Yea, 'twas a pleasant surprise indeed.
Not only a great result but a rather entertaining match, as well.
Dida is awful, that is for sure.
Ronaldinho is a shell of his former self and all he does is beg for fouls; but he had 1 moment of brilliance.
Kaka was off his game and CR7 not suited up surely hurt their chances.
Casillas was stunningly poor, as well.
Benzema was definitely fouled in the box - not called.
Still, I will take it.

And United plays the reserves and takes all the points back to OT, 'pool coughs up the points at home and are in terrible danger.
(Hmmm, actually have to hope they do make it to the knock out rounds so they're distracted from the league)...

What a great Match Day indeed!

A surprise ? This is Real Madrid and Milan AC... Nobody can be sure of the winner... Great performance for Milan but it's one of the top team...

The real surprise was at Barcelona...
And maybe at Bordeaux, but it's the year of Bordeaux, remember...
The defeat of Glasgow was not a surprise (only nationnal french team can even lose in a fighting spirit-kinda-squad)...

And at the end, money will win... but Bordeaux will go to finals...

but Milan's recent form suggested anything but an away victory. Maybe Real believed their own hype before the game and thought it would be easy?

Yes indeed, I took it a shock defeat and I imagine so did most of the world - Madrid at home surely means at least a share of the points if not taking all three.
Milan lost the World #3 (IMO) player to the club they played who also added the World #1 player as well as other world class players.
They shattered the transfer market record and those f#cks at FIFA who lambaste England for their spending, casually looked the other way.

You helped me make my point Wink

Seriously though, I think if you asked 100 knowledgeable people who they thought should win, 90% would say Madrid based on talent and the Bernabeau.

Trust me, I loathe Madrid as the bullied my club into selling the best in the world; there's nothing more I want to see than them fail.

To be fair, Platini did criticise Madrid. He said buying Ronaldo for £80m "represents a serious challenge to the idea of fair play and the concept of financial balance in our competitions"

I'm not sure what Fifa/Uefa could do. If they imposed a ban on transfers of more than £10m for example, all the big clubs would leave Uefa and start their own league.

Fifa/Uefa need the big clubs more than the other way around imo.

I think the only fair way would be to have a superleague of 20 teams and a draft system where teams who finish bottom of the superleague have first pick over non-superleague players.

Although I don't think the teams who weren't in the superleague would be very happy!

No, but I'm just thinking how to make football financially fairer. To do that in itself is unfair to all the other clubs, but at least you could regulate a new league with a salary cap, draft etc.

By the way, did anyone see Real Madrid lost 4-0 to a third division club in the cup last night?!

Liverpool have bad injuries too. Man Utd don't need a win as much as Liverpool. It could be the end of Liverpool's season on Wednesday

Do you think Benitez will lose his job if Liverpool lose to Lyon. I think he will blame it on injuries to avoid the sack.

Rafa isn't gonna get sacked midseason, but if they don't win something this year, I'd give even odds on his hasty retreat.
