I saw Alien as a kid and have never been more petrified by any movie or really anything since. I would have ran screaming from the theater but I was too scard to move! The sense of dread in that movie is just overwhelming.

The Howling also scared the crap out of me, particularly the cabin scene.

I'm also partial to Wolfen, which is a rather stylish horror film.

And as someone mentioned, Jaws. My parents took me to see that right before we went to Florida for vacation. I still swam in the ocean but I never stopped looking for dorsal fins! Very Happy

By my profile you can guess that I do like my horror films, and especially old school. I have a huge collection of films & memorabelia, my opinion is in 2 parts.

Classic horror for me was the friday night double billls that I grew up with. My favourite actors being Vincent Price, Boris Karloff & Peter Cushing. 10 films [no certain order]

The Bride of Frankenstein
The Revenge of Frankenstein
The Abominable Dr Phibes
Theatre of Blood
The Wicker man
The Premature Burial
Witchfinder General
The Devil Rides out
Dr Terrors House of Horrors
Mark of the Devil

Horror films changed in the mid 70's due to the impact of the Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw & Last House on the Left.

Dawn of the Dead
Hellraiser
Evil Dead II
Della Morte Della More
Ju-On [The Grudge]
Near Dark
REC
Audition
28 Days Later
Re-Animator

most modern horror is cack, but I have to admit the remakes of The Ring, The Hills Have Eyes, and Texas CS the Beginning are pretty good. The last horror filmn mad that I consider to be a cult classic is 30 Days of Night, great movie.

I would probably keep changing my choice the more I think about it, but if this thread is of interest I'll keep suggesting good horror films, and if allowed make external ULs / direct you to DLs.

Discounting the classics that everyone lists, my favorites from the last decade, which really hasn't supplied many "great" ones are The Descent, Severance, Ginger Snaps and Slither (More Comedic Horror) Twisted Evil

Yup. The kid that played Damien was such a scary little freak.

The movie did give many viewers their first glimpse of the always vicious Rottweilers, though.
