I'm not sure what's going on! And this probably isn't the right place to post this question, but I just thought you might have an idea!
I'm no expert on technical matters but it sounds like you may have an issue with codecs needing updating? I usually get around video play/missing codec problems by using
VLC Media Player - free software which almost always plays troublesome clips that Windows Media Player cannot.

Oh, just had a thought, the problem could be that you're not joining the files? As stedem said:

Make sure your downloaded files are in the format:
Oc_video_4.wmv.001
Oc_video_4.wmv.002
Oc_video_4.wmv.003 etc...
...because I've found in the past .avi is sometimes added at the end of the first part of a video split with hjsplit (ie. Oc_video_4.wmv.001
.avi). You have to remove the .avi suffix before you can join/extract the whole video with hjsplit.exe
