Anyone understand the ending of The 13th Floor (1999)???

Anyone seen this movie and get the ending? How could that computer character woke up in reality (which is the future 2024)?

Pretty decent movie considering its budget less than 20Millions. Similar to other alternate reality movies - Dark City, The Matrix, Jocob's Ladders, existenZ, The Game.

While you are in the virtual reality, the character you are replacing is stored in your brain. This was established earlier when the same thing happens, except all inside virtual reality.

As far as i understood, in VR all people have their own lifes, which were created or invented by the programmers. If the programmer jumps into VR, this (or better his) corresponding person in temporarily "switched off" (i guess they say it's sleeping). So you always have a corresponding person in the next level of VR and if you die in VR, your brain is wiped out and the invented character can fill your brain and so you can jump to the next level ...

Don't forget that the VR world created a VR world themselves. BTW thank you for reminding me about that movie. I'd actually been trying to remember the name of this movie. I wanted to rewatch it, but could not remember what it was.
