How can people complain about something that is FREE?

Evidently just by typing the words Wink I don't understand it either - but they do.

This is such a boring topic.

This conversation is years old and has been ridiculed and ignored 100 times on all sorts of different forums.

RS holds the dominant market share, and inevitably 2 sorts of people start these whine threads over and over again.

1. Employees of RS competitors who pathetically try to sling mud while representing themselves as 'frustrated users' rather than marketing employees of rival companies.

2. Idiots who grew up since 1990 and think they deserve anything they want in life for free, particularly when it comes to the internet/entertainment. Rather than appreciating what they CAN get for free, they spend all their time complaining about what they can't have for free. It boggles the mind.

Neither is worth listening to.

Is RS perfect? Of course not.

Have they made some stupid business decisions arrogantly thinking people will meekly go along with them? Absolutely.

But every alternative has equal or worse drawbacks, a reality conveniently ignored by all of these dumb threads started by (1) or (2) above.

I have been very happy with rapidshare for more than a year.

It is inexpensive, reliable, and widely used.

Even when I have a premium repidshare account it still only downloads at 130k. Rapidshare sucks and now most of the time free users cant even use it cause they say they dont have any free slots available. Rapidshare is lying they tell you that just so youll join. Hey if you people wanna pay to download porn thats posted on here from free go ahead. Thats the whole point of getting on here to get FREE poorn. Not to pay some jackass site to charge you to download files they dont even upload.

I get the max. speed from my ISP with RS premium (4Mbyte/s), therefore the problem with low dl speed and premium is on your side IMHO.

What is a new argument is the fact that for 12 hours a day, RS is unusable by free users. I've never seen another file hosting site that is basically offline for free users for half the day. Yes, I'm sure that RS premium is wonderful, grand, and all that, but not having a free service for 12 hours a day is a little odd. It's sad when a site like depositfiles has better free service (which isn't saying much). No, I'm not working for some file hosting site and no I don't expect everything for free, but RS's decision to eliminate free service for 12 hours a day is a little baffling to me.

It's all about money.

1. They want force free users to buy a premium.
2. Fewer number of free user = lowering the caused traffic = saves money, because they don't need to buy new hardware

I'm quite sure, that all other OCHs (DF, HF ect.) would do pretty much the same, if they are as large as RS right now.

Looks like RS is losing business with all the competition going on. They are cutting back on their operational expenses, part of which is bandwidth for free users. Not to mention the referral system which is money going out of their pocket. RS.DE is closing business for good, if they aren't closed yet. I will not be surprised if RS follow suit in a few months or years.

They will be active until the end of February 2010. Since March the 1st. all hits to RS.DE will be redirected to RS.COM, but the files hosted at RS.DE will be lost for good. Finally they have to admit that RS.DE and RS.COM had the same owner behind (they had insistently denied that fact!), but they could easily have transferred all active material from .DE to .COM Evil or Very Mad

Well said, Monkey D Ruff. Sure, some people are whining, but others do have a legitimate gripe in that RS has taken away their free service for 12 hours a day (or practically). And I would rather give my money to the actual websites instead of a file hosting service.

Sure, but do you imagine, how much money that would cost?!?

The average price for access to one paysite = 30 US$.

RS = 10 US$

The only reason why file sharing exists (regardless if P2P, OCH etc.) is the price.
Why should someone pay 30 bucks, if he/she can get it for free (or at least for a lesser price)?!?
