Asking for the summation of such a hugely important issue with a single word is typical of the techniques used nowadays (actually they've been use for ages) to hoodwind the masses to allow the elite to fuck the masses seriously in the ass while the masses ask for more.

Hmm i think Bush and Obama arent as bad as people make them out to be...never the less its pretty ironic Obama sucked in so many of the antiwar people and is now sending more to Afghanystan. Hes not bad, but most of his social programs i think will only hurt the economy and be like johnsons programs in the 60s failures - in fact the financial crisis started right when he took office and his term has mostly been nothing but recession.

Therefore, not being a republican either...i can only say and hope (as perhaps many of the 75% of swing voters in the middle) that a great independent will run and help boot out these dinosaur parties who are growing stagnant.

That is hilarious. You may want to check this link
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Late-2000s_recession

The first sentence is:
Quote:
Beginning in the United States in December 2007 (and with much greater intensity since September 2008, according to the National Bureau of Economic Research), the industrialized world has been undergoing a recession, a pronounced deceleration of economic activity.

Obama took office in January 2009, by the way.

I'm not positive because I'm not from California but isn't SCHWARZENEGGER a Republican? Also he can't run for president because he wasn't born in the United States. I believe that is a rule for running for president. Oh and Obama.

Like his predecessor had nothing to do with it? I'm no fan of Obama, but you can't blame him for what was fucked up before he got into office. He inherited a big pile of shit.

Schwarzenegger is a Republican, though even those in his party question whether he actually belongs just because he is willing to work with Democrats. Plus his wife is a Kennedy. There were talks a while back to amend the Constitution so he could run for President. Those talks have died down as the Republican party has become even crazier (as a whole) and more hostile to Schwarzenegger for not being "conservative" enough.

Oh, and Obama was born in Hawaii, which is a part of the United States the last time I checked and became a state before Obama was born, so therefore he is a natural-born citizen.

Ok, you can't blame the guy for what was handed to him, but, what has he exactly done to fix things? I mean, he keeps saying "I inherited this." Well, it's been almost a year, unemployment is worse, housing hasn't really recovered, there have been at least 60 bank failures this year, and so on.

Maybe instead of going to Amsterdam and Copenhagen, he should have stayed at home.

Sorry, but I just don't think this man was very prepared for the Presidency.

I'll say it again - I'm not a fan of the guy. He seems inept even on basic things like simple diplomatic protocol (like not bowing to foreign dignitaries?). But what would you have him do to turn things around? The root causes of what plagues our economy started years before he took office and I can't see blaming him for not being able to stop it. If it wasn't him in office, it'd be someone else spinning their wheels.

Ok, I agree, that Obama isnt directly responsible for the entire financial crisis is true...Wars are expensive, during WWII US taxes went up 50percent or more to pay for the costss, and of course Iraq - (whether good or bad) was costing 1 million dollars a day or more, so that is easily one of the biggest reasons.

Nevertheless the biggest part of the stock market crash came in Fall 2008 when, I believe, big investors and movers and shakers on Wall Street saw Obama had clinched the nomination and was getting set to win, and knew that he was running on a ticket to raise taxes and increase social programs, which sound good on paper, like communism, but bottlenecks economic growth, and is a good time to grab your money and run from the stock market and invest in gold while Obama is in office.

In the same sense, you probably cant blame Bush, like the media often did for hurricanes and global warming, this has been going on all through the auto boom decades of Clinton and back for a quarter century or more under both administrations.

Yet more reasons, imho to vote for a new independent party which would back high speed (electromagnetic) rail transport like they are building in China, Japan, Europe etc.

The big problems here I see are

1) creating a viable party that really can run and win seats not just for president but also in the house, senate and state governments. Perot and Nader tried it, but really without any plan or a centralised economic plans. Nader was nice, but just saying your green is too narrow - a better idea seems like Schwarzenegger - conservative on the one hand - low taxes, strong defence etc, but green on the other hand - public transport - against drilling in Alaska like dumb Palin - still liberal enough to allow for medical marijuana - let the people do what they want - but he inherited a nightmare from the peoples republic of california where taxes and bureaucracy are so high after years of democratic control its hard to make much progress it seems.

2) not getting out of hand with too many parties like some countries in Europe where there are four, five or more parties with seats, and no one can get anything done (not to mention trying making a profit or starting a business with a 22 percent sales tax)

This is also true, they would need to amend, and or reinterpret the constitution to allow Arnold to run - although I think Obama set a precedent himself for being born on US soil, but with one completely foreign parent. Ok, so Arnold wasnt born in the US, BUT hes lived here as a citizen for over 30 years, and this is the only requirement to become for example a senator - I mean so what are you - like only a 'half' citizen if you can run for senator, be governor, but not run for president, and yet someone with both parents from Mexico, but happened to be born across the border in the US could run? Again this is some interpretation of constitutional law etc...but that is why the Constitution was written in paper and not chiseled in stone - to allow for changes. For instance the Republicans probably screwed themselves for a good president like Reagan who not allowed to run for more than 2 terms because after Roosevelts 4 terms, they **** the change through for 2 term limits. In the original constitution slavery was not forbidden, and only changed by Lincoln, so the original constitution definitely was not perfect - and can and should be changed at times - of course who could push this through? Republicans dont have a majority. Who knows maybe Arnold doesnt even want to run, but what other choices are there?

Exactly, you hit the nail on the head, even many Republicans were tired of Bush, and I think one reason they are still chasing people away is all the religious fundamentalism etc....conservatives love low taxes but this none of this help, but yes here it is one year later and Obama hasn't done much, who can in one year, and he is great speaker no one can deny, and its nice to see a black president, but on ideas to really fix things? Hes a perfect example of a Chicago lawyer who will talk your ears off saying everything is or will be alright....but never really gives you a square answer. I think a new Independent could take us away from these extremes.
