whats up with quick time player

often when i download a video clip quick time sais its unable to play but other times the videos do play, it all depends on the videos i try playing. dose any one know what to do. by the way i have a mac

It is probably the file type. Try using GOMplayer or Media Player Classic (both free) as these don't need codecs. Google is your friend here.

I don't have quicktime player anymore. Felt it really slowed down my system.

Quicktime Player with the free Flip4Mac plugin will play wmv files ok in addition to the ones supported natively, but I've found I usually just use VLC for everything.
