I have a Zune HD 32 GB and as a musicplayer and for just goofing around it's much better than my Ipod touch - and one thing that's much better is that it's not as scratch-prone as the Ipod.
I use a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 earphones - they are some of the best out there.

I have a hard time spending that much money on earphones, but if they are worth it I might do it.
I don't have the SE420 but I do have a pair of the SE310 - soundwise they are very, very good - you have to buy something like the top Ultimate Ears models to get anything better. BUT build-wise they are not as good. I have only had to exchange them one time (which to Shure's credit they do without any problems) but several of my friends have had to exchange them several times. The E2C model I had a couple of years back I had to exchange 8 times in about a year and a half.
The build quality has improved over time - but I would still recommend you buy a pair of Ultimate ears - I have a pair of super.fi 5's which are very good.
And then there's the price: 400$ for the SE420 versus the super.fi 5's 170$. I don't think the SE420 is twice as good - for 400$ I would rather buy some TripleFi 10's - they are really the best earphones you can buy without going for Ultimate Ears costum models which costs from 1000$.
