RS news :

WHAT IS THIS ??

"The Security Lock is inactive. With the activation you protect your files, your password and email address, as well as your RapidPoints against unauthorized Account access. Click the Lock to complete this action. Help
The Security Lock is active. In order to move, and/or delete your files, changing your password and email address, or converting RapidPoints, unlock the Account by one click on the Lock

Just found this on the original site, today at 2.45 pm... what is the point ?

If someone steal your login details he can't change your password, delete files or convert your rapid points.

I think it's a great advance in the process of making it harder for phishers.

Thumbs up, Rapidshare! Smile

Well, it's just like before. The only difference is that they can't change anything, not without the access code. You still have to be careful!

From rapidshare.com

...When the RapidShare-Security Lock is activated, the menu items "Settings" and "Convert RapidPoints" are locked and files can no longer be moved or deleted. All other functions remain available...

...the system automatically sends an email to the email address provided by you, containing the access code. Please keep this access code save. You will need this code again when accessing the above mentioned feature the next time...

In a sense, you now have the possibility to have two passwords for your account: one for downloading files, and another for administration.

It's a nice idea, a response to the massive account stealing that has been going on.

Personally, not something I had a need for, as I have always took care not to be phished out of my account details. That goes for Rapidshare and anything else.

Unfortunately, it's plain carelessness that leads to people being stolen their accounts... I don't know if those careless people will pay much attention to this detail...

I'm sure some of it isn't due to phishing. If you use the same email address you use for RS elsewhere, then that's half the login for someone. And no matter how many times you tell some people, they still use simplistic passwords that can be hacked in seconds.

It is a bit of a pain. Every time you want to "TrafficShare Download" a file you have to turn off the lock.
Meaning you have to look up the password, remove the lock, tag the file (TrafficShare Download), request the lock feature, get an email with the new password, lock your account.
