Sexy is a Brazilian magazine dedicated to the male audience. It is published monthly and is published by Editora Rickdan Ltda., Headquartered in the city of São Paulo. It is the main competitor of Playboy magazine in Brazil, and has had women on its pages such as Anamara Barreira, Andressa Urach, Carol Dias, Viviane Araújo, Nana Gouvêa, Núbia Ólliver, Cristina Mortágua and Geisy Arruda.
Mari Alexandre is the record holder for sales and magazine covers, there were 7 essays in total and more than 410 thousand copies sold.
In 1992, Interview magazine editor Michael Koellreutter, realizing that his interviewees had no problem talking about sex, launched Sexy Interview as a supplement to the magazine. The first version, without naked essays, was published by Art Editores (Editora Abril's subsidiary responsible for Interview) and had actress Carolina Ferraz on the cover. The magazine was quarterly, and was only reduced to Sexy in the fourth edition the following year, with the model Patrícia Machado (ex of Ayrton Senna) on the cover. Still, many referred to the magazine as "Sexy Interview". The first editor was Palmério Dória, who remained in the position until 1999 and remembered the magazine's interviews in his book Evasão de Privacy (2001).
In 1995, two publishers leaving Abril, Ângelo Rossi and Ana Fadigas, plus businessman Otávio Mesquita, bought Sexy to be one of the first titles of their new publisher, Fractal. In 1999, Rossi left Fractal taking Sexy to his new publisher, Rickdan, which still publishes the magazine.
In the past it was identified as a more explicit and daring magazine than its main competitor, this means the less prudish view of the female body, with greater visualization of its genitalia. However, in 2004, under the direction of editor Edson Aran, it underwent a reformulation, adopting a style more similar to that of Playboy, becoming more modest, which generated discontent among its audience. The change, however, resulted in the presence of great stars who previously did not imagine they could pose for the magazine, such as Cissa Guimarães, Marisol Ribeiro, Carla Regina and Scheila Carvalho. The growth presented, made Playboy to call Aran to be its new editor of director in 2006, being replaced by the journalist Roberto Sadovski, that finished the visual and editorial change of the magazine.
The current editor is Henrique Rossi, son of Angelo.
