Description: Russell Albion "Russ" Meyer is an American director, screenwriter, cinematographer, producer, actor, and photographer.
His first feature film, The Immoral Mr. Teas (1959), brought in over a million dollars at the box office. This allowed Ras to become one of the first independent filmmakers in history. In subsequent years, realizing his creative ideas, Ras managed to create a whole cinematic universe full of genuine eroticism, strong feelings, subtle irony, sharp social criticism and other clichés, as well as real, 100% madness.
The peaks of his work are considered to be the tapes "Pee, pee them, pussy!" (eng. Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!) as well as "Psycho on a mopedo" or "Mad motorcyclists" (eng. Motor Psycho). Meyer elevated the sexploitation genre to a pedestal, setting such a high standard of quality that to date, none of the directors of this kind of cinema, with the possible exception of Quentin Tarantino, has come close to his best works in terms of the level of execution and the depth of study of both the plot and characters.
Meyer's peculiar cinematic language hinders the perception of his work in Russia. For popular cinema, he is too old, and for arthouse, in our understanding, he simply has too big boobs. At the same time, his films are not just of high quality. Being a real innovator of the genre, the director collects epic canvases from the most ordinary, banal to the point of yawning and vulgar plots, and only the already mentioned beautiful breasts, thin waists and simple, as it is true, faces of his heroines prevent the majority of Russian fans from penetrating into this special world " intellectual cinema.
Since the late 60s, Meyer's constant collaborator has become the widely known American film critic Roger Ebert. He wrote scripts for three films, including Beyond the Valley of the Dolls.
Russ Meyer is in many cases both a director and cameraman of his paintings, while he practically did not use a "moving camera" in principle, shooting from static points and achieving the effect of movement using
