In one particular thread: https://www.forumophilia.com/topic89549.html when I try to download the parts for some reason my computer adds .zip to the end of the first part. So say a file is xyz.zip.001 and xyz.zip.002 when i try to download it, in the download window the computer adds a second .zip so it reads xyz.zip.001.zip and thus makes decompressing fail.

I read a solution to this in some topic but i have no idea which one it was so I'm stuck for now. Any help is appreciated

I'm a machead and I have had the same problem with hjsplit files.

But it's easily fixed! Very Happy

Allow the file to download... You will get a file with the double zip suffix on your desktop – zip.001.zip – possibly along with a ghost download file which you can just place in the trash.

So, turn to the zip.001.zip file... just highlight the name of the file and delete the second zip. You will get a message asking if you want to rename the file as .001 or leave it as .zip. Click the button for .001. Then just use hjsplit to join the files as usual.

Takes a few seconds! Wink

The files doesn't always download though. In the download window it gets to 99% downloaded/decompressed then fails. so the file i am left with is .zip.001.zip.download. Not an actual file to work with.

Set safari to not auto run downloaded files. That should stop it from crashing on multipart files.

Ok so we are making progress but still not there. Setting it to not download right away now makes the file actually download. Still .zip.001.zip but complete nonetheless.

Now if i try to simply change the extension from .zip to .001 it takes away the .zip but doesnt actually change like it normally does when you want to change the extension.

Additional info it it helps...I'm running the latest version of safari ( 4 beta) and have OSX 10.5.6

Upgrade to 10.5.7 which just was release and get back to Safari 3. Don't use betas and expect them to work. Betas are just that, still in development because of bugs. If they worked as expected they would not be betas.

problem solved i guess it was something with safari. thanks for the help

Since I got the answer to that might as well ask another one while I am at it.

Is there any good un-rar programs besides stuff-it? In one topic, i know the videos are fine because people haven't said anything but when i try to un-rar them it says the structure is damaged. Sometimes it says that if I entered the wrong password but the password supplied in the topic is pretty simple.

Thanks again for the help

Search for RAR expander. It is what I've been using and it works most of the time. Stuffit is just completely useless and I'm sorry I paid for the damn thing last year.

Make sure you get the codex for wmv for quicktime too.
