Instead of the "300 post" rule, which encourages so many junk food posts, (i.e. no nutritional content) why not reset the incentive to be 150mb uploaded, 100 rar, or 100 rapidshare etc ? I know it would be a little trickier to administrate but at least it would cut down on the amount of crappy bumps that keep occuring....

Even then some would post small rar files etc etc

the 300 posts would take any 'normal' poster many many months posting. unless like TripleX you post every minute. This morning he had posted so many replies that all the good posts have been pushed down the list by about 30 posts

the idea is to keep people interested in the board.

what stikes me is the number of people (20000+) who join and never post...are they still here ...do they still look at posts ...do they care....AND why join when you can look as a guest?

Anyway ..whoever hands out the pass for 300 posts is not stupid and will probably say no to those who post either crap or just comments.

Well, I for 1 am working my way toward the 300 post mark and I am trying to do it with the best quality I can. Admitably I have seen some of the "power posters" and think they will get there just deserts in the end.

What I love is the people that post links and pictures from other boards just to get credit here. Jerks!

I hit the 300 mark slowly but surely, and I hope that I contributed enough meaningful and good content to warrant a VIP status... I think the old method, reviewing someone's posts once they hit 300 to make sure they didn't post too much crap and imposing some kind of penalty (extra 100 to get VIP, etc) if they did, is probably the best option for deciding who gets the "VIP" designation and the AF prize. Gives the spammers a chance to convert themselves and lets the good posters have their way too. Just my 2 cents.

Whats the point? If you move the goal to 5000 posts, you'll get 4999 spam postings, if it is 150 meg, you'll get 144 meg of spam, etc etc ad nauseum.... Just give it when earned, if at all.... Cool

I've always thought that the whole 300 post thing was stupid. Honestly, it's not the number of posts someone has that makes them great or not. LOL We can all clearly see that. Of course, the latest example is TripleX. Poor guy... or is it poor forum. LOL

Either way, if you keep the 300 post thing, then just have everyone vote when the time comes. The members can decide if someone is worthy or not. If not the general member population then maybe only those with 300+ posts can vote on it. Something like that would work better I think.

I agree, I have been working towards my 300 posts and have tried not to do too many junk posts. I am not sure of what criteria you want to impose, but to take away the 300 posts criteria when someone has spent a few weeks or months working towards it with quality posts would suck.

Myself I've been trying to have around 40%-60% of my posts be of the contribution type.

well, an alternative that could work out is to check in how many days has a user reached the 300 posts . there you should definitely know who the heck is simply posting garbage msgs

I think it needs to be a balance. Whether you have a 0.41 posts per day like you, or something like 25 posts per day like others, it is the ratio of content.

I think you should look at the content of the posts before opening up a 4 month old thread!!!!!!

You do not have any idea what you are talking about Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Back from Limbo.

arbjork, I happened to look and see what kind of things you like to post, and I went through five pages and got bored of trying to find even one instance where you actually contributed anything other than commentary Shocked

While I look at the person you are too gutless to name in your snide attack, and see page after page of great picture contributions.

I would rather have someone put 5 to 10 to 20 posts a day up and have them add to the content of the forum than have someone like you lurk around and never give anything back Very Happy Very Happy

SHUT UP, crawl back under your rock, and leave the good posters alone.

How about this for an idea...

Before you start making ridiculous accusations, you have AT LEAST ONE post were you contribute. I went through ALL TWELVE pages of posts by arbjork, and all I found was

BLAH, BLAH, BLAH

Opinions are like assholes, everybody has one, and most people are too dumb to know when to keep them to themselves...

Put a cork in yours, arbjork.

Why bother, 300 or 500 or not, it seems there's no "reward" anymore. His free passes limit were reached a long time ago it seems. I'm still waiting like other members here.

Yup that is true Ub, I'm still waiting on my 300th one, never a word back from GS but that's not why 'I'm' here.... or why I post. I think GS should just get rid of the commitment and focus on what he does best (bringing content to the www). It seems this reward stuff creates allot more negative energy in the forum than what it was intended to do- good.

It is an old argument resurfaced...

I too have wondered if an alternative system might be possible - perhaps by utilising the otherwise unused feature of the board in screenshot Usergroups - whereby status and priveleges can be earned. That would for example prevent download access until a certain level of posting has been achieved, or something... and users could be advanced to usergroups in accordance with their forum activity... I don't really know, just contributing to the discussion... Wink

Yes oo, I was reading through allot of the 'old' stuff 'back in the troubled times' and saw that idea come up- I believe someone countered with the anti-elitist and 'counter-productive to attraction' arguments...hum, some truth to these.... I too don't know the right answer, but by in LARGE the quality, over all here, is pretty fucking outstanding compared with other boards. It's sad really, because what a lot of the L.eechers & talkers don't get is that as you post & give back, you make friends and then the PM trading of material, sources, ideas & programs begin. The L.eechers only see the tip of the ice burg of all the wonderful stuff that I'm starting to see & learn Smile
