks nice too:
screenshot screenshot
Canals everywhere, and the red light district of course Rolling Eyes

Especially living in a boat on the Amsterdamse grachten is romantic:

But seriously: do chance your avatar if you're planning to move to Amsterdam.
They are very sensitive about that, you know.

Holland is nt the cuntry, it should be stupid of me to talk about Holland, cause Holland are two province's North-Holland and South Holland... Wink
