der wandermönch rasputin, der in sibirien als wunderheiler tätig ist, wird von der zarin nach st. petersburg gerufen um den kranken zarewitsch zu heilen. als begleitung dient ihm dabei die gräfin golowina, die mehrmals gelegenheit hat eine weitere von rasputins eigenschaften zu untersuchen: seine fähigkeit frauen zu befriedigen. in st. petersburg angekommen schafft es rasputin den zarewitsch zu heilen und steigt mächtig in der gunst der zarin, was ihm zugleich einige mächtige feinde schafft, die nun ein attentat auf sein leben planen...
