I don't know which media player you used for that but a lot of people here use Media Player Classic. You can download it from here:
http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Classic/3000-2139_4-10518778.html

This is a screen shot I made using it.

It is very easy to use. Whilst your video is playing click "file" and then "save thumbnail". You can alter the size of the image and the number of frames.

I use Rapidshare's own uploader. It works fine for me. If you have a premium account go to "Rapid Tools" on the top menu bar and you can download it from there. (This for PCs. I found no suitable uploaders for Macs).

The only problem with the RS uploader they have there now is only works with Vista and I'm running Xp. I have the old one but it will only let me upload 50mb files not the 200mb that is allowed now.

As for preview maker I use imagegrabber it allows you to choose how many images and the size you want and automatically makes a preview with info on it.
Here's an example of the result: https://www.forumophilia.com/

this one is several clips in one rar file if you look at the time stamp you can tell where each clip begins and ends. I like that I can make one preview for several clips like this one.

I have XP and the RS Uploader works well for me and uploads files up to 200 mgbs. The RS Manger only works with Vista.

To split files most here use HJ-Split. You can get it here:
http://www.freebyte.com/hjsplit/

I would prefer to split files with Winrar but I have found that files split this way seem to get a lot less downloads. I don't know why as everyone has Winrar and all you have to do is highlight all the files and select "Extract Here" and it automatically extracts and joins the files. You don't have to open another application like you do with files split with HJ-Split. WinRar is the standard way to split files on movie and TV series forums.

Less downloads, really. I can't compare cause all my files are splitted (or at least packed) with winrar.
I'm still wondering everytime i see a rar-file that is afterwards splitted with hjsplit, since it is really easy with winrar to choose from predefined values (100 or 200Mb or as a default setting) and pack them in a single task.

So far I've only used Winrar and it never occurred to me that it would make a difference in the number of people willing to download. As for people who use HJsplit to split rar-files, I think thats because they don't understand checksums or why files get deleted.

You are right it is so much easier. You can also password protect the files with WinRar at the same time as splitting them.

Also worth mentioning:
I've never seen anybody advise that you can also easily define the split part sizes by putting in "mb" after the number in the bottom left area, see below:

It's alot easier than putting in actual "byte" numbers when you are going with sizes other than the predefined ones.

I'd be willing to bet that the program you're looking for is Image Grabber II
