Hello.

Not long ago I've decided to create a free "collector account"
on rapidshare because without it as "free user", my uploaded
files would be only downloadable for 10 times.

As I created this "collector account", I've got told by RS that
I can get a "free premium account" when I've got enough of
these so called "RAPIDPOINTS".
But RS forgot to write on their page (or maybe I just didn't
find it) how many of these rapidpoints I do need to get a
"free premium account". Rolling Eyes

Does anyone here have informations about how many
rapidpoints I need to get a "free premium account"?

I already have about 1200 of these points.

Thanks in advance.

You need 10,000 RS points to create your first Premium Account, and that account will be valid for one month. From then on, further redemptions of blocks of 10,000 points will allow you to extend that created account for another additional month, and so on ...

But once created the account, be sure that you cumulate 10,000 points within the next month of creation, otherwise your Premium Account will expire and it will be no means for further reactivation (of that account). Of course, if two or three days before expiration you see that you will not reach the target, you can always decide to extend the account with some cash !!

Thank you for your help, andylo. Smile

If I would see that my "free premium account" don't have the required
10.000 points two or three days before it expires, I could also move all
my uploaded files of that account to another "collector account" which I
could create easily and fast, right? Idea

I just don't have to miss the day when the "free premium account"
is close to expire without the chance to get the 10.000 points.
If I would miss that, me and my files would be fucked. Sad

Thanks again for teaching me on this one. Very Happy
It was quite helpful.

Heres another question, can you download your own files and create points for yourself? Never tried it but it might work, even if you have to use a proxy. Wink

Possible, yes, but lot of work.
You can dl only one file as free user at the same time and this file can create only three points per hour.
And fast proxies are often used by someone else who dl a rs file.

Just upload approximately 500+ files of valuable content and you don't have to worry about your premium account anymore (but don't forget to extend it right in time Wink, have to be done manually).

Last New Year RS offered a special discount, you got one month premium for only 3,000 points (offer lasted for one hour though).

Just read the news from time to time.

By the way: Free user max. dl speed limited to 1Mbit (=128 Kilobyte/s)

Was the rapidshare offer something you had to sign up for immediately? Sometimes I read they give free months away but I don't know how to find news about this.

The New Year offer wasn't announced before, they wrote the offer in their news section hours?!? before.

From the latest RS-news: moving files costs 500 RS-points (250 from the origin of the files, 250 from the destination account).
Maybe think about that: when you convert your first 10.000 points within your collectors-acount, you can choose if all the files should be moved to the new premium-account or not. If you say no, the files remain in your still existing collectors-acount and you can gather some more points. You can then download with your premium account until it expires and don't have to think about moving your files. But if you transfer your files, make sure that at least 250 points still remain in your collectors-account so you can move them back.
So better what a few months until you have enough files in your collectors-account and can constantly earn 10.000 points per month before transferring them.

When you create your first RS premium account for 10.000 RS points, they ask you if you like to transfer your files at the collector account to the new premium account, simply you can chose not to transfer them, and leave them at the Collector account and use your premium account for download, and continue upploading files into the collector account, and when the premium account expires, you can create another one as your collector account get 10.000 points, no time limit for collector accounts.

You can continue doing that until you have enough files at the collector account to earn more than 10.000 points per month, then transfer the files to the new premium account without fear.

Thanks, Loui and dedofedo.

I didn't know that before. I already have only 3500 RSP and it's
getting up slowly, slower than expected.
Currently, with all the knowledge I've earned in this thread, I
am sure that I'll handle it like "dedofedo" advised. I'll create
a free premium-account and DO NOT choose the option with
moving my files. So I'll let my files on my collector-account
and only use the premium-account to download as long as
possible (one month).
The problem is that I would have to create an own movie
thread to get more than 10.000 rapidpoints each month.
Actually, I'm only contributing to other people's threads
and if those threads go a few pages further, my uploads
get into an oblivion what means that no one downloads
them anymore because they think that my uploads would
be dead anyway.
500 RS-points only for moving files is expensive, though. Mad

Would be interesting how many RSP other people got
round here and how many files they have uploaded
on their accounts. So I could get a better picture of it.

Do you guys think it would be smarter to split large
movies in more parts?
The clue is following:
Let's say that a movie is about 220MB large...
Usually I make a two RAR files outta it because the
maximum amount of Megabytes which is allowed to
upload is by 200MB. So I've decided to make it easier
for the downloader to make less files as possible. (220MB = 2 files)
But IF I would split the RAR in more parts (probably
4 parts for a movie with 220MB), I would get more
RS-points, right? The more files which get downloaded,
the more RS-points I earn, right?

Or probably spread my links on more boards than just
forumophilia...I know many boards...dunno what 2 do...

Or how do you guys think about that? How do you
handle this to get the most RSP as possible?

My premium is self-sustaining since it exceeded 500 uploaded files.

At the moment I've 740 files uploaded (maximum was 860, but I've lost a lot of files due to reports during the last months).

My newly created collectors account contains only 20 files, but is constantly growing.

I would split it in three parts, 100 MB the first two, and 20 MB the third.

I've split almost all my files to 100 MB, because at the beginning RS allowed only a max. of 100 MB file-size to download by free users.
And the RS manager allows to upload files with a max. size of 100 MB as well.

If you separate your files in smaller parts, many users may think, that you're only out for points (which is true) and maybe they decide not to download.

200 MB files are a problem as well. Take a while to download it (for free users) and if the ISP connection gets lost in the meantime, all the work is futile.

An own thread is necessary, but if you contribute sought-after material to large threads, you'll get 10,000 points really easily.

Example: the Oldje thread: I've posted a beauty and senior video there two days ago and got 300 points since then.
For uploads to another thread posted one week before, I got 20 points since then.

Spreading links to other boards may help, but your risk to loose the files due to reports will also rise.
Your decision.
