Rapidshare upload speed? Whats yours?

I am currently uploading to RS at 10.54 KB/sec. 13% of the file, or 5500KB out of 40300KB is up. I´ve got to wait another 55 minutes for the upload to finnish.... Jeez... And if I loose connection after 50 minutes, well, then its all fucked and I have to start again. Needless to say, you´ll never get a 500MB video from me...

This must be incredibly slow? Whats your speed when uploading to RS? Any way to speed it up?

When I upload previews to this forum I think the speed is much faster. My feeling is that RS is kind of slow at recieving files?

Honestly never pay attention to speed, I just check back once in a while to see how much time left, so I am not sure if this is normal for me...

Right now I am uploading a 56489Kb file, it is 68% done, and it is telling me my upload speed is 33.62Kb/sec, and says I have 8.9 minutes remaining...

Right now I am not downloading anything, but I also do not know if that has anything to do with it.

Yup it helps. I´m getting screwed by my internet provider who claims my upload speed is about 50KB/sec. So clearly it´s on my side, nothing to do with RS.

One question though: I´m a bit ignorant at these matters.... but does the browser have anything to do with upload speed? Do some browser handle that type of traffic better than others?

I am probably A LOT ignorant on these matters, I am not sure about different browsers effecting upload speed. I am using Mozilla Firefox. I have the get-them-all download accelerator, but I do not think that a DL accelerator does anything to upload. After this next Upload finishes, I will close firefox and use IE and see if I get a different speed for the next one.

My mistake, I just realized that I surf using Firefox, but I upload with IE, l-ess hoops to jump through.

So I switched to Firefox for the next upload, and it l-ooks like I am getting the same speed, actually maybe a bit faster.

Does time of day have anything to do with it, it's 0130 here...not too many people up now?

Speeds seem to be the result of a combination of factors for me. With RS I normally get 25kb/sec but at times it is only 15kb/sec. I guess RS is having a busy time then. In contrast I generally get 60kb/sec from websites.

The ISP also affects speeds. On a cold wet evening speeds drop noticeably as everyone gets on the net for something to do. However RS doesn't seem to be affected by time as it is being used around the world.

I'm no expert but protective programs should only affect speeds slightly if set up correctly. And unless you're using an ancient browser it shouldn't make much difference which one you use.

Try downloading something from a German website (e.g. a preview movie) and see what speed you get then. That will give you an idea of what you can achieve from a similar location. If RS is slower than that then it's all down to the RS system speed.

My biggest speed problem is with WinMX which I sometimes use. 2-5kb/sec seems to be the norm although once in a blue moon I can get over 20kb/sec.

I too vary allot, but my speeds range with RS between 26 and 53 depending on band width usage at RS, I've found that if I don't use proxies, Winmx or other accouterments it does help quite a bit. Having said that, I up load between 5 & 8 files at a time, in tabs, with the basic foxfire and all the uploads are at least 26...so you might give the multiple uploads a try because if your on broadband/DSL- you can send a lot more out than that and RS is just managing individual requests.

BTW, as I understand it, down-load 'accelerators' reduce image quality as they down-load that's how they, I'm told 'accelerate'- by narrowing the range of definition...beware because you will not know as an end user.

ok like everything else australian my upload max is 125k so when uploading something I usually get about 12 k to rapidshare

sometimes life sux downunder, but then again we're never in a hurry anyways

I normally don't pay much attention to it either, but it's about 17Kb per vid UL. Although I normally UL 10 or 11 at a time, before bed and when I wake up.

I'm a lazy frigger... besides I like to DL too.

Thanks to all for the feedback and help. I think I´m´´stuck at 10-11 KB. Sealion, I tried upping two at the same time but got only about half the normal 10-11KB/sec speed on each. But hey, atleast it felt like saving time My major problem is the broken uploads and having to start over again.

Mr. Mandingo, I think you should start taking your Ritalin regularly and cut down on the sugar intake....

I share a 4 Mbit connection with two guys, and even with two of us running... certain programs... I still get 15-25 kb/s. I tried a few things too. More than one file at once doesn't help (but works fine... useful for upload a lot overnight). If you have another upload running, it's best to disable it before starting RS, cause RS upload speed decreases fast but takes a long time to increase again.

I had broken uploads too, but only once in a while, when the site was slow anyway.

when i use a download accelarator to get my vids or zips from the net i cant navigate at all. if i try to use the msn messenger or try to navigate it takes a lot to navigate... But the file i am downloading it usually tops speeds about 35-40kb/s. i am using a shitty dsl in mexico which is not that bad but definitely it is way below europe's or usa's dsl.
