Time to get on my soap-box again. I love movies but one thing that really irritates me is film remakes. For example:
1. Tv remakes - Sgt. Bilko, Bewitched, Dukes of Hazzard, Charlies Angels, etc.
2. Remakes of non-English language films - The Assassin, Sommersby, Wicker Park, Just Visiting, Taxi, The Ring, The Grudge, Dark Water, etc.
3. Remakes of classic films - The Italian Job, Get Carter, Alfie, Pink Panther, King Kong, etc.
It's remakes of non-english language films that really annoys me. Cinemas are already saturated with American films and often a good foreign film is left in the shadow of a not so good, big-budget Hollywood remake. So, while a lot of people will know of Bridget Fonda's performance in "The Assassin", less people will know of Anne Parillaud's excellent performance in the original film "La Femme Nikita"
Hollywood makes great films, but there are a lot of great modern films made outside the US too. For example, A Very Long Engagement (France), 9 Queens (Argentina), Anatomy (Germany), Brother (Russia), Together (Sweden), Dog Days (Austria), Summer in La Goulette (Tunisia) etc.
So, if I had influence with Hollywood producers, my message to them would be:
1. Get some new ideas and stop remaking old shows and films
2. Stop remaking foreign films.
