Is this going to affect the forums rule on not allowing file hosts that pay the uploader? There isn't yet an explanation on how it works.

Not really, they pay for new customers (pretty much the same as many paysites do it with referral marketing), not for uploads or no. of dls.

I've seen this note yesterday.
We of the staff will discuss this topic.

i'm up to 8 euros at the moment and i've done nothing-
just posted my links as normal without a reference no
or anything.it seems that rapid are coming under pressure
from the cash hosts and this is part of their fightback.

the problem may come if they do in future choose to offer $'s for
no of dls.yes that would violate the forum's policy of posters posting
just for fun and not for cash, but you would lose 70% of the forum's
content at a stroke if you banned them-could be a tricky one.

I have been posting as per normal too but have received zero.

How does one accumulate those points? I clicked on it and it just says more info in 2 days.

The specific guidelines have been added to the FAQ, in case you haven't yet seen them:

Is it acceptable for us to add our rapidshare Link with Referrer ID to our threads?

I would say no, but we of the staff will discuss this topic (svinto is still on vacation).

As far as i understood the RS FAQ, there's no need to put the referrer manually to the links: if a free user clicks on your link and decides to buy a premium account (from within your link page), you will get the referrer point.
Untill now i "earned" 2+8+26 points without using the referrer-string (and i'm not planing to use it in future)
This string is only useful if you would like to put an advertisment in your signature, for example

And that's not allowed (no advertisement).

Well, I'm back now.
Looks like something that needs to be discussed for a while.
According to how the rules are written now, no referrallinks are allowed in the download url.
Since that seem to not be required, according to some posts above, it should in theory immediatly disqualify RS as an acceptable host.
However, after a quick read of the available information, it seem like a claim of the referral earnings will cost, for every €0.70, a 1000 point deduction of the premium points that could not be used to extend the current account or create a new.
That brings the issue to the same level as when the reward program was introduced, and that has been accepted.

More input is welcome.

Isn't this discussion academic?
It all looks like just another rapidscam to me.
They are not going to pay.

Whether they'll pay or not is yet to be seen. But, they have honored their rewards program.

I have changed them for the clickable thumbs instead.

You might be right ...

last week i remember there was a quota of 30 referrer points, now it gone. Maybe they say forty next week. But i can't really imagine that RS will damage their image with that, so in the discussion we have to face the fact that they will pay money.
But they're paying money for things that you cannot really control: some free user wants to download "your" file and thinks he now needs a premium account. That has happened surely all the time in the past, so this new behaviour of RS may be a reaction to the poularity of these new hosters like netload and hotfile. But they are paying for the number of downloads which you can control: post your stuff everywhere and you will get the points. And that's what's happening in boards that allow those hosters: you hardly find RS links, at least of newer stuff. Beside the fact that they are paying money for downloads the increasing use of HF and NL has surely something to do with their easy remote-services and the ftp-access they offer: you don't even have to upload a single file by yourself to make money! Ridiculous!
So it seems that RS has come under pressure but instead of paying for downloads they use this referrer-alternative, cause i think they know exactly that a lot of boards have rules like we do and RS would be banned otherwise.
So maybe RS has already given us the answer Wink

Sorry that it took me so long to reply.

I think it's only a matter of time before some judge ends sharing copyrighted material through filehosters.
I think Rapidshare will need new users, "legal" users to survive.
I think that's what their lottery was all about.
I don't think the lottery was a success.
So I wasn't surprised they came up with something else.
I was expecting the terms-of-service condition, and I found it.
And that is why I think they won't pay.

To be honest, I never considered the possibility that it could just be competition between filehosters.
So I may very well be wrong.
Only one way to find out.
Has anyone been paid yet?

Anyway, I shouldn't have called it a scam. There's nothing wrong with trying to survive.
