Is this normal or average?

I ran the uploads parallel as well as the downloads.

I have run 24 parallel downloads at once on my 16mbps cable connection and seen 200 KB not kb a second as the slowest one when Europe was supposed to be asleep or at work.

Some servers seem to be overloaded I'd suppose...

I'm curious to see what others get and expect.

I'm only getting about 100 kb/sec download right now. It's just slow as hell.

Don't feel bad. Mine are in the 30s at their HIGHEST.

Edit: Mine is with premium too. It's just my satellite ISP.

I get ca. 68 KB/s (not parallel) using the RS uploader.

I have Premium so it might not be completly relevant.
Upload always in the range 800-1600 KB/sec 100MB takes typically 90-120 sec including the setup and finish conversation between RS and my puter.
Downloads are in the range 800-4400 KB/sec
This varies depending on how busy they are but never less than the 800.
My connection is 10/100 MB.

Ohh, I almost forgot. I always run single up/single down.
I have found that running in parallell actually "steals" capacity and the added speeds doesn't come to what the single one is.

I need at least twenty minutes to send up 100MB

I do have a premium account as well

Ok, next question would be how far you are from the servers?

I'm sitting 4,000 miles away.

I get 200-300kb/sec download speed at night, sometimes as low as 12 during daytime hours (and the connections often get dropped partway through). I'm halfway around the world from the RS servers also, and being in a small city with laughable broadband service doesn't help.

One of these days I should try to download something from RS using my Blackberry and see it it's any faster. Laughing

With my conection it needs about 1.5 hours to upload 100MB. Crying or Very sad
Another problem is that surfing the web or downloading is nearly impossible during an upload because all bandwidth is needed. Crying or Very sad
Download speed (with rs premium) is about 1.000 kbit/s. That's the limit my provider permits.

I'm in Holland so not too far from the servers I guess.
My speed is as fast as my ISP provides for adsl basic.
>650kbytes/s dl - 32kbytes/s ul

Of course sometimes the DL speed is much lower.

I need ca. 1.5 hours for 350 MB (see preview above) which is quite fast compared to my connection I had two years ago.

I'm glad that using highest bangwidth for upload (ca.70 KB/s) has no effect on surfing.
Download speed ca.700 KB/s.

If I can upload 150 Mb in less than 2 hours, it's gone well. That's a pain in the ass, but much (MUCH) better than the dial-up I had. The real problem with a satellite connection is the bandwidth limit. If you have other demands on your bandwidth, there's simply not much left for the fun stuff.
It still beats the shit out of dial-up!!

I notice my download speed will start going up to between 200 and 300 kb/sec at night too. I'm in a medium sized college town in the US upper Midwest and have a cable connection. The cable company here is not very good, but it's the only real option for a fast connection in this town. The local DSL service sucks even worse. The speed seems to start to increase around 6:00 PM US central time.
